Dec 3-7: 2nd Test: Australia v England at the Adelaide Oval

Our big problem is none of our batsmen look likely to go on to a 100 let alone a big 100 which the English have been doing. Only Hussey and Haddin can bat with any confidence and even Hussey has needed chances to get away.

Katich and Watson have shown glimpses. You'd think if one more shows form, they could actually do well, but then Hussey is due a low score, so really it needs to be two.

Katich struggling with an injury now, I'd like to give Australia my usual team name of Injury Brigade. Batsmen got us into this mess now they have to get us out of it on a much trickier deck.

Unbelievable to see Australia play this bad at home also. Am I dreaming or what? They have plunged to unbelievable depths of lows. If England dont win this Ashes, it would be a miracle.:yes

Only took 500 runs but now the bowlers are bowling to a simple bowling plan as the commentators mentioned. Too bad it took 500 runs to realise this.

England should bat another 30 overs, push the lead over 300 or soo and send the aussies to bat!
If they manage to get a wicket or two, it will put england in a huge advantage!

This series could very well end up 4-0 England if Australia don't pull up their socks.

Their bowling has looked so toothless. Half their lineup is either injured (Katich, Clarke, Bollinger) or woefully out of form (North, Johnson). Ponting hasn't clicked when it matters. Doherty is looking out of place at Test level. The whole bowling attack seems to be bowling without a plan, or bowling with really bad ones, which puts further doubts over Ponting's captaincy.

With Doherty's ineffectiveness, and Bollinger seemingly struggling through his spells, all Ponting has left is Siddle and Harris who haven't bowled too badly.

This is what Australia gets for not dropping North and Johnson sooner, and for dropping Hauritz for an untested spinner. KP has scored 46 runs off 54 balls he's faced from Doherty. So much for that experiment.

And then the batting. Clarke does not look like he should be playing. He's struggling. North has been there wayy too long, you just feel he's being played because he's a second spinner. 2 holes in the batting lineup, and with Ponting failing so far, that's 3 wickets for not many to begin with. Watson and Katich aren't Hayden/Langer, and will be prone to occasionally failing with Anderson in the form he's in. Hussey and Haddin have done quite well and are the reason Aus are still fighting.

It's not even clear what Aus can do to turn this around. A start might be dropping Doherty and North and bringing in Haurtiz and a new batsman like Khawaja/Ferguson or even Smith.

Next step might be dropping Bollinger and Clarke, who don't seem fit enough, and bring in Hilfenhaus and another batsman.

Or they could just stick with the current squad and hope things come together.

Lead up to 303. KP now has 57 runs from 58 balls against Doherty.

I reckon Aus should drop Doherty and just play and extra seamer at Perth. North can do any spin bowling they need.
I don't agree that England will win 4-0 but psychologically they are doing massive damage to the Aussies at the moment.

You get up in the middle of the night to watch the cricket...and it rains.

ETA well I was going to go back to bed but Sky are showing England humping Australia from back in 1997.

Even rain can't save the Aussies now. KP back in nick = nail in the coffin for the series

Well I'm going back to bed. I reckon Aus can still draw this game even without lots of rain. Pitch is very flat and they've only failed once in the three innings they've had.

England should just declare now while it's raining. Save some time.

Or do they want a lead of 350 and/or Bell to get a 50?

The whole bowling attack seems to be bowling without a plan, or bowling with really bad ones, which puts further doubts over Ponting's captaincy.
It does look that way on the surface, but in a team with professional support staff, the idea that the captain does all the planning is a bit far fetched. He's responsible for the execution of a plan, but if the plans themselves are terrible or flimsy, then a substantial responsibility must fall on the coaching staff.
