ICC Wants World Cup Coverage Removed From Youtube

The ICCs problem is that people are stealing their copyrighted footage.
Yes, and next they'll be banning people from taping it. If you ask me they shouldn't put it on TV if they don't want people to do this, let people do what they want with what they've taped, they're not making a profit out of it and people who haven't seen any footage can watch some and enjoy the World Cup.

Except people are making a profit from it. Youtube has ads on it remember.

Youtube are making a tangible gain (monetary). ICC are making an intangible gain (rise in interest of cricket). It is obviously up to the ICC to choose (incorrectly) where to draw the line.

I see... But at least they're not selling it anyway, that was what I meant. It's one thing to stop people from black marketing matches for money, but to stop small clips from going on a free website is just silly for exposure.

Quite, and how much did they make from the sale of youtube to Google after about 18 months of work? $1.6 Billion iirc.

Youtube has alot of illegal content on it. If the ICC want to put clips online (a good idea) they should do it through their own site not through a 3rd party site.

Really this is down to a fear of new technology. As it has been said, technically you are breaking copyright to record a cricket match on your VCR (or DVDR of course) but nobody worries about this as its common place. Just like nobody would be bothered if you then lent that tape to your mate who missed the match. OK so in this case the clips are distributed to anyone who finds it on youtube rather than just a few friends but there is not much difference. Just like most TV companies arent bothered about clips of their shows being shown. Take a show like The Simpsons, its commonplace to find fansites where you can download 5 second clips of jokes, and I'm sure fox aren't in the slightest bit bothered. Or consider virtually everyones signatures and avatars here, almost all of them contain a copyrighted image that belongs either to a professional photographer, artist or company. Even worse these images are then altered.

Ok, this made me laugh, first time I have seen an actual corporation name.

That word, "corprration" really sums the whole situation up.

Cricket needs all the help it can to develop worldwide, instead of the same 8-10 countries. And what do the ICC do, ban it from YouTube,.. what a bunch of idiots who run this game, they're living in the 19th century.Rugby Union has/had a reputation for living in the past, but these prats take the biscuit.

And so it does. :p

Just checked this morning at school for some clips of the Pak vs Zimbabwe game (I felt depressed) and I found very few.

Around now, I see people have started uploading them again, and I checked the upload date, which was today, April 2nd

Just shows the real Pakistani fans :p

Anybody know how many people work for Youtube?

I'm gonna guess 3

http://usa.cricinfo.com/worldcup2007/video/

How come these daily highlights aren't taken down?

Can't they just leave it For people who haven't got like Sky Sport Or what ever Channel its on around the world

the world cup website has highlights and you have to pay for them so if youtube has them for free then they would get upset
