Idea Cup 2010
Bangladesh Vs. Srilanka
ODI Match @ Sher-E-Bangla Stadium,Mirpur.

Hic-Cups And Srilanka

Dilshan soon reached his half-century off just 45 deliveries which included 9 fours. The best feature of his innings till the time was his composure. He stuck it out in the beginning when the pitch assisted the bowlers and supported his skipper Sangakkara;who was going along nicely.Once Sanga fell to Shakib Al Hasan,Dilshan took the aggressor role while Mahela settled in.Dilshan, after finding his feet took the attack to the Bangladeshi bowlers. He punished everyone,be it pacers or spinners.

The partnership between Dilshan and Jayawardene was shaping up nicely.Dilshan was attacking while Mahela was playing naturally. Both seemed to complement each other well at the crease.Mahela never tried to match Dilshan's attacking play and kept the scorers busy by taking constant singles and doubles and the odd boundary. The pace of Mahela's innings was slow but that was over-shadowed by Dilshan's stoke-play as Mahela supported him well. The duo added 78 runs for the forth wicket.

After completing his 50,Dilshan switched gears and was running away with the game single-handedly.He smashed the bowlers all around the park. There appeared a common site of ball running towards the boundary every time.Dilshan was un-stoppable.Shakib Al Hasan had no clue of what was happening and full stadium was in silence except for one corner, where the sound of drums appeared to blow every Bangladeshi away.Dilshan soon accumulated 49 runs off just 27 balls and was on 99.He was just a run away from the 3-figure mark and guess what he did?He tried to get there in style and swung the bat as if he had forgotten that stumps are there as well.Shakib bowled a faster one and through Dilshan's shot, the ball kissed the stumps with immense pleasure. That moment was hott!Only Dilshan could have played this shot on 99.(Sehwag might surprise us)

With Dilshan getting out,Kandamby was the next batsman to walk in the middle. He along with Jayawardene, slowly but steadily took Srilankan total past 200.The spinners were bowling in tandom and pitch offered some purchase as well. Both batsmen played watchfully and kept the scoreboard ticking.Jayawardene, though was there in the middle for a long time now he wasn't able to time the ball perfectly. He tried to play some shots but to no effect whatsoever.Jayawardene couldn't resist it anymore and tried to go over the leg-side boundary.Syed Rasel was aware of his intentions and bowled a cunning slower ball.Mahela mis-hit that one and the ball was straight down the throat of the fielder.Jayawardene made 40 runs off 65 balls. He along with Kandamby put on 41 runs for the 5th wicket.

After Mahela got out,Perera a handy all-rounder came in.He was known for his fierce hitting capabilities in Srilankan Domestic Cricket.Kandamby was playing his natural game at the other end.The young man Perera could not show any respite and was out Leg Before Wicket for just 1.Suraj Randiv was the next batsman at the crease. He played well to support Kandamby but lost his concentration and fell at the score of 14.Srilanka were 242 for 7 at that stage.Bangladeshi bowlers kept it tight. All chipped in when it needed the most.Kandamby was running out of partners...

Srilankan hopes now rested on the shoulders of Thilina Kandamby. But after all his partners sort of betrayed him,why would he stay behind? He lofted one and ended up with nothing but throwing his wicket away and was caught. The tail-enders couldn't do much either as Srilanka reached the total of 265 for 9 after their quota of 50 overs.

Sri Lanka have posted a decent score on a good batting wicket.I feel that would be enough as the Lankans have a very strong bowling in comparison to Bangladesh's batting. I would go for an easy Sri Lankan victory but hoping you could take it down to the wire or even cause a surprise.

Great presentation and good writing. KIU..

Beautiful presentation, only suggestion that strikes my mind is the border width. Can you reduce the thickness of borders. Excellent going with the story. If Bangladesh can put up a good opening stand, it should be in their hands. It's not going to be easy though :D

Nice presentation there. Will be a tough chase for the Bangla but we shouldn't underestimate them ;) .Anyways nice update KUTGW and hope you win this one or even give a good fight ;)

Wow, Bangla were on fire there, but you never know if their batsmen are going to be up to the task. Certainly the bowlers have done their job especially Rasel.

Really good work mate, keep this up :)

Well,Bangladesh did pretty well to restrict Sri Lanka for just 265. Now Bangladesh need a solid start from their openers.

Anyways very good work on presentation and writing keep it up.

:Once again,Welcome to 'The Cricket Show' with me Sanjay Manjrekar for the mid-innings break. We have Arun Lal here with us.Srilankan innings has just ended and they have managed to put up a good total.Though,Bangladesh fought their way back in the end.Right,Arun?

15wmavp.jpg
:Certainly, yes. At one stage it was looking like Srilanka would ease their way past 300,but Bangladeshi bowlers did reasonably well to restrict the Srilankan batters.

4vpekw.jpg
:Shakib rotated his bowlers quite well there. He has been a good skipper for Bangladesh recently.

15wmavp.jpg
:He did it quite well.He brought himself on when it was most needed and got crucial wickets as well.He can surely go a long way as the captain.

4vpekw.jpg
: Do you think 265 would be easy to chase down?

15wmavp.jpg
:Start is very important. If Bangladeshi openers can provide a good start, they certainly are in with a good chance especially with the pitch getting better and better for batting.Dew factor might as well help the Bangladeshi cause.

4vpekw.jpg
:Bangladesh did get back in the match, but one man could have blown them away had he stayed in there for long,Dilshan?

15wmavp.jpg
:He played splendidly.Unfortunate he couldn't get his century but he did play some awesome shots. He just played down the wrong line and paid the price for it.But yeah, had he been there for another 10 overs or so;who knows what the scorecard would have looked like!

4vpekw.jpg
:Let us look at Dilshan's Wagon wheel and where he scored his runs -

2wejpyq.jpg

4vpekw.jpg
:He got his runs in almost all the areas.A good looking spider over there.

15wmavp.jpg
:Yes,he did play all around. And he got most off his runs through boundaries.Infact, almost all Srilankan batsmen started off quite well but couldn't go on to make a big one.Tharanga,Sangakkara,Jayawardene all got starts but none could capitalize on them.

:For Bangladesh,Syed Rasel was the stand-out bowler picking up 3 wickets for 47 runs in his 10 overs.

28ku1qu.jpg

15wmavp.jpg
:Yeah,he bowled really well in his second spell after Dilshan took him apart in the first spell.Shakib used him well actually and brought him back when the spinners had sort of put on the ties on the batsmen. He also obliged his skipper by getting the crucial break-throughs.

:Here are the scorecards of the first innings -

:We're almost ready for the Bangladeshi chase.Well,Arun in which dressing-room would you like to be at the moment?

15wmavp.jpg
:I'd be in safe side for sure,Srilanka. But might be we're in for a surprise.

4vpekw.jpg
:We'll soon find out what happens. That's it for now on 'The Cricket Show'.Do join us after the match for post-match wrap-up.And we've a sort of contest for the viewers called 'React or Predict? -It's Your Move'.Either you comment here or predict the answer the the following question and win 1000 vcash and reps.

It's a chaseable total for Bangladesh, and I think they'll be pleased at the halfway stage. Having said that they will need a big knock from one of their top batsmen to chase this down.

Love the scorecards, glad I was able to help with the graphics side of things. Also, cheers for the acknowledgement, very much appreciated.

My Prediction is Imrul Kayes as top scorer.
