England Tour Of Bangladesh 2010

Bloody daylight savings time, came home expecting match to be starting right now and there is still another hour left, could have stayed at the bar a bit longer :facepalm

dude tell me about it. i am pissed off. almost forgot about it. was like wtf is going on?

513 to win.

ah Shakib, missed out on another 5fer. would have been his 7th

Shakib, Tamim and Mahmudullah can all be Test caliber cricketers. Just need 2 more and Bangla could be much improved.

damn Swann!! that was a killer! Tamim got out to 2 very good balls in both innings. He didnt throw it away, unlike some of the others.

Tamims avg. 2008: 26, 2009: 35, 2010: 61.

I'd say they need two quality bowlers and two quality batsmen, they concede way too big totals and don't score big enough ones themselves.

Well England made hard work of their decision to bat again, Carberry didn't make most of his second chance, noone made 50 and they managed an ordinary pace of 4.22 rpo which wasn't even as quick as the 1st innings of 4.32 :facepalm There was always going to be enough time, I'm still firmly of the belief they didn't need to bat again and the Bangles won't make 304.

If Bresnan is Test class then I'm a dutchman, Finn is not ready for Test cricket and I think playing him here was of limited use. Be better to play a fringe bowler, someone like Plunkett, Tremlett or even Pattinson or Khan, someone who has played before and should be in a queue awaiting another chance. Except I don't believe the selectors work that way, they seem to be rather random in their 'selection policy' and it's rubbish.

Only thing to look forward to in this Test now is whether Swann will get a 10wm, his best being 9/164 against South Africa in the Boxing Day Test last year

Five down now, Swann's 10 wicket haul in danger, Bresnan picking up two wickets. Looks like the Bangles will struggle to make 304, although it's just typical of England though to underuse their p/t bowlers when they've only got four main bowlers, but if they had five then you can bet Collingwood would have half a dozen and KP one or two. KP bowled ONE over in the 90.3 bowled 1st innings, none have been bowled by part-timers in the 42 overs so far in this innings.

While Swann can bowl through more or less from one end, who knows what a part-timer can do. Collingwood could make that breakthrough that you really need, like was needed 1st innings. Something different, batsman perhaps opening up a bit more and getting careless. Certainly within the hundred partnership the Bangles managed 1st innings you'd have hoped to have seen some imagination and more than ONE Pietersen over

I think you're being a bit harsh on Finn Owzat but I agree on the rest of what you have said. Bresnan isn't test quaility not close to be honest and his batting is worst.

Cook's had a mixed captaincy debut hes seemed to place good fields then has all to quickly gone defensive. I mean come on Cook they need 513! He underused the part timers especially during the Bangladeshi's big partnership in the first and I'm not too sure about the declaration.

Finn's in the midst of a rather good spell he can reverse both ways with is a massive plus.

On the Bangladesh front they have a few decent players but they are let down by others in the team whom don't seem to be mentally ready for this stage. They desperately need two good seam bowlers thought thats where they are let down most as in the spin department Shakib looks good enough even Razzak and Mahmudullah look ok. Sadly the two Hossain's are nowhere near good enough on the basis of this performance.

Man I've been really impressed with Mushfiqur. Apart from his incessant yapping behind the stumps which annoys the heck out of me, he's turning out to be a pretty tough little nugget. He can bat long periods and frustrate the bowlers. However, Siddique on the other hand I'm not so sure about. Once in a while he'll put in a good innings but that's few and far between.

Yeah I agree Mushfiqur has looked solid with the bat in both innings he's definetely not looked like giving his wicket away unlike Siddique who every now and again has a wild slash at the ball.

They did finally move Mamudullah up from no 8, but why Mushfiqur is still down there at 7 is mind boggling. When Ashraful was dropped, you'd expect that it would be far more ideal to move an in-form player into that spot, rather than bringing in a player with a particularly poor record and no recent form.

I don't really rate Bresnan, but he bowled a very good spell today. The wicket he got in the 1st innings was a beauty as well. If he can bowl jaffers like that in the Subcontinent, and do it more consistently he could be a genuinely good Test option. Been impressed by Finn after his 1st spell too, the delivery to get Kayes was a beauty. Think both those guys have done themselves no harm at all in this series, both bowled very well.

Listening to the commentary last night, it was very dubious why Atherton, Cork & Butcher where deliberating over & over about why England should have played 5 bowlers blah blah.

This is Bangladesh for heavens sake, its not a tour to India, PAK or Sri Lanka. If the 4 bowlers we have even without Anderson. Onions & Sidebottom cant't/couldn't take 20 wickets in this match/series - they never will.

War added 6 Minutes and 35 Seconds later...

Have to disagree my friend.

Firstly i dont necessarily belive Bresnan is test-class either. But given the injury woes going into this test & his fairly impressive bowling in the just concluded ODI series. He had to play & he has bowled well especially last night - got a bit of reverse swing.

Finn indeed also is not 100% ready for test cricket. But he defiantely he defiantely is a key bowler for our future pace attack. I have no problem grooming him in a low key series vs Bangladesh instead of jokers like Khan, Pattinson & Plunkett - who have no future for England clearly.

Tremlett couldn't play since he is still injured & has been for a long time.

they need a top order batsman who can average 40 or there about, ideally two. They also need a good pacer now mortaza is gone.

get 3 players like that in and they would start beating teams.

^^ I dont think Mashrafe will play test any time soon. I hope he can return to ODI 1st. And we new bowling coach, who can work with Rubel and Shafiul, both can bowl around 145, and with Shahdat, who needs a brain. (which seems to work only when he hears the word 'ordinary')

Keepers usually bat low in test, specially when they kept for 200+ overs. But he was moved up the order in ODI, batted at 4. He batted at 3 few times, scored well enough. Opened 1s, scored his highest. I think he should just give up keeping, because he isnt good, keeps dropping catches. And become a #3. Because Asharul will never learn, and Siddique, he is no good for #3. He should go back to opening, because Kayes worries me. The way he handled bouncers was UGLY and EMBARRASSING.
