Story Englands attempts to become the best (ICC2006 Ashes Edition)

Bangladesh are better, beware.

Is E Haque a generated player? Cause I haven't encountered any batsman for Bangladesh by that name...

That was a good win.. Now you can take risks of some experimentations like bringing in Rashid,Jones and Loye. ;) Also pity that Read was left for this series.

Dunno it's only a two test series, I'd imagine he'd want to avoid any slip-ups and make sure he wins the series!

Rashid does however seem to have done well for you when you've bought him in which is good to see :)

I think so. Right hand Bat, I think he bowls off spin. Around 22-23. When I go down on the PC and on ICC next I'll get a screenshot of him.

----------

To avoid a 3rd successive post!

I saw the pitch and decided to play Rashid, as it was going to be offering something for the spinners, I dropped Tres and gave a debut to Loye.

Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first. Shariar Nafees helped Bangladesh get off to a good start on his way to a well made 42. But Harmison took 2 early wickets to leave the Bangladeshi's at 55-2, Nafees was joined by Haque who took Bangladesh up to 106-3 before Nafees was bowled by Collingwood. Haque and Rahim put on 123 before Rahim fell to Panesar. Haque fell not long after also to Panesar, falling just one short of his century. Collingwood got another wicket. Then Harmison and Panesar finished off the innings to leave Bangadesh all out on 254. Harmison 4-38, Panesar 4-76 and Collingwood 2-43. Rashid only bowled 7 overs for 40 runs.

We struggled from the off with Key going for only 9. Loye gave some resistance with Cook but went for 28 and 22 respectively. Joyce only made 20. Shah and Collingwood put on 74 together before Shah fell for an impressive 43 (the most fluent innings of all with 6 boundaries). Collingwood and Prior (17) put on 30 but it was hard and we weren't batting well. Collingwood tried to bat with the tail but was caught at slip off Rafiques bowling for 59. We finished up on 220 wit Rafique taking 4-43.

Anderson and Harmison grab an early wicket between them each, Bashar played really well making 70 runs off of just 72 balls. He didn't get alot of support bar from Saleh who made 35. Rashid and Panesar bowled well destroying the middle order, and eventually the tail. We bowled really well, which was important because with a 34 run deficit we couldn't afford a big run chase on a turning track. We managed to bowl them out for 156 with Rashid the pick of the bowlers with 3-16, Panesar 3-31, Harmison 3-57 and Anderson 1-40.

We were set a target of 191, with lots of time to play.

We got off to a good start with Key and Cook getting us to 103 before Key fell for 58. Cook and Loye got us up to 148 before Cook fell for 69. Loye batted well with Joyce to help us over the line. Loye made 47* and Joyce 15* as we reach 192-2.

Up next 3 ODIs...

If I win the ODIs I gain an extra point in the ODI table due to the current away result in Bangladesh being 0-0.

With our last ODI series before the world cup ahead of us I wanted to give a few players a game, my first 11 for the 1st ODI vs Bangladesh was:

Trescothick, Cook, Key, Loye, Davies, Collingwood, Prior, Clarke, Jones, Anderson, Panesar.

We lost the toss and were put in to bat first. Trescothick and Cook put on a brilliant 103 together before Cook fell for 51. Key made only 13 as captain, yet to hit it off in ODI cricket. On a pitch which offered a little more for the spinners than the paceman the Bangladesh spin twin of Rafique and Sunny did well to stop our midle order from really firing to reach 250+. Loye made an impressive 24 before being run out by Trescothick, Tres followed soon after for 76. Davies made 22 before he was bowled by Sunny. This left Collingwood and Prior with 8 overs left to give the innings a good finish, they done that with prior making 27* and Collingwood 24*. Rafique finished with 2-42 and Sunny 2-56.

With a testing target Bangladesh did okay early up with Nafees making 29 before being bowled by Jones. Bangladesh did struggle though with Ahmed making the only real contribution of the innings with 53. Monty tightened their middle order bowling 5 overs, 3 for 15. Clarke got the important wicket of Haque and took a great catch at slip off of Panesar. Collingwood bowled well with his little seamers taking 2-33 but the Bangladeshis didn't really fight bowing out on 123 All out. Anderson 2-15, Jones 2-26 and Clarke 1-33.

With the 2nd ODI pitch offering lots to the spinners I bring in Rashid for Clarke. We lost the toss and again were put in to bat.

Cook and Tres get us off to a good start again before Tres is run out on 52 as Cook tried to get to 50 with a quick single to mid-wicket. Key fell for 13 again as he failed to make use of a decent pitch. Sunny for Bangladesh bowled well again with his Slow Left Arm, only going at 4.6 in his 10 overs. Loye joined Cook and the two put on 53 before Cook fell to Sunny. Davies joined Loye who put on 83 together before Loye fell on 62. Davies made 45 before being bowled by Haque. Colly made 24 with the tail, but Prior and Rashid couldn't hang around with him. Haque finished with figures of 2-56 and Sunny with 3-46 as we got to 281-7

I was confident of defending a big target like that. Jones and Anderson got two early wickets, and Jones carried on with good form taking another. As they tried to fight I brought on Monty who got another wicket leaving them 4 down for 62. Rahim joined Saleh, the latter in inspiring form and they put on 90 together with Rahim making 40 and Saleh 59 off of 44 balls. Collingwood got Saleh by knocking over his leg stump. Rashid then came on and destroyed their tail and also the wicket of the keeper Rahim. Haque who took 3 wickets when we batted put some resistance in at 10 (this isn't the Haque who troubled me in the tests) hitting 24 off of 15 balls before Jones bowled the last man, finishing the innings on 213. Jones 4-36 and Rahid 3-37. Anderson, Collingwood and Panesar took a wicket each.

