England Tour Of Bangladesh 2010

Yeah, not sure if streaky Siddique is a real number 3, he has developed a way of handling short pitched bowling, but even so, he'd long have gotten out on a more lively pitch. Rahim looks rock solid by comparison.

Damn Junaid should leave all the deliveries from Graeme Swann that are outside the off on the rough, it's really turning square out of that rough.

English commentators are grumbling about the pitch, weather, captain etc...but the important part is the ball needs to reverse swing.

Somebody needs to scratch that ball....rough it up lads.

Swann is getting some turn. He will probably be the one to wrap this innings up. These two have batted so well today, would be a shame (and typical) if one of them got out right now (10 minutes to lunch)

EDIT: Bravo Bangladesh no wickets in the 1st session (part thanks to the lack of aggression from Cook), semi-decent chance of drawing this one. I really hope they do.

They grumble any anything not going England's way. It is interesting though how pitches these days more often than not get better as the game goes on and don't break up like they used to.

I don't think there's cause for concern for England. 1 wicket and they'll probably wrap it up pretty quick. Bangladesh need to do it for 2 more sessions.

Well the next guy in batted for 2 hours in the first innings. England should still win this one but its already too close for comfort.

Gong pitch always has been like that. Flat with no cracks, even in day 5. Thats the way it always has been. But stats shows avg 4th innings score is something like 200...

Finally sixth down, England may come to regret not enforcing the follow on with lots of runs in the locker and time winding down all too quickly

Have to disagree my friend.

Firstly i dont necessarily belive Bresnan is test-class either. But given the injury woes going into this test & his fairly impressive bowling in the just concluded ODI series. He had to play & he has bowled well especially last night - got a bit of reverse swing.

Still doesn't justify his inclusion, unless he is in long term plans he shouldn't be in plans at all. Might get away with ODIs, not so sure Tests against decent opposition

Finn indeed also is not 100% ready for test cricket. But he defiantely he defiantely is a key bowler for our future pace attack. I have no problem grooming him in a low key series vs Bangladesh instead of jokers like Khan, Pattinson & Plunkett - who have no future for England clearly.

Not sure it's fair to dump Plunkett in with Pattinson, as with my last point it is that England seem to pick one or two new faces every tour or every other tour, it should be consistent selection with a plan, I wouldn't be surprised if the selectors take too much note of something and Batty is in next tour, or Mahmood, or Harmison or someone who hasn't toured in two or three

Tremlett couldn't play since he is still injured & has been for a long time.

I knew he had been, the point is there should be half a dozen bowlers who've been used in the past 3-4 years ahead of the next, the next and the next 1-5 cap wonders

Owzat added 5 Minutes and 9 Seconds later...

With only two regular bowlers in the side Bangladesh's usual trick of pockets of resistance was bound to happen. That said I think Bangladesh may have lost the first half, but are ahead on points in the second half :facepalm

Swann to take a couple of quick wickets and one of the other bowlers to pick up a couple of tailenders.

Game over, and sorry to sound like a broken record but Cook is a pathetic captain.

Come on Swanny, your 10fer is at stake. Looks like the Bangles might just edge past the England total of the 1st innings, but England would have had not a lot left to chase.

That said, one other factor that I feel can be decisive in batting again is fields. When you have set 450+ you don't worry about runs, when you are trying to get a side out for 300 or less then the closer the side gets to making you bat again, the more defensive you can become. Michael Yawn, some people's "best ever England captain" was maybe the worst offender, perhaps because he was a poor captain carried by good individual performances and playing naff nations as often as he did. By comparison I think Gooch, Nasser and Stewart did better jobs with the inadequate resources they had, no Flintoff in his pomp (Ashes 2005), no weak kiwis and windies to batter and Bangladesh were yet to be given Test status/played

Go Swanny :happy
