Domestic cricket 06/07 in Australia

Who ends up as number 2 spinner, you mean. MacGill didn't get 700 first class wickets by playing for Australia :p

Good point :) Still the number 2 spinner will be getting a fair bit of game time this season. Only problem will be when the Tri Series starts which would mean no more Casson or Hauritz.

No I'm saying MacGill won't be playing for Australia hence he will go back into the NSW squad. But I'm sure Casson will make it sometime in the near future and Hauritz has already played for Australia.

Yep, although thinking about it we could definitely play 2 spinners on a few pitches in Aus and Casson/Hauritz are both handy with the bat so we don't use too much in the batting department.

After the test matches, and during Perth.
The WACA has gotten easier in recent years, to the point that I don't think one can discount the possibility of two spinners, especially if Watson is playing well.

Only if Watson is playing well we would play 2 spinners. But you'd have to give a guy like Clark a go at the WACA. Surely? Test average of 18.

Yeah, you're still assuming the WACA to be a somewhat seaming wicket. We saw 'spin twins' at the MCG, Adelaide and Bellerive last year. Not traditionally regarded as spinners' havens and if the WACA is any easier to bat on this year (making it more like Adelaide), it might prove hubris to omit MacGill.

Last year we saw Symonds and Watson play with consideration given almost entirely to batting ability; perhaps rightly so, with 4 specialist bowlers, their role need not be major. However, batting form wasn't exactly prosperous. Watson need only be fit to play.

Clark was behind the 8 ball after the triseries. He'll be a lot further off with six weeks out, especially if his rival bowlers fire.

Inetesting to see if MacGill remains the #2 spinner for the Aussies though. Didn't he get a major setback from "Boot Camp"? Cullen could be the #2 spinner, and if he is, he probably wont play much, the selectors might leave it to Warne to carry the spinners workload, leaving it a three man pace attack, and making a cause for Symonds to play.

I dont think the setback was major. I would hate to think a guy with a first class average of 40 would be our no. 2 spinner.

Probably a bit too soon for Cullen, he could use another season in domestic and hopefully his average comes down.

Cullen is always going to have a high first class bowling average. Adelaide ain't exactly the best place for an off spinner to ply his trade.

Then that just defeats the purpose of playing him in the first place.

You can't afford to think "oh just because the pitch doesnt spin much"

If thats the case, play someone who is GOING to get results.

The Domestic one day series will now be called the Ford Ranger One Day Cup and a little of topic but the One Day Tri-series between Australia, England and New Zealand will proberly be called the Commonwealth Bank One Day Cup.
