Pura Cup ? Game 3
Tasmania Tigers Vs Victorian Bushrangers
Bellerive Oval, Hobart
21st November 2006

It has been two hours since the down poor forced the Tigers and Bushrangers from the field but some good quick work from the groundsman means that the teams and umpires have made there way out to the centre for play to resume with 4 hours of play to come. The Victorians will need to claim 5 wickets in this timeframe to secure a win away from home.

Some last minute advice for me courtesy of the skipper went straight through one ear and out the other. Really who does this so called ?state captain? think he is giving advice to a pace bowler when he bowls off 3 steps and simply rolls the arm over for half of the innings.

The run out of Bevan was definitely a plus for us as he was in some of the best form I have seen him in since being dropped from the Australian one day team all those years ago. Hopefully we can capture the last 4 wickets with time to spare but it wont be easy.

After conceding 3 boundaries in a row Cameron White gave me the flicks and went in search of a different bowling option to try and finish off the Tasmanians.

With Clingeleffer (53) losing his castle to Wise in the over after Slatter was removed from the attack it looked to just be a matter of time until the Bushrangers cleaned up the tail and walked away from Bellerive Oval with a win. However the home side through Wright and Doherty held on for dear life.

Clingeleffer finally lost his castle to Wise to the
celebration of the Bushranger slips cordon in the background

A gutsy 35 from the off spinner Doherty proved priceless for every one of the 73 balls that he faced eat up a little bit more time. That made it 8/277 and the game still in the balance as far as a win or draw goes.

Xavier Doherty played a major part in the salvage mission

No other wickets have fallen since and now with Wright still at the crease with Hilfenhaus and a small lead to the Tasmanians with just 15 minutes remaining the draw is looking better then ever. Who knows what the last 3 quarters of an hour will have as Slatter is eventually recalled to the attack after the front line bowlers are exhausted.

Tasmania Tigers 8/332
5:14pm ? Day 4

109 overs

Wright 39(123)*
Hilfenhaus 35(62)*

Lewis 0/40
Harwood 2/89
Wise 1/39
Slatter 1/58
White 1/28
Moss 2/58
Hodge 0/12

Tasmanian Tiger lead by 15 runs

Expensive stuff from Slatter. I like the occasional bit of humour here and there.

Great Work!

The time has come for Cameron White to have one final roll of the dice at Bellerive Oval. With the pace line-up tiring the skipper has decided not to give any of them the ball and has gone for the 16 year old Slatter to take whatever opportunity there is left. This move by Cameron White is either a masterpiece of captaincy or a lack of any other option with just three quarters of an hour remaining.

At the top of my run I still have no idea whether Cameron White thinks im the best man for the job now or im the last resort after he has mixed his overs up. I gues it wont really matter if I can claim these final two wickets so the top order can get in quick and make the runs.

With one more wicket still to claim Allan Wise was brought into the attack by the skipper and got the edge within a few balls only to see it fly through slips and to the boundary. A field change by White has occurred because of the fact that the Tasmanians scoring runs now is like a diet to a fat man. It just isn?t worth trying.

It has taken Slatter just 7 balls to clean up the Tasmanian tail, which his other teammates failed to do. However the drinks still aren?t on ice as the top order has just 19 minutes to get the remaining 21 runs to win. It should be an easy task with 10 wickets to get just 21 but you never know in this game and im sure the Tasmanians wont be in any hurry between overs.

Victorian Bushrangers require 21 runs to win
