Group E - England, India, New Zealand, South Africa

**breaking news**

prior has been rushed to hospital after being hit on the thumb in the nets..suspected break..

Solanki took the gloves for rest of the session..

we have no back-up wicket keeper in the squad..

will they fly a keeper out there ??

How quick can we get Loye (Who can keep) or someone else to SA!!

Send Trescothick there, look at my avatar, he keeps..

Gone for an X-ray on his thumb. Would be allowed to call up a replacement if he were to have broken it?

hope so..

they won't call up tresco as he is clearly the best ODI opener in england. :p

Lol, check my posts a few pages back. Its Geriant time!

Schofield has done well actually, im with sureshot on that one.

I was hoping maddy would get injured, Prior appears to be at least a little bit more talented.

check mustard's average and strike rate in 1-day cricket this season..

last time i looked it was over 50 with a strike rate faster than a run a ball..

all as an opener ..

he has improved massively this season.

Loye is an absolutely dreadful Keeper. The same for Trescothick. They willl iterally not have done it/even practised it in years. I know for sure Loye and Trescothick don't do any Keeping at training either internationally or domestically. Steven Davies, you time has come.

As a side note - is anyone else impressed by the fact that India are third in their group in the second phase despite not having won a game yet? :p

They also havent lost a game yet, and going by the points awarded to them, the Pakistan match was a victory. May be people here dont accept it as a win, but two points indicate that India were awarded winners.

Are they in third position now? So England are fourth?

I was just checking the Cricinfo fixtures table, and noticed that the last two matches of Group E are going to be both featuring India. So when India start their game against England, they will very clearly know what they will need to do to make a semifinal place. Here are some of the possible scenarios for Group E

New Zealand bt England - Sep 18
South Africa bt New Zealand - Sep 19

New Zealand end up with 2 wins (4 pts). South Africa also end up with 2 wins (4 pts) with 1 game to go. England end up with 0 wins (0 pts) with 1 game to go.

So India will need to win both games to make it to the semifinals.

Another scenario: If England beat New Zealand and South Africa beat New Zealand, New Zealand end up with only 1 win (2 pts) and England also end up with 1 win (2 pts) with one game to go. In this scenario, India need to beat England in a satisfying manner and will need to make sure they dont lose to South Africa by a big margin to try and get through on net run rate.

This group is going to be quite interesting. I hope England can beat New Zealand tomorrow because the second scenario suits India better than the first.

Note: All predictions made on teams that look like winning the most.

It's going to be tough for India. It's a shame that our bowlers are playing so poorly. Dhoni's captaincy is also questionable though the benefit of the doubt can be given to him since this is his first tournament. However, bowling Yuvraj for the extra over and continually trusting in Agarkar could have well lost us the New Zealand game.

After what Scott Styris has said I'm going to go all Kevin Keegan and say I'd love it if we beat them, Love it. We won't though because I'm not watching and England have never won a cricket match that I haven't watched some of (in recent memory :p) Even if its just a couple of balls that makes the difference :p However if I do get back from school and we've won, well to put it simply I'll go <beeping> mental

Tbf though Styris didn't actually say he wanted to beat England, he just said he wanted to win to secure New Zealand, it's just the Media turning everything round to make it controversial as usual.

Admittedly I did already hate him and I love hating people, I did it in the last game too :p but it was more what he said about loving to see England fail at everything? Why? Wheres the need?

Well Paul Nixon is working out there for Sky Sports. Perhaps Nick Knight could solve our opening problems as well...

If by 'out there' you mean the studio in England, then you would be correct.
