Pura Cup ? Game 3
Tasmania Tigers Vs Victorian Bushrangers
Bellerive Oval, Hobart
21st November 2006

21 is never usually the total that will have all 11 players watching on the balcony without blinking but with what had trickled down to 14 minutes left in the match before a ball had been bowled in the run chase the thought on everyone?s mind was ?Surely we cant draw now after so much hard work?

Even the fans are on there feet waiting for the outcome of this on

As Jason Arnberger and Michael Klinger set out to the middle we al gave them plenty of encouragement and enough pats on the back to last 2 lifetimes. We were more nervous then they were going out to the middle. I have always wanted to hit the winnings runs in a pressure situation but that wont be today.

Arnberger and Klinger on a mission

The drama that we thought was going to happen happened straight away with Jason making his way back to the pavilion at 1/0. You could smell the tension in the dressing rooms when Jon Moss departed for 9 after being caught in the deep. All of a sudden the win doesn?t look as easy as we thought it would be once we bowled out the locals.

The Cheeseberger gets out at 1/0

Some master stroke play from Brad Hodge in a classic 9 not out proved that he still belongs with a baggy green on his head and that was all we needed to sneak home with just 3 balls to play in the match.

Hodgey in fantastic driving form

However the celebrations will be brief as we get back on a flight home to play New South Wales in the morning in a poorly fixture ING Cup game at the G. A few of our blokes will be rested after today?s win so there is still plenty to play for when the sun comes up in the morning.

Cameron White was named man of the match later on which really states how well he has played and led this season so far.

Victorian Bushrangers win by 8 wickets

Friday ? Hobart To Melbourne
24th November 2006
9:00pm

Just 3 hours after stump our plane has departed the state of inbreds (or so I have heard) and we go back to Melbourne for tomorrows match against New South Wales. It wont be easy rocking up to the MCG after 4 days of intense cricket that just sore us sneak home. The team for tomorrow?s game is as follows.

It?s a good thing the flight from Hobart to Melbourne isn?t a long one or the boys might be in real trouble with all kinds of soreness but a few ice baths after the match tonight will hopefully help us follow up on our good form tomorrow. The introduction of Lloyd Mash to the team will also be interesting to watch, as the kid is a promising addition to the squad.

I still call Melbourne home

The plane trip home was pretty uneventful as most of the boys caught up on some sleep they had lost from spending nights thinking about the result of a tough match. Thankfully tomorrows match is a day night game which is rare for domestic cricket but it gives us a few more recovery hours.

ING Cup ? Game 3
Victorian Bushrangers Vs New South Wales Blues
The MCG, Melbourne
25th November 2006

The crowd has flocked to the MCG and bay 13 especially to spend there Saturday watching the Victorian Bushrangers who are playing better cricket by the day and the New South Wales Blues who?s season could be in real trouble if they don?t walk away with points today. The 2:30pm start for this day night match is a much-anticipated time but first lets have a look at the pitch.

Bay 13 is filling up at The G

The Pitch Report

It looks like an even pitch down in the centre with something in it for both batsman and bowlers. However you would still think the winning captain would elect to bat and put there runs on the board ready for a good chase tonight. Predicting a score is tricky on a pitch like this but as usual anything over 250 and its game on.

The Weather Report

Fine, Sunny ? 25
The weather is perfect for cricket down here which will provide comfortable heat for the bowlers today and a touch cooler under lights tonight. All in all the weather won?t have any impact on the match, which is always good to see.

The Coin Toss

Nicholson calls tails and loses the toss

Cameron White ? ?We?re going to have a bat. It?s great weather out here and hopefully we can carry on from some good cricket in Hobart. We?ve just arrived home last night after playing yesterday and a few changes are inevitable playing so soon but it?s always good to have a few new faces in the dressing rooms.?

Matthew Nicholson ? ?Being given the captaincy is a great honour and as a bowler losing the toss wont matter to much. Hopefully we can keep ther runs down out here and all goes well in the run chase. We really do need a win out of today and we?ve got our best side available to do that.?

The Teams

The Victorians have been forced to make a change from the side named as Shane Harwood failed to get out of bed this morning with general soreness, which means that Dirk Nannes will make his debut along with Lloyd Mash. Nick Jewell also returns to the side as Jon Moss is rested. The real question is do the Bushrangers have a side capable of winning today with so much inexperience.

The Blues are really struggling this season unexpectedly and are in desperate need of a win. They will come out hard and with the bowling strength fielding first might not be the worst thing for them if they can get 2 or 3 for not many early on.

The Victorians cant catch a break at the moment as young gun Lloyd Mash who was set to make his debut today managed to pull his hamstring off the bone in the teams warm up. The Bushrangers physio has confirmed the injury and at first Mash had thoughts of batting when his captain won the toss but was told that this is not possible.

The Victorian physio was available for comment and had this to say ?Lloyd is obviously shattered as he was set to debut here today. Unfortunately in fielding practice it just went twang and he?s looking at a substantial amount of time on the sidelines now. That?s the way it goes sometimes but we?ll be doing all we can to get him back before the end of the season.?

Note: Lloyd Mash may not have been injured and this is just an excuse as his fsh file has an async error.

Michael Klinger and new opening batsman Nick Jewell who has been forced into the role with the absence of Lloyd Mash kicked it off like a dead lepers head. The stand in New South Wales skipper Matty Nicholson copped most of the early fire as the opening stand went past 50. The fist wicket fell at 1/81 when Mick Klinger lobbed one back to the bowler and trudged off.

Nick Jewell has been working hard in the nets ever
since being named in the side

Nick Jewell registered 50 grabbing his opportunity to playa game with both hands but fell a handful of balls later without adding any more runs to his total and bringing in the score to 2/123. Meanwhile Rummo was living up a rare opportunity of his own. Not being a bloke in the front of the selectors minds it?s important for Rummo to cash in when he can but unfortunately got himself out bowled by part timer Dom Thornely to make it 3/123.

Rummo doesn't get many chances so he needs to make the most of them

I now had he pads on waiting for my turn to have a dig but was entertained by a Hodge and Hussey partnership in the mean time. A short and sweet partnership came to an end at 4/159 when Hus was left for dead and found himself run out for 17. It looks like it?s my turn to step back on to the MCG for a dig.

Victorian Bushrangers 4/159
Run Rate 5.3

30 overs

Hodge 18(13)*
Hussey 17(15)

Nicholson 0/63
Bollinger 0/32
Bradstreet 1/11
Thornely 1/21
Bird 1/30

we've taught you well mick :)

How well did I pick that!

Good start for Victoria! They are batting nicely.

EDIT: Actually they are batting pretty crap to be honest.
