given the conditions.

I don't understand the logic of bringing out this thing of conditions when only one team has batted on it. Sometimes it's the opposition that can struggle due to the pressure implied on them.

A curtailed chase would mean Dhoni becomes a liability yet again with the bat (a 6 rpo req RR).

Quite opposite is the case in IPL in last 2 seasons.

I have never understood that logic. They have literally made 211 in 46 overs, why are we chasing 21 runs more? If they are giving us a target of 237 in 50 overs, I can understand but why are you increasing the target when you have their score in the exact same position.
Could be more reasons but one that I can think of is the advantage that the fielding team has in knowing what they have to chase with all the 10 wickets in hand.

Because had they known that they would be batting for only 46 overs, they would have accelerated earlier accounting for it.[DOUBLEPOST=1562683379][/DOUBLEPOST]

I believed that we all had realised by now that IPL Dhoni has no relation to the ODI Dhoni, after he has failed to translate that form to the international stage for the second consecutive year.

Does anyone else feel that the coverage of this game has been lopsided as hell? This isn't a one-sided contest at all so far, given the conditions. Yet, all commentators keep saying that NZ has batted way too slowly, etc. NZ have kept themselves in the hunt here and all it takes to tilt this in their favor is just 2 new ball wickets. I hope we do not get back on today at all and rather have to bat on a less gloomy day than this. A curtailed chase would mean Dhoni becomes a liability yet again with the bat (a 6 rpo req RR).

I partly agree with you. This is nowhere near done especially if there’s a DLS target. However, NZ gave Jadeja, Chahal and Pandya far more respect than they deserved with the chief culprit being Roscoe. The way in which he absolutely ripped Chahal apart in his last over showed that it was a mental block for him rather than anything related to the pitch or his skill. Had they played at a solid rate of 4-5 rpo instead of treating it as a modern test match, I would have been heavily worried.

This pitch has also deteriorated quite badly considering that it was supposed to be freshly laid. I’m not sure if such pitches are even supposed to be used for ODI series’ games, let alone semifinals of the WC. It all depends on how well CdG, Santner and Williamson bowl in the middle overs along with Lockie varying his pace effectively. If he uses his quicker deliveries as the surprise ball rather than the stock ball, he might trouble India today.

What if play isn't possible on reserve day too?

edit: India go through.

If play resumes only tomorrow, India will be clear favourites as the game would resume from the same situation as it was today.

If it resumes by 18:35 local time it would be a 20 over match with India needing 148 to win off 20 overs. Pretty unfair at current situation :(

And it has started raining again. The rain has to stop by 5:30PM local time for the game to start at 6:35PM (cut off time for a 20 overs match).

Right now, it looks like the game will be moved to tomorrow. Not sure who will be more happy. Also Cricinfo says the forecast for tomorrow is not promising, but someone here said that there is no rain forecast for tomorrow. Confusing![DOUBLEPOST=1562688584][/DOUBLEPOST]
Cricinfo says it is even worse tomorrow?

Wonder what Cricinfo is on about. Weather.com says that it is going to only be cloudy tomorrow during the day with a precipitation of 20% (this is for Manchester, England). There is some light rain expected tomorrow night, but as of now, the forecast says no rain expected during the day.

Weather forecast says 40% chance of rain from 4 in the afternoon,so game will be long finished by then. But it's England so you never know.

This is highly annoying for a WC semi-final. How to take another half day from work?

I dont think its worth it. Just go to work and follow the game on Cricinfo. Come back home and watch replay/highlights. That's what I've been doing. :D

They're resuming play and this is absolutely banana's. NZ have gone from being massive underdogs to overwhelming favourites.
