England National football team thread

Expect Wilshere to come back on a similar level to Ramsey. Ramsey was out for less time and was being touted as one of the next big things in British football, now look at him.

I can't remember whether it was match fitness or training that was being referred to, but whatever it was, Wenger said the absolute earliest he will return to either is in September or October.

For England's sake, i'd hope that not the case.

Oh, I really hope you're wrong! Wilshere's the most 'Scholes' like player we've got coming through!

To miss an entire year of football and probably lose some pace/fitness as well... this could be terrible for England. Guess a lot will depend on how mentally strong he actually is.

Oh, and for Carrick to now come out and say he'll be available when Wilshere/Parker are injured and Gerrard might struggle for fitness... he should be told to go have intercourse with himself.

Looked at it again. He says he'll be back in training "this week in September or October", I assume this means late September or October. This is also without him suffering any fresh setbacks, so if any setbacks occur, it could potentially be two full seasons out:eek:.

If he plays this season, he'll be average at best, and incredibly injury prone.

It's the mental side that will have to recover as well. It's tough to get stuck in to a tackle when at the back of your mind is a year out injured and the potential end of your career.

This year Ramsey needs to find his next level.

Ramsey was fine nearer to the start of last season. Wasn't amazing by any stretch, but made one or two mistakes per game max like any player. Unfortunately, the media got on his back and a kid his age just can't handle that. That's when his form dipped.

Wilshere will get the same treatment most likely, though this will take the spotlight off Ramsey and allow him to get on with it.

Not looking good at all for England. Your future midfield of Cleverley and Wilshere that was being hailed as exceptional just a season or two ago is in danger of becoming incredibly average and injury prone.

it's really difficult to call with long term injuries, some players come back just as strong, and arguably better due to a stronger mentality after a long layoff e.g. lescott after his knees

some don't. it's just guesswork until he is back playing again

It's fine. Everything is saved. Carrick might be available again. :lol

Indeed. This is why Beckham should have great respect. Given his superb celebrity status after he was dropped from the England team after W-Cup 2006, he worked hard to get back into the team and en route to the 2010 W-Cup, he signed to AC Milan just to prove himself to Capello.

You never saw him make stupid demands to the FA, that if he couldn't guaranteed to be a starter, that he wished not to be selected like Carrick.

Carrick although some would say has been a victim of the English culture not valuing his style of play or knowing how to use it properly as the case was with Scholes, Le Tissier, Waddle, Barnes, J Cole - he also look poor in England in past friendlies, which didn't help his cause in recent years, while players like Barry and Parker shined when given chances.

So Erickson, Capello not trusting him to be the Xavi of England's mid-field is also down to him too.

But sadly his ass is needed now, so we gotta make due with him

I hated the whole, "Beckham should retire" just as much as I hate the whole "Ponting should retire" or "Sachin should retire." Their only duty to their country is to make themselves available until they can no longer play. The sensationalist media are just appalling really.
