A wonderful Lord's pitch and England chose to bat.
Knight again didn't stay for long, out for a run a ball 13 with the score on 26.Hussain went soon after scoring 11 then Flintoff added to the misery scoring just 9,leaving England kind of struggling at 81-3.Meanwhile Trescothick got to his 50 from 36 balls, but he too went to the swing bowling of Ganguly for 54.Vaughan and Collingwood got England back on track with an 80 run partnership,Vaughan notching up 50.
Collingwood was bowled by H.Singh for 23 then Irani came in and England knocked around the singles up till Irani was caught at square leg for 21 just before the 40 over mark.Just after M.Vaughan scored his maiden ODI century off 95 balls. At 40 overs England were 242-6.Vaughan and Foster started smashing it about to get over 300.Eventually Foster was caught for a decent 30 off 21.Giles was bowled by H.Singh 2 balls later. After the innings M.Vaughan was said to be disappointed in Tudor because he couldnt get off the strike and let Vaughan get the boundaries. So Vaughan really had to go in the last over and was caught off the final ball of the innings for a magnificent 142.England made 321-9 off their 50 overs, but will need to bowl like they did in the previous game to have a chance of winning this.
India were very poor with the bat today, chasing 322 for victory.
England got the ball hitting the edge of the bat all day, they got India to 51-4 at one stage with Ganguly,Sehwag,Mongia and Dravid going quickly.Tendulkar and Yuvraj made a 50 run partnership before Tendulkar went for 34.The innings went downhill from there with top scorer Y.Singh getting runout for 39 then Harbhajan hit a few boundaries before Giles got the wickets of Khan and Kumble then a runout ended the innings on 153 off 30 overs.
Im quite disappointed so i haven't wrote alot, there were at least 15 edges in that innings,so im going to revert back to the default batting tecnique of C04 to stop all the edges.
Come back tomorrow for the start of the 4 match test series,
Welcome to Headingley for the 1st Npower test match between England and India.Last time these two played in a test series was last winter where India won the 3 match test series 1-0.
Ian Botham has been down on the pitch, saying that its an excellent Leeds pitch, after the 1st half hour,it should be great for batting. Also theres hardly any clouds about.
And England have won the toss and chose to bat.
India pretty much on top at lunch!
India had an excellent morning with the ball, taking advantage of the little moisture in the pitch, and restricting England to 79-4 at lunch.
England lost Butcher straight away with the score at 4,Butcher going for a duck.Vaughan and Hussain made a 49 run partnership, before Vaughan went LBW to Kumble for 20.Just 4 runs later,Thorpe was bowled by Kumble for 0 off 7.But the captain Hussain managed to get to 50 in as many balls to help struggling England. But just before lunch,Crawley went LBW for 1,Kumble picking up his 3rd wicket in the 1st morning of the match.
So England 79-4 at lunch, and all of us hoping that England could maybe make it to the end of the day.
Progress will be slowed now that I return to school on Monday, especially ODI matches because I have to do both innings in one day because I can never save and rejoin.
Khan takes the 1st wicket of the match
Hussain on his way to 50 in the morning
Kumble takes 3 wickets in the 1st morning of the 1st day
England started well, hitting boundary after boundary, taking advantage of Kumble being rested all afternoon.Hussain then hit a superb century off just 113 balls, but not long later the partnership of over 50 was broken, with Khan's first delivery since the early overs of the morning, cleaning up Flintoff for 33 off 59,hitting 2 sixes.Foster came in and was untroubled, hitting 3 fours before tea,England ending on 190-5,with Hussain on 113 off 135 and Foster on 17 off 32.
England would just look to get through to tomorrow, and then maybe up the run-rate,although anything under 300 will be a disappointing score.
Come back tomorrow for the evening session.
Goodbye!
Nasser Hussain goes to another magnificent century
This match, after day 1,seems to be in the balance as England end the day on 282-7,on a great first day pitch.
Hussain's great innings came to an end not long after tea, when he was bowled by Nehra for 119 off 160.Foster and White were at the crease, and batted quite aggressively putting on a 75 run partnership.During this,Foster went to a valuable 50,and was dropped moments later by VVS.Laxman.He cost India another 16 runs, before he was runout by White, trying to get a quick single, and was runout by the bowler for 66 off 98.Giles came in and was untroubled by India taking the new ball, then Kumble bowling a couple of overs with it.
So,an ok day for England, they have made it through the day,and they should look for around 350 in the morning,to put India under alot of pressure,as England have been so good with the ball this summer.
Come back soon for day 2.
Goodbye!
Nasser Hussain eventually goes for 119
Foster goes to 50
Foster waits for the runout decision,he was given out
Great innings by Hussain and unfortunate for Foster to only get 50. Great comeback by England and to be honest they can make around 325 as Giles can bat as can White.
Great compilation video and great writing here, Mark.
Giles and White got England past 300 with some clean hitting, and they were frustrating India, with a number of edges not going to hand. Then White went to 50 off 101 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. But not long later, his innings came to an end after a miss judged attacking shot.Giles went for 18,edging to gully.Hoggard then hit a few fours to get to an unbeaten 13 before Jones was caught for 3,England reaching 334 off 96 overs.
England had 9 overs to bowl at India before Lunch, getting to 36-0.After lunch there was a collapse.Jaffer went first for 22.The next over Sehwag was runout for 25.Not long later Dravid was out for 5,the score 59-3.Tendulkar came in and hit 2 fours, but he was then runout for 11 with the score at 72.At the end of the session it was Ganguly and Laxman at the crease, with India 88-4.
A great session for England, more great fast bowling, and look like controlling this test match.
Join us soon for the evening session.Goodbye!
