England U19's end the rot
FOURTH YOUTH ODI, Grace Road
England U19s 265/5 beat Pakistan U19s 264/4 by 5 wickets
England U19's finally managed to pick up a win in the One Day series against
Pakistan. Pakistan had won all three of the matches between the sides but
England put on a good show at Leicester to regain some pride. Adam Lyth
created the win with a superb 95 from 99 balls helped by a fantastic knock
from Tom Westley of 87 from just 79 deliveries.
Pakistan made 264/4 with some good batting by four of their top five batsmen.
The openers put on 97 together, Ahmed Shehzad hitting 44 and Shan Masood
58. Umar Amin went for a first ball duck but Taimur Ali and Usman Salahuddin
hit a partnership of 118 for the 4th wicket. Ali fell on 64 off 79 balls and
Salahuddin and Ali Asad both finished not out on 59 and 29 respectively.
In reply Billy Godleman was dismissed 2nd ball of the innings by Attari for a
duck. Alex Wakely hit 47 before Azhari got him too, but it was Adam Lyth who
stole the show. He fell just 5 short of a well deserved half century, and along
with Tom Westley who made 87 in quick time, they brought England within
touching distance of victory. Karl Brown hit an unbeaten 22 from 27 balls to
bring England home with 4.5 overs to spare. Azhar Attari took 3 for 52 and
Mohammad Aamer 2 for 59 as the Pakistani bowlers took a bit of tap.

'India need to bat more sensibly' says Sunil Gavaskar

India were bowled out for just 196 in the 1st ODI at The Rose Bowl
Sunil Gavaskar spoke out about the way in which India were bowled out in the
1st ODI on Tuesday. India made 196 in 43.3 overs but lost wickets at regular
intervals to leave England a rather low total to chase. "They need to bat to
the situation. It's fair enough going aggressive at the start but as wickets fall
need to adapt, and India just didn't do that at all. The experienced players
need to set an example if India are to compete in this one day series" said
Gavaskar.
The ex-Indian batsmen also mentioned how crucial he feels Kevin Pietersen
will be in this series. "He is an extraordinary batsmen who wins games by
himself. He will be a crucial factor to the outcome of this series. Obviously
it's a team game but he is such a big player, if he fires then it will take a big
effort from India to beat England."
The 2nd ODI takes place at Bristol on Friday.
