Story Englands attempts to become the best (ICC2006 Ashes Edition)

great win for england, KP batted very well, but jacques was amazing with the bat, with 800+ runs

I know, I couldn't do a thing about it. I tried different lengths, different lines, different field placings, etc. It was so annoying, but in the end we won. Now I have the great fun of picking an English ODI team!

The twenty-twenty international offered a break from the real cricket. I didn't rest any of the big names, my team:

Trescothick, Prior, Pietersen, Key, Shah, Collingwood, Strauss, Plunkett, Harmison, Anderson and Panesar.

We won the toss and decided to bat, with little success. Trescothick made 24, Key 22 and Collingwood with a typical nudgy innings of 29, we made 108, not exactly a tough target for the Aussies to get.

We did get the wicket of Hayden but apart from that Hussey (59*) and Ponting (35*) made light work of the small total. Onto the real(er) stuff.

1st ODI vs Australia.

I decided to bring in Cook for Key, as I know Cook is in good form. We get a good start with Anderson and Harmison taking 3 early wickets, Martyn (55) and watson (48) steadied the ship and got Australia to 190-8. Anderson finishing with 3-53 as the pick of the bowlers. Plunkett took 2-55, Collingwood 2-26, Harmison 1-26 and Panesar 0-27. All bowled their full allocation of 10 overs.

Tres and Cook got us of to a good start before Tres falls for 34. KP fell for not many but Cook and Strauss revived the innings going with Cook eventually falling for an impressive 72 but Shah and Strauss (66*) brought us home to win by 7 wickets. Warne 2-32 and Bracken 1-31.

2nd ODI vs New Zealand. With the conditions suiting swing I bring in Mahmood for Panesar.

Fulton (61) and Fleming (59) get New Zealand off to a good start with none of the bowlers being that effective. Vincent made 50 also on their way to a good score of 252-7. Kp was the pick of the bowlers with his off spin, 10 overs 3-42, Anderson 1-20 (7), Plunkett 1-51 (8), Mahmood 1-61 (8) and Colly 1-19 (7), the selection of Mahmood didn't really work!

On chasing, Tres fell early to Bond but KP (67) and Cook (58) maintained the run rate below 5 RPO. When Cook fell Strauss came in, not long after that KP went, Shah came in and made 19 before falling to Mills. Collingwood (45) and Strauss (46) saw us all but home, Plunkett hitting the winning runs with his only scoring shot, a boundary infact, Prior was up the other end on 1*. Mills was the pick of the bowlers with 3-42. Franklin and Bond went at 7 an over, which helped me to a 4 wicket win.

This brought couple of suprises to me,

* Harmison playing in ODIs
* Bond going at 7 RPO

England is performing so well and look stronger than Aussies atm ;)

Well I had Harmison in my touring party for the Ashes (you can't change them) so my bowling options are: Anderson, Harmison, Mahmood, Plunkett, Hoggard, Rashid and Panesar. Flintoff may come into the frame later on.

as suren said england playing well, they should get to the finals at least

Ok so after the last games expensive spell from Saj and the next game looking like having a decent pitch for a spinner I bring Monty back.

We won the toss and decided to bat first.

We got a good poor start with Tres going for only 9 runs. So out came KP at Number 3. He and Cook (47) put on 105 before Cook fell to Warne. I upped Prior up to 4 to help up the run rate and that happened with a quick partnership of 75 off of 12 overs before Prior fell for 36. Strauss came out and hit 37 off of 30 balls whilst KP passed his hundred and sailed on to finish 134* at the end of the innings, Shah came out and got 18 before falling, Collingwood made just 11 in a short space of time. We finished on 295-5 with Watson taking 3-75, Warne 1-62 and Lee 1-43.

Anderson first over was stunning, bowling Hussey first ball and bowling Ponting fifth ball, leaving them 1-2 after the first over. Then my nemesis Jaques (83) and Hayden (80) put on 142 runs before Hayden fell to KP. then Martyn came out and made 34* but Jaques fell in that time. No one else made double figures for Australia and that proved their downfall as the slumped to 213 all out. The surprise was that Pietersen took 6-39 from 10 overs! Monty took 2-53 and Anderson 2-27. Plunkett was expensive going at over 7 an over from 6 overs.

We remained unchanged for the next ODI. We won the toss and again decided to bat first. Tres made 24 in a partnership of 43 with Cook before falling to Warne. Kp actually failed this time making only 9. Strauss made 30 while Cook passed the half century mark, before he fell to Kasprowicz. Shah made 24 off of the same ammount of balls before falling to Warne. Collingwood added some stability with Cook before Cook fell for 71. Collingwood and Prior put on 23 before Prior fell for 11. Collingwood finished on 55* and Plunkett 11*. Warne 3-64 a wicket each for Kasprowicz, Gillespie and Watson.

Harmison got Hayden early on and Anderson got Ponting out for just 7. But then Hussey (90) and Jaques (80) put on a mammoth stand of 150 before Hussey fell to Panesar. Martyn came out and put on 58 with Jaques before Jaques himself fell to Anderson. Martyn got to 32 before becoming Andersons last victim. Watson and Gilchrist finished the innings off when Australia finished on 250-5. Anderson 3-54, Panesar 1-46 and Harmison 1-42, Plunkett was again expensive, going at 8s this time!

Lol, Pietersen just pwns everyone.

How the hell did you manage to take 6 wickets with him? He always gets taken to the cleaners for me.

Well, Plunkers and Colly were getting hit for 7 and 8 an over respectively so I tried something different. He took most of the wickets in his last 4 overs. It was amusing, glad too, without him I'd have been stuffed.
