ING Cup ? Game 4
Victorian Bushrangers Vs New South Wales Blues

A nod in the direct of Nathan Pilon from me just to let him know that slog time begins now. It?s always good fun to have a bit of fun after doing the hard work of getting to the final 5 overs and with 4 wickets in hand we can afford to go hell for leather at these next 30 balls.
What follows next for me needs to make up for slow going early in my innings. My thinking was that it didn?t matter if I got tied down a bit as long as I made up for it in the closing overs otherwise if I slowed the scoring rate and got out I wasn?t helping the team in the slightest.
A mixture of class and ass sore my score move along and more importantly the teams total as Nath Pilon followed my example and the run rate lifted. Unfortunately all innings come to an end as did mine to part time bowler an Blues opening batsman Greg Mail as I got the toe of the willow on a lofted straight drive attempt to be caught and bowled for 33.
An unbeaten 23 from Nathan Pilon along with 8 from Allan Wise gets us to a pretty good score of 262 off 50 overs that will make an interesting chase when we come back under lights at the MCG.
New South Wales Blues require 263 runs to win at 5.26 an over
Looks like a pretty innocuous wicket to me with low bounce as its only hazard (am I correct?); Slatter again proves his all-round worth (even if he was a little slow early on). Your score is just above par (par being 250).

It?s going to be Mail and Phelps to kick off the New South Wales innings. A good start is obviously crucial for both teams as the game hangs in the balance with an interesting chase ahead.
The start went to the visitors as the opening partnership took the score past 50 in good time and didn?t look back. Allan Wise and Gerard Denton were promoted to taking the new ball but it was a decision that took no affect on the match as the opening stand then went past 100.
Mail and Phelps lead the Blues with a massive opening stand
The skipper Cameron White and Brad Hodge of all people chipped in for the double breakthrough as Mail (53) and Phelps (76) found themselves back in the shed at 2/130. Half way through the run chase the match is still up for grabs but with the Blues in favour still with 8 wickets remaining as the skipper turns to Slatter and says ?Have a bowl mate? with two new batsman at the crease.
New South Wales Blues 2/136

A good bowling change by Whitey if I do say so myself as the run rate is just holding back a bit now with two new batsman at the crease after the double breakthrough. It seems as though the match is now back to square one and the moment can go either way with another partnership or another quick breakthrough. Whitey wanted to make sure I was clear on what I had to do when he told me ?I just want you to keep the runs down at the moment. It?s more then likely I will need to you bowl at the death but I cant do that if there isn?t anymore runs to protect at the end.?
It?s all about holding off the runs at the moment so I have set a field that isn?t overly defensive but will allow me to cover myself if I decide to pitch it up.
The pressure is building for Lambert and Richards as Slatter and White work in a partnership to keep the run rate down as a change is made at the other end and Gerard Denton is brought back into the attack with 20 overs remaining.
Cammo White?s intentions where made clear when he then told me to have a breather from bowling for a while as I will be required for the final few overs. It?s now up to Dirk Nannes and Gerard Denton to take over the restraining job.
New South Wales Blues 2/161
Run Rate ? 4.6
Projected Total - 230
35 overs

The Richards and Lambert partnership is proving very hard to remove for the Victorians Denton was unable to capture a wicket in his 10 overs. The New South Welshman looked to push the ball around and turn over the strike.
With Wise left with 2 overs and Nannes with 1 the skipper turns to me and says ?Now?s when I need ya Slats, your on next over.? It is going to be a very interesting final 30 balls as the Blues batsman now need to go hell for leather and score at 10 an over to get over the line and most importantly get off the bottom of the ING Cup standings after 4 games.
New South Wales Blues 2/212
Run Rate ? 4.71
Projected Total ? 235

Yes I am. Batting, bowling and fielding. The only thing I do right-handed is using scissors. Because at school they only had right-handed scissors, so I had no choice. Using scissors with my left hand feels wierd.

The result of this match isn?t decided yet but it definitely favors us. Some more tight bowling from me will see us get over the line and leave the Blues in the ING standings cellar and their season almost over.
Cameron?s last words before I delivery the final nail into the NSW coffin were ?Nothing stupid here Slats just get us over the line. We?re on top here and we want it to stay that way? to which I replied ?Camo, Camo, Camo when have I ever done anything stupid?????..And then he shook his head walked off. Prick.
It was Allan Wise keeping it clean at the other end cleaning up Corey Richards for 44 when he hit a catch to Brad Hodge at mid wicket which means that there is going to need to be one hell of an air display off my last over for the Blues to walk away with points today.
New South Wales Blues require 25 runs to win from 6 balls
