Story Englands attempts to become the best (ICC2006 Ashes Edition)

Strauss is maybe doing slightly better. His ODI average on my game is about 43 now. it's 32 irl. Batting at 4 he has gotten alot of Not Outs.

I shd say, it was a poor display from Kiwis. England are getting stronger and stronger day by day :)

For the Kenya game I decided to rest Harmison and Flintoff and bring in Rashid and Mascarenhas, 2 spinners looks ideal for a pitch offering turn.

We won the toss and decided to have a bat.

Vaughan plays a bad shot pulling and goes for just 12, KPs little rut continues as he makes just 10. Cook and Strauss put on a healthy 48 before Cook goes for 33, Strauss follows 9 runs later for 21. We are 85-4 on a good pitch, but we don't look in any kind of shape to get back into the game to be able to post a good target. Collingwood joins Loye, and am I glad about these two. They both bat beautifully to get us out of an embarrasing rut. Collingwood and Loye bat right till the end of the innings and get us past 200 and eventually onto 220-4, a massive 135 run partnership. Colingwood 79* from just 66 balls, Loye finished 74*. Ongondo 2-50 did the damage in the innings.

Dimi and Anderson struggle to break through the opening par until Dimis 7th over when he took 2 wickets. Kenya never really put on a big partnership but kept putting on 40s and 30s, this damaged us as they kept up with the rate. Collingwood bowled well, taking 3 middle order wickets, Onyango made 60 bbefore coming one of Collys victims, out lbw. Odoyo though helped see Kenya home in an embarrasing loss, finishing on 45* from just 34 balls. We almost had them at the end, but they snuck home with a decent 7th wicket partnership. Collingwood 3-45, Dimi 2-48.

First game of the Super Eight as we won our group, the Super Eight consists of all the top 8 test teams. India just getting through despite losing to Bermuda!

Harmison and Flintoff return and we win the toss and decide to bat first against the confident Pakistan.

Vaughan and Cook make a bit of a better start this time, getting to 40 before Vaughan falls for 21. Cook and KP put on a few runs before Cook fell for 28. KP was joined by Loye, they put on 70 together before KP fell for 41, Strauss went for just 7, Colly for a duck! Flintoff joined Loye, but Loye soon lost his wicket for 43. Flintoff and Prior put on 31 before Prior went for 16. Flintoff made 27 before being bowled by Razzaq. Harmison and Anderson put on a vital 16 for the last wicket to get us to 216-8. Khan 3-49, Razzaq 2-43.

Pakistan get to about 30 before first Anderson then Harmison get the openers wickets. Khan and MoYo came together and made 73 before Khan fell on 47. Inzy was brilliantly bowled by Panesar for just 15, Monty and KP bowled through the middle overs on another spinning pitch. Both bowled very well to help keep Pakistan getting above the Required run rate. KP got Akmal and Razzaq as Pakistan struggle, in the last few overs Flintoff and Anderson come in bowling yorkers trying to keep Pakistan from winning the game by getting those last 40 odd runs. We keep them down well but they are still just on target to win the game, start the 9th over of Anderson. LBW first ball, caught at slip second and third ball he bowls the No.11 to complete a hat-trick and win the game for England. Anderson 4-36, Monty 2-48, KP 2-32. Harmy got a wicket and Khan was run out.

Up comes the Arch enemy, no not Scotland but Australia! Cooks form has been very indifferent so far, not passing 50 on any occasion, I bring in Shah and move Strauss to open with Vaughan. We lost the toss but were asked to bat first.

Strauss and Vaughan do really well getting to 79 before Vaughan falls for 35 to Warne. KP comes in but is bowled by Warne in the same over. Out comes Loye who carries on his good form with Strauss as the two put on 110 for the 3rd wicket getting us to 189. Strauss is out lbw to Gillespie from around wicket, 10 short of his century. Loye & Shah fall as the score reaches 200. Flintoff and Collingwood make 15* each as we reach 231-5. Warne 2-35, Gillespie, Bracken and McGrath with the other wickets.

Harmison takes the early wicket of Hussey for just 4 as the score goes to 8-1. Ponting and Jaques defy the English attack putting on 153 before Jaques falls to Kp for 80. Ponting and hayden put on 41 before Ponting falls to KP on 91. Hayden and Martyn see the Aussies home very comfortably as Hayden finishes on 45*. KP 2-48, no other bowler really performed.

WHOOOOO Kenya! :p
Bad loss to the Aussies though.

Yes, but as we have 2 points carried forward and the superb win over Pakistan. We've got some points on the board. Which is better than none. Missing the form of KP also Harmison isn't doing much with the ball.

