ICC Wants World Cup Coverage Removed From Youtube

Well I don't see a lot wrong with it, it isn't like they are showing the game live which would be affecting the TV companies. And in a way being able to watch videos is promoting cricket.

Agree, I mean people in non cricketing nations such as Switzerland and Russia aren't going to view highlights in their local news. Absolutely ridiculous decision by the ICC and once again we see the greed by the ICC.

I wouldn't even say it's greed as much as it is sheer stupidity. I thought exposure was what they wanted in non-cricketing countries.

Well ICC has to say something since some pretty hefty amount of money is involved but I am glad to find all the free video highlights of current games. Saves me from getting the expensive Sky subscription. I reckon ICC can still come to some sort of agreement with Youtube like other software studios. But even then, the actual video being posted doesn't belong to ICC but to the respective TV channels. So, ICC should probably stick to organising cricket properly and finding ways to make more money from Indian sub-continent.

I agree video websites online are a vital source for people in countries who don't follow cricket. Youtube is not the only website with ICC videos of the World Cup. Alot of people visit other websites to view them. So the ICC i don't think will really do much if they trey and get the World Cup vidoes taken off Youtube.

Interesting, so you see these cruddy little clips as an alternative to watching it on tv? Personally I couldn't be bothered with that, maybe as a suppliment to tv coverage but never replacing it (Not at current quality). I don't have sky tv either but I never considered in a million years to watch via youtube, I'm happy with radio coverage and a highlights package in the evening.

Youtube aren't idiots, I'll bet that they have a standard legal agreement that, like all P2P sharing programs, stops them for becomign responsible for the videos uploaded on their site.

Note that I have no idea what actually happens there, I'm not interested enough to go check, but I do know enough to know that youtube will have some legal bla-bla that helps it not get sued.

We get none on National TV here. I had Sky during last World Cup but right now do not have the budget since they have increased their installation and subscription prices.

Just relating to India being out and hence lesser viewership.

They'd have to ban my Youtube account to stop me posting the cricket montages I make. There's no harm at all in putting archive cricket footage on Youtube in my opinion. You don't see FIFA or the FA banning all the football clips.

Just remembered that NRL highlights are also banned from being posted on Youtube, not that you need it as the NRL official site provides the whole game anyway. So the ICC certainly isn't the first to do this.

I don't see the ICC ever putting video footage on their website. That would be far too useful of them.

I take it Sky over there is owned by the same people that it is over here. The main problem I have with it is I dont really mind if I could just pay for sports but they make you have all the other rubbish first. I did consider getting the ECB internet service (at least the money goes to cricket rather than Murdoch) but you cant get it as a UK resident.

You'd think the ICC would be more interested in illegal P2P streamers than youtube, but I guess that doesn't grab the headlines.

Exactly the same problem here regarding Sky packages. I also thought of getting an online package but the Internet situation in NZ is similar to poverty in Africa and will never improve it seems, can't even watch Youtube at times.
