ING Cup ? Game 4
Victorian Bushrangers Vs New South Wales Blues
The MCG, Melbourne
25th November 2006

There?s only one thought that goes through your head when you step up to the mark to bowl the last over of a one day match and that thought is ?just don?t get hit for 6?.

Wrapping up the win for your side is always a great feeling and today is no different. The boys are all very happy to have increased the record to 3 ? 1 and stand tall in the ING Cup Standings.

There aren?t to many better feelings then winning a game of cricket but the one thing that does give it a shake is being named man of the match and tonight that honour is mine. A few bucks under the table and a radio interview will be my reward within the next couple of days. Hopefully my one day form can be reflected when we take on the Blues again in the longer form of the game in 8 days time back at The MCG.

Victorian Bushrangers win by 17 runs

great bowling mate well done.
just to remind you in a couple overs you ahve only posted 6 balls even wih a no ball :p
No big deal but just a little thing.
great win :)

Good to see Slatter with bowl again, but he still needs to bat with more confidence and should score more runs.

Yeah Trev the no ball thing was just me being slack but i will change that in the future. I would agree ashu that cofidence isn't at an all time high with the willow mainly for the reason of getting out for a low score. Cheers

Just getting out of bed this morning was a challenge after 5 days straight of competitive cricket. On the plus side we won both of those games and we now have a 3 day break before playing on the 29th once again against the Blues but this time in a Pura Cup mach that will see us regain some key players.

My real home the day after a game

Another plus is being named man of the match and for my hard work yesterday I am being rewarded with a radio interview on SEN 1116am this afternoon which will hopefully go well as it usually does.

Listen into Slats at 4:30pm today on SEN 1116am

Thankfully we don?t need to go near a plane for our next match but the one I am really looking forward to is our tour match against New Zealand on the 7th of December which gives the kiwis some much needed practice before the VB series kicks off in the start of the one day games in the Australian summer. It also offers us first class players the chance to prove ourselves to the selectors and show the world what we can do the boys definitely wont be using it as a hit and giggle game.

Hopefully Slats chin music can put Flemo on his ass!

Anthony Hudson and David Schwarz are on a show called The Run Home at ths time between 4 ? 7 and it just so happens that they are interested in chatting to me.

Hudson: G?day Slats how did you pull up from yesterday?s game

Slatter: Sorry Hudo did you say man of the match

Hudson: (laughs) No Slats I just asked how you were.

Slatter: Oh (pause) well im not to bad mate thanks for asking

Schwarz: Speaking of men of the match Slats how did it fell to pick up your first.

Slatter: Yeah it?s obviously a great feeling to get a man of the match award in any game and it was definitely an unexpected one.

Hudson: I guess you don?t expect to pick up 3 wickets in the las over of every match you play do you Slats.

Slatter: Nah well that?s right. I mean I am a top quality bowler and I maybe I would expect 1 or 2 wickets but 3 was definitely a surprise.

Schwarz: You sure are Slats but tell me what age did you start playing cricket because you have come out of nowhere to be playing for the Bushrangers this season.

Slatter: Yeah well it wasn?t to long ago actually. I started playing with my mate?s back in under 14?s and it?s just progressed very quickly from there.

Hudson: Amazing stuff but what where you doing in those early years before cricket. Did you have any other sports you were interested in.

Slatter: Well my Aussie rules footy career went down the gurgler at a very early age so I took up basketball and tennis, which I wasn?t to bad at but after I started cricket I always knew that was what I wanted to do.

Hudson: Well maybe you should have taken up soccer with the way the Socceroos are going at the moment and who knows maybe you could have been in Germany now.

Slatter: Yeah well I don?t know about that but I do have a few mates in the Socceroos team. Blokes like Harry and Scotty Chipperfield have always been close mate?s since a young age.

Schwarz: Really Slats?

Slatter: Well no??.but im sure there good blokes ay Hudo?

Hudson: Yeah im sure they are Slats. Now tell me what did the teachers think of you at school.

Slatter: Well technically im still at school I just don?t go but they didn?t mind me to much even though I never do any work and just sit there thinking about the day I score a ton in front of my home crowd at the MCG.

Hudson: Well it?s been great talking to you Slats hopefully we can have you on the show again one day maybe even as an Australian cricketer.

Slatter: No worries boys we?ll see how we go ay.

Schwarz: Thanks Slats

Slatter: Thanks mate, Cheers.

Tuesday - Training
28th November 2006
12:00pm

With the game against the Blues tomorrow today is our last chance to run through the paces and also for the team to get announced. The boys are now back at 100% after recovering well from the tough schedule of cricket that involves a lot of time on the field and little time off it. A promising net session leads us into tomorrow?s game at The MCG against the cellar dwellers of New South Wales who are yet to score a point.

A lot of talk during training was on a Queenslander strangely enough who has just scored a massive hundred in the Pura cup match at the Gabba against the West Australians and many now expect him to play for Australia again one day. There is also big support for our skipper who sits second on the first class wicket taking table just behind rookie Queensland paceman Mitch Johnson who are both expected to be picked in the up and coming VB Series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka which would be a big loss to us but a gain for the national side.

Can Jimmy play for Australia again?

After our net session all the boys gathered together to hear the team for tomorrows game, which doesn?t hold to many surprises. After all why would you change a team that hasn?t lost a game and is on top of the Pura Cup Standings?

Around The Grounds

There has been some thrilling cricket going on during the week between Queensland and Western Australia that started with a Queensland win off the last ball of there one day clash with the Warriors followed by the highlight of which was a high scoring draw at the Gabba where Jimmy Maher racked up more runs to be top of the run scoring table in the Pura cup.

Australia also took on the Sri Lankan?s in the 2nd test of the 3 mobile series and cruised home to yet another series win again without needing to bat a second time. Matthew Hayden managed 104, as Ponting made 77 but the main man was Brett Lee who must be setting some kind of record for most man of the matches won as he went through the Lankan?s yet again. A dead rubber remains to conclude the teat matches for this summer and then it?s into the VB Series.

Everything is set for the next Pura Cup match at the MCG between the Victorian Bushrangers and the New South Wales Blues. This one is a season defining game for the Blues who are yet to gain a point this season.