We came up against India on a very dry pitch which looked like offering nothing to the bowlers, so I bring in Dimi for Shah as Flintoff is out of form with the ball. We lost the toss and were put in to bat. Strauss and Vaughan put on 44 before Vaughan goes for 20. Kp comes in and puts on 15 with Strauss before Strauss goes for 29. Loye fails and Colly makes only a few. Flintoff and KP put on just 17 before KP goes for 30. The spin twins of Singh and Kumble were doing the damage to my middle order, with 7 wickets between them. Flintoff and Prior put on 21 before Prior falls for 12, Dimi comes out to join Flintoff and the two get us to 179, with them falling in the same over to Kumble, Flintoff for 41, Dimi for 27. The tail only add 2 runs as Maniar grabs a wicket as does Singh. 181 all out, H. Singh 4-33, Kumble 3-43 and Maniar 2-37.

With a small target to defend we needed a good start and we got one when Sehwag was bowled by Harmison for 1. Sachin came in and played 3 great cover drives before getting out lbw to Anderson for 16. Harmison got Dravid caught at slip to reduce them to 54-3. Laxman and Dhoni put on a massive partnership of 83 before Dhoni falls for 48. Flintoff and Mascarenhas not penetrating at all. Laxman falls for 56 with the score on 144-5. Then they collapse massively thanks to Panesar and Harmison, thrown in with a couple of run outs and they only got to 166. Harmison 4-29 (Ironic considering I was thinking of dropping him), Monty 3-36 and Jimmy with a wicket.

We come up against South Africa on a pitch more helpful for seamers, I bring Cook back in for Dimi and decide to open with Prior to take advantage of the early overs.

The Prior experiment fails as he falls for 1. Vaughan and Cook put on 86 to get the innings back on track before Cook falls for 51. KP fails again making only 9. Loye and Vaughan put on 21 before Vaughan goes for 56. Collingwood comes out and he and Loye put on 102 with Loye getting out for 75 from just 52 balls, a brilliant innings. We manage to get a few more runs and put a good total of 261-6 on the board....

Our opening bowlers start off badly, and it kept getting worse, and worse, and worse and worse! Gibbs and Smith obliterate our attack and just kept going and going. No bowlers applied any sort of pressure, Kp finally breaks through but it is all too late as he gets Smith with the score on 227-1! Gibbs finishes theinnings off with 154* and Smith 90. KP 1-52 from 10. Shocking.

After that humiliating defeat we come up against the impressive Sri Lanka. I remain unchanged staying faithful to I thinkmy strongest XI. We lost the toss and were asked to bowl first.

Anderson gets an early wicket but it's in vain as Atapattu and Jayawardene put on 93 for the 2nd wicket before Panesar gets Jayawardene for 45. Collingwood and Panesar taking the 3rd, 4th, and 5th wickets very cheaply. Vandoort joined Atapattu and the two put on 85 for the 6th wicket, before Atapattu is bowled by Flintoff. Sri Lanka struggle to finish off the innings well losing wickets all too regularly. Vandoort keeps going and finishes on 57*. Panesar 3-27, Collingwood 3-41, Anderson, Harmison and Flintoff 1 wicket each.

Prior goes back down to 8 for the next innings.

Vaughan and Cook put on 52 for the 1st wicket before Cook goes for 21.. KP and Vaughan have a little knock together before Vaughan falls for 36. Loye makes only 16 this time around. KP and Strauss put on 59 for the 4th wicket before both fall to Suraj. Collingwood and Flintoff add some power to the end of the innings and put on 73 for the 6th wicket partnership before Colly falls for 30. Flintoff and Prior end the innings, Prior with a couple of fours and Flintoff on 43* from 33 balls, a brilliant run chase. Murali 2-35 and Suraj 2-63.

Yes*.

*That isn't a 100% yes, but I'm almost certain I am. 1 game left, I'll win it to be on the safe side ;)

* Suprise.. suprise.. suprise.. India lost there.. poor Sachin to get out after three amazing drives.. Luck in direction of England i shd say ;)

* It was a dominating win for SA.. Well played Gibbs. Bring back Read all the way from England for Prior. :p

* Thats brilliant run chase though Murali was unlucky to end only with 2 wickets

Overall Prior didn't have good series except for two boundaries against Lankans which Read can also hit...

Before getting to worse, Bring back Read!! Bring back Read!!! Send back Prior!!! lol :D

He's never really had the chance to get big runs. He made 30* vs Canada though! :D
