Draft time: World Cup history - ALL FINISHED!!

I know his average is a bit mis-leading but for a batsman coming at 7-8 average doesn't matter, but quick 20's-30's to boost up the total.
Yeah, he is a very good ODI player. As I said, would have picked him had I got a decent no. 3.

Ha ha, it is fun isn't it? I also love to do simming and stuff. Glad Ganguly performed. How were Akhtar-Bond doing? :D

That's interesting - Bond ripped through my top order in one of the games, and Akhtar in of the others. The third - it was a question of containment as I batted first and finished on 220-4 :lol The game was over by your 30th over :p

Ha ha, the third one is a typical CrickSim thing really where a team fails to accelerate in the end and the chasing teams wins in a hurry. Loving that!

Hey, can I asked how you posted the scorecards? Since I'm using Windows 7, I run cricksim on DosBox. Can't copy and paste :noway

There will be an option called 'compatibility files' on the top of the screen. Click on that and you will see the files named 'COMM' for commentary and 'SCORE' for the scorecard. Select all and put it in code tags here and post.

Papa Smurf, maybe you should check out the leagues section, lots of cricket simming going on there :)

Hmm, running a sim now, and will try it :thumbs

Hey Chewie, who decides the averages for the players in the different leagues?

My World Cup XI:

1.Rameez Raja (Runs:349 Avg:58.16)
2.Stephen Fleming (Runs:1075 Avg:35.83)
3.Mahela Jayawardene (Runs:671 Avg:33.55)
4.Alec Stewart (Runs:520 Avg:32.50)
5.Klaas-Jan van Noortwijk (Runs:322 Avg:46)
6.Lance Klusener (Runs:372 Avg:124 Wkt:22 Avg: 22.13)
7.Andy Bichel (Runs:117 Avg:117 Wkt: 16 Avg:12.31)
8.M Odumbe (Runs:452 Avg:30.13 Wkt:18 Avg:31.5)
9.Anil Kumble (Wkt:31 Avg:22.83 ER:4.03)
10.Andy Roberts (Wkt:26 Avg:21.23 ER:3.24)
11.Glenn Mcgrath (Wkt:71 Avg:18.19 ER:3.96)

Bichel's a great pick - was really thinking hard about him, but if I were you I think batting him at #7 is a bit optimistic. He played only 3 innings in his WC career, and they were at either 9 or 10. Maurice Odumbe is getting shafted - give Maurice some love and get him up at #6. Klusener's best contributions came at #7 or #8 anyway. That's what I'd do.

Hey Chewie, who decides the averages for the players in the different leagues?
It is the league managers. As I said earlier, for my league I set a range of averages and then according to the current form, talent, etc. I give them appropriate averages.

Hey Chewie, who decides the averages for the players in the different leagues?

The manager decides them.

Basically, the manager will start a thread, people will decide to take a team, they will choose their players through a draft or auction to make a 18 person squad, the manager will give those players averages based on what he thinks of them, and matches are simmed to find who has the best team.

You got a point there, i guess i was not showing enough confidence on him because he was an associate player :p. But surely i think those 3 positions are flexible.

Craig McDermott

mcdermott.jpg

Craig McDermott was the spearhead of the Aussie attack in both 1987 and 1992 - a right arm, red haired, genuinely quick fast bowler. There are other Aussie bowlers with better averages that I could have picked here, but I don't think any played as important a role in the team, nor did they play in multiple World Cups like McDermott did.

He's another of those unsung heroes of 1987 where he was brilliant, leading the wicket taking tally for the tournament with 18. Was Man of the Match in the 1987 Semi-Final v Pakistan, when Pakistan were still in with a shot of chasing down Australia's 267, but McDermott made the crucial breakthroughs to silence the Pakistan hopes, finishing with 5/44. In 1992 he wasn't quite so explosive, but he made up for it with consistency, only once conceding more than 40 runs in the entire tournament. He briefly appeared in the 1996 WC too, but only bowled 3 overs in 1996 before succumbing to a calf injury in the opening match.

McDermott was also an EXCELLENT outfielder. Quick to the ball, sure hands and a very strong and dangerous throwing arm. "A tremendous athlete" as Bill Lawry often said. Could swing lustily with the bat too, and was even used at #4 as a pinch hitter in the 1987 final where he made 14 off 8 balls trying to raise the Aussie run rate in the middle overs. That's the highest score he ever made in a World Cup (his WC batting average is 3.9), but I just thought it was interesting to mention.

World Cup stats:
Matches: 17
Wickets: 27
Average: 22.18
Economy: 4.02
BB: 5/44 (10) v Pakistan, 1987.

1 David Boon
2 Neil Johnson
3 Brian Lara
4 Aravinda de Silva
5 Mohammad Azharuddin (c)
6 Niall O'Brien (wk)
7 Jonty Rhodes
8 Sir Ian Botham
9 Abdul Qadir
10 Craig McDermott
11 Geoff Allott

So there you have it - the final XI. Neil Johnson was very important to give me that genuine all-rounder that I could balance the team around. There are a few 'sexy' names in there, but mostly I've picked guys who aren't the big stars. I'm quite happy with it actually. There are only a couple of weaker players in there, and I think I've hidden them pretty well.

Yeah, I agree with this Mohit. With Klusner coming in at #7, that is a strong XI. Good job :thumbs

Ahh ok, I understand now. One more question - who picks the starting XI for each match - the owner or the manager?

I really, really like that XI Jason :thumbs Especially the Boon pick - who can forget that incredible ton against the Kiwis in 92 opener, after most of the top order had faltered early. The game was lost for the Aussie's after he got run-out.
