I have a query about bouncers...

I am a pitch up bowler and skid the ball along the pitch. I can rarely get a bouncer, when I try and pitch it short one of two things happen.

1) It is a quick short of a length delivery
2) Most often, it is really short and sponge bounces up for a batsman to punish.

Any tips?

Well it's absolutley critical that you use every inch of your height. Make sure when you land in your delivery stride that you don't slouch down and that you remain upright. You also have to really slam the ball hard into the pitch so that it will bounce hard. Sorry if this advice isn't really helpful but I can't really explain properly how I do mine.

You never know Zorax, until you clock yourself on a speedmeter you can't rule your chances of being quick out. I never thought I was that quick either.

And I was going to post that video last week but I thought it might get removed by the mods. :p

I've calculated. It's somewhere in the Superthread. Turns out I was at about 50-60 MPH.

How long is your runup?? And a high arm action right? And do you have a large leap? I do, and I am wondering if that cuts my speed.
Also, do you try hard to swing the ball, or bowl seam-up?

I bowl seam up like my idol Glenn McGrath. I focus more on accuracy than pace although I do like to us my pace to bounce and york when I get angry. My run up is about 8 paces from memory, I don't have a very big leap but I do retain a very high arm action and am very up-right when I land. I haven't bowled since the season finished though so my memory is a little rough.

Ah. Mines kinda different. Walk, jog, sprint, high leap, highish arm action and I focus on swinging the ball. My action is somewhat similar to Sreesanth's. But a lot different when it comes to releasing. So does the fact that I hold the ball as an outswinger and focus on swing hinder my pace? or am I just weak...

Well the only lame thing I can say to you is that maybe your just build to bowl swing and not contain any real pace. Look at Hoggard; He only bowls 80mph at best and he has over 220 test match wickets. I'd say that if your main aim is to swing from the off, then that may be detracting from your pace. Try to bowl some seam up deliveries to see if you can notice any change because when I swing the ball the away from the batsman, I tend to lose a bit of pace.

I'll see Friday (Starting coaching again :)). I'll start off with a few seam up then turn to outswing, see if I notice anything. Will let you all know if I do...

He was one of a group of tearaway young quicks. One of the quickest around I believe. However to gain control in his bowling he reduced the pace and became a genuine swing bowler. Certainly seems to have worked in his favour.

Really?! Well I can honestly say that I never knew that!

I was wondering how my speed compares to other of my age range. At the last ODI between England and Pakistan I went on their 'Speed Stars' thing which is a net with a speedometer in. Bowling will balls lighter than cricket balls, off a 4 pace run up (they limited the space we had) I clocked 52mph, which would probably be closer to 60 off a full run with a proper ball. Is there any way of judging how fast I will be when I'm fully developed?

I'm nearly 17 by the way.

Hah! Atleast I'm faster than Freddie :p I mean, I clock 50-60 now, I'll certainly be quicker at 17 :p
Oh, and Hoggy can touch 80MPH. Know any bowler who hits 75 MPH max, that's seems to be my destiny :(

Ok, im really bored here, and reading through these, it looks like people know what there talking about.

I know limited amount of stuff about Quick Bowling, i know a little as im trying to get all my coaching badges. But if i wanted to convert from Left Arm Chinaman to a quick bowler, what would you guys advise?