With the series wrapped up I wanted to do a bit of tweaking in the last ODI. Bell came in for Key and I gave Davies the gloves as opposed to Prior.

We won the toss this time and decided to bowl first. Nafees showed some good form, hitting Jones and Anderson for numerous boundaries, despite that we did make inroads with a wicket each for Jones and Anderson. When Collingwood came on he got another one of Nafees' partners as the opener struggled to keep going. Eventually the keeper Rahim joined him and the put on 80 together before Nafees finally fell to Rashid, via a great catch by Davies behind the stumps, one his 3 victims today. Nafees went for a brilliant 76 off of 121 balls. Monty and Rashid bowled well against the middle and lower order on a turning pitch. Monty finishing with figures of 10 overs 1 wicket for 27 runs. Rashid had been expensive in his first few overs, but clawed it back well. Rahim eventually went for 51, bowled by Rashid. They got to 210-7, Rashid 3-54, Collingwood and Panesar 1-27 from their 10 overs each. Jones and Anderson had just the 1 wicket a piece.

With a fairly low target I was confident, but the early loss of Cook for 2 was a big dent in my aim. We were very slow today, Tres fell for 17 off of 42 balls. Loye and Bell put on 60 before Bell fell on 35, Loye continued on to 47 as he and Davies put on a painstaking 18 with Davies making 9 from 40 balls! Hasan got both though in the same over. We somehow found ourselves needing 89 from the last 10 overs, Collingwood and Prior did bat well in those last 10 overs but it proved to be too much. Collingwood finishing on 57* and Prior 32* off of just 22 balls, a dissapointing day.

Up next, it's only the World Cup! (Delayed by a month for some reason!)

Thats good innings from Loye in the end.. and brilliant bowling from Rashid too.. So both the experimentations worked out well :)

Pity that Bangla failed to utilise the lead as they clearly gained upper hand in first two innings of the match!

EDIT : I just saw the ODI updates. Once again Bangla could have won this series if they wud have managed to win that first ODI which was a low target.

England needs improvement before the world cup as they failed to win in a dominating way ;)

Yeh Loye played well, he's certainly gone above Joyce and Key, I'd be shocked if he isn't in the WC squad.

loye and cook both played well in that series, i think it will be a toss up between the two

Maybe both will play.....

Expect the first World cup match report tomorrow!

After some deliberating over certain players I decided on this squad to try and win the World Cup!

Strauss, Pietersen, Loye, Vaughan (Captain), Shah, Cook, Prior, Collingwood, Flintoff, Mascarenhas, Anderson, Jones, Harmison, Rashid and Panesar.

First game vs Canada, we lost the toss and were put in to bat.

Cook, Vaughan, KP, Loye, Strauss, Collingwood, Flintoff, Prior, Harmison, Anderson, Panesar.

Cook and Vaughan put on an opening stand of 62 before Cook fell on 34. Vaughan followed on later for 37. Loye made a dissapointing duck. KP played well making a good partnership with Strauss before KP fell for 59 from 51 balls. Collingwood and Strauss put on 81 before Strauss fell after a brilliant 70. Prior and Collingwood put on 45 more runs before Collingwood fell on 50 (36) Prior and Harmison put on 30 for the last wicket with Harmison hitting 15* from 10 balls, Prior finishing on 30* from 28 balls. Every single Canadian bowler went for at least a run a ball. Osinde was the pick of the bowlers with 3-64, Jyoti with 2-63. We got to a good score of 318-7 on a pitch that offered some turn.

Anderson and Harmison took 4 early wickets as Canada looked to attack, they were 34-4 at one point, losing 3 wickets without scoring. Qaiser Ali made 29 as the only real resistance of the innings, before coming down the track to Monty, but missed the ball and was promptly stumped. Anderson came back and took 2 more wickets and Freddie got the keeper out by a good catch from Harmison. Panesar took the final two wickets as we thrashed them by 212 runs as we bowl them out for 318. Dhillion (the 2nd wicket to fall) was Anderson 100th ODI wicket, taking him just 63 ODIs!. Anderson finished with 4-32, Harmison 2-11 from 5 overs, he bowled well. Panesar 3-11 from just the 2 overs. Flintoff 1-32.

On an iffy looking pitch with overcast conditions we decided to bowl first against New Zealand with an unchanged line up.

Fleming and Fulton put on 74 runs for the first wicket with Fleming hitting 2 sixes as Harmison and Anderson struggle to get the break through. Harmison eventually got Fleming bowled though. Throughout the whole of the middle order the biggest contributor was MacMillan with 19 as Collingwood, Flintoff and Panesar all help themselves to wickets. Monty took 3 wickets, including that of MacMillan and McCullum, both lbw from around the wicket. bond put up some fight at the end of the innings scoring 25 from 43 balls, but Freddie eventually bowled him to leave the Kiwis on 193 with 7 overs to spare. Monty 3-31, Collingwood 3-36, Flintoff 3-48 and Harmison 1-45.

With a smallish target to chase it was dissapointing to see Cook go for 7 when the score was on 12, but KP and Vaughan put on a good partnership to give some security to the innings, Vaughan fell on 36 to Bond. Loye joined KP and the two put on 50 before KP fell on 45 to Vettori. Loye carried on his good innings with some handy support from Strauss, Loye dominated the partnership scoring 20 from a 25 run partnership before Loye fell as he had just passed 50. Collingwood 25* from 23 balls and Strauss 24* from 30 balls finished the innings of as we get to 197-4. Earlier on KP got to and passed 2,000 ODI runs.
