^^^Don't need four pacemen AND Ervine.
At the WACA? Ervine is in there mainly as a batsman with Voges and North bowling part time finger spin!

Hodge opening? I think Jewell would open, he has before, or even Moss although I doubt it in FC. Otherwise it looks pretty good. Or there could be aspecialist opener in there I don't know about.
Can't have Jewell opening with Mash. Those 2 guys are good ordinary players. Gritty, get a few runs out of them, but I think we just need a bit more talent at the top, otherwise we could really be exposed.

Mash is a bit inexperienced, but is still young and definitely has a lot of potential. He should have come away with at least one century last season and was in position for a couple others. Likewise, I think Jewell's 'grittiness' as you say would be helpful in protecting the middle from being exposed. I'd like to see how they go before writing them off.

In the one dayers, I'd have Hussey open all the way.

Cricket Australia Cup kicked off a few days ago with SA v Qld. Ended up a draw with Bailey impressing with 5 wickets in the 1st inns and and 3 in the 2nd. Le Loux did good in 2nd inns almost bowling Qld to a win but Bailey this time saved SA with the bat.

Jewell is basically a flat track bully. Gets away with alot just because he is a big man and has arms like tree trunks. So against real quality opposition bowling, i.e Bracken, Bichel, Kaspa, Dizzy, I wouldnt feel too great about him making a big innings.

Nah, maybe not always a good innings, but he can stand his ground for good periods. I do see what you mean, though.

For the bloke who said Moss was too old and shouldnt be in the team, he scored 110 and took 3-11 in his Premier Cricket match yesterday.

Wow, Have you looked at Bichel and Bevan's performances in the domestic competition? Did they make the Australia team? No. 110 and 3-11 bigdeal, Averaging 100 throughout the season and taken 50 odd wickets and 500 runs is alot better than that.

Add to that Moss performance was in some grade cricket. If we're going by that may as well put Bollinger opening bowling, Casson and Hauritz opening batsmen and Lambert star all rounder.

Has nothing to do with the Australian team. Has to do with the Victorian team, because the bloke said he is too old for the Victorian team.

You fool.

What on earth are you on about? I said he was too old to make the Australian team, I don't give a stuff about old players playing for their State.

The difference is they are actually old.

He is 31, that's under a year away from Stuart Clark, our supposed "youngster."

Warne hardly ever plays one dayers, it's no surprise that he's dropping them. Last year he played twice to bring his Vic career up to a veteran's 30 matches.
He rarely plays state cricket at all, surprised to see him deciding to play this pura cup match, he usually takes a break early on to be fitter, but it will be good to see him play for the boys. He doesn't play One Day Cricket because he needs to limit his schedule, he just captained Hampshire all year in a much more hectic schedule than for Victoria, but he said he'll play if there are injuries or international selections that leave Whitey out of the team and needing a spinner.

An interesting idea, would be good theoretically but Moss and Klinger are great openers, and throwing someone out of their element is not always easy.

The selectors have never said Clark was making their team any less old, they brought him in because he was a McGrath clone. Our youngsters are Johnson, Tait, Cullen and Clarke.

But he is regarded as a "youngster," by whoever it may be, I never said the selectors said so, and made his debut as a 30 year old, but you say Moss is too old.

he isn't a youngster? what are you on about. He got in the TEAM because MCGRATH was INJURED ( unable to play in cricket matches ) and CLARK (stuart) is a playing that works on LINE AND LENGTH rather than RAW PACE.

I don't know where the hell you got this youngster crap from

Right actually old? so 3-11 and 110 at 31 is better than averaging 100 at 37? If your saying age is irelevant then you've contricted your whole arguement. How old is too old? Hayden is 36 and playing, Mcgrath 36, Warne 36 but 37 is "actually old"?
