Okay so our last Super 8 game was against the WIndies, we lost the toss and were put in to bat.
Cook and Vaughan put on a decent partnership of 45 before Vaughan fell for 30. KP and Cook put on about 30 before KP fell for 23, Strauss came in and quickly went back in making only 5. At 84-3 we needed a good partnership. Loye came out and played yet another brilliant innings, certainly our batsman of the tournament, maybe even player of the tournament. Loye hit a six off of Gayle to get to 50, but Hinds (who is top of the ODI bowler rankings) bowled 10 overs ofr 29 including 4 maidens, this tightened up our effort. However, Loye and Cook fought on before Cook finally fell on 70 to Hinds. Flintoff joined Loye with the score on 200-4. Flintoff and Loye played some brilliant shots in the 6 overs left to get us to 245-4. Loye 96* from just 75 balls and Flintoff 18* from 12 balls.
Harmison got an early wicket, getting Morton for 9 with the score on 12. Anderson got Gayle the very next over to leave them 12 for 2. Chanderpaul and Lara put on a rebuilding effort of 52 before Monty got Lara caught behind for 31. Chanderpaul fell just 6 runs later for 31. Hinds and Sarwan came together with the WIndies in some trouble, but they played brilliantly, taking advantage of our 5th bowler combo of Colly, KP and Vaughan. They didn't stop with them either, making Harmison expensive with 66 from his 10 overs. i finally got Hinds out for 82 by Anderson but it was too late as they needed only 20 runs from 7 overs. Anderson did take a couple more wickets as he was the pick of the bowlers but Sarwan kept his cool and finished on 75*. 246-6 the final score Anderson 3-20 was the pick of the bowlers, not much support from the others, unfortunately.
The final Super 8 standings:
We played Sri Lanka in the Semi Final and the winners played Australia, who had beaten India with the help of a century by Hayden.
I brought in Jones for the dissapointing Harmison who had been poor in the last 3 ODIS. We had lost the toss again and as like the WIndies game we were put in to bat.
Cook and Vaughan did slightly better than last time, getting a good start and up to 79 before Vaughan fell for 40 and passed 2,000 runs on the way. KP joined Cook and the two kept the momentum of the innings going putting on 52 for the 2nd wicket before KP fell for 29. Strauss came in and played well, Cook hough fell for 77, Loye was the next man in. He and Strauss did well putting 49 on the for the 4th wicket before Strauss went for 36 from 30 balls. Flintoff made only a single and Colly only 13. Loye was joined by Prior and the two put us past 250 and onto 266-6. Loye 46* from 34 balls and Prior 20* from 14 balls. Vaas took a lot of the brunt going for 75 runs from his 10 overs, he also took two wickets.
We didn't bowl that well to start off with, Sangakarra and Atapatu put on 47 before Atapattu fell to Anderson and Jones managed to bowl Jayawardene for a duck. Flintoff came in and took another with Dilshan going chepaly. Monty took another wicket leaving them 4 down for 83. Sangakarra and Vandort put on a 100 for the 5th wicket before Vandort fell to Jones for 49. Freddie took another wicket as he bowled really well. Flintoff and Monty started to bowl really well in tandem before Monty got the massive wicket of Sangakarra for 101. Then Monty despite having not bowled that well took 4 wickets in 1.3 overs to wrap the game up, as the Sri Lankans were bowled out for 220. Monty 5-51, Flintoff 2-29 and Jones 2-43.
