India in England Jun-Sept 2014

When WI roll around, I would really like Amit Mishra to play that series. I know he has had a run and didn't deliver and I also know he was hammered a bit in limited overs run he had earlier in the year, but of all the spinners I have seen, he is the one with the most guile. Ashwin it cannot be denied has been good in limited overs, were he could restrict runs, but taking wickets is a bit of a challenge for him.

Mishra has to be tried out. Ashwin on these pitches doesn't even pose a threat, or look like posing a threat. I feel Mishra would atleast have been asking some questions. Plus Mishra has the ability to beat the batsman in flight and even when the pitch is not assisting spinners, that quality alone can get the batsman to play a false stroke. Ashwin doesn't flight the ball at all, and so he cannot beat the batsman in flight. Its great for limited overs, but in tests its a weapon taken away from a bowler.

For all the batting woes, I feel if India had batted as poorly has they have, but had taken their catches, we would still have been looking at a different series. Taking just 47% catches in the slips is asking for trouble.

Oh pls we all get the importance of the Ashes for Eng and Aus, any cricket follower does.

The important point is you are missing why in the past 10 years every kid has been hearing about the Ashes, because you won the Ashes 10 years ago, after a long run of one side dominance from the Aussies, so that Ashes is a keypoint in Eng cricket and pushed up the popularity.

Which is the point I have been making all along, compared to winning the world cup, winning the Ashes, is nothing. You don;t know that yet because you have never won the world cup. I am not talking about the T20 WC, which not even serious cricket let along serious world cup. THE World Cup is sweeter than winning any number of test series, and if one Ashes win could push up pop of cricket so much, what a world cup win will do you cannot even imagine. The reason is you have never won the world cup, so you have never experienced that high. The ashes is as good as it ever got, and that is why you think that is the best it could ever get. If Eng win the World Cup then you will know the difference, till then you will keep thinking, the Ashes is the best it could get.

Once you win the world cup then every kid for the next 10 years will grow up reading about the World Cup win and the post will shift.

Since a lot of football analogy has been thrown around, let me give the example of Arsenal - Spurs. Spurs have never won anything big for many years, and to them its all about beating Arsenal, sure they savor other wins, but beating Arsenal (of finishing above them) is the best it could get. They have not tasted the big success in a million years, and so they don't know that feeling anymore. Once they taste it, they will realise beating their rivals is secondary there is greater glory to be had.

Similarly Eng are living in a very Aussie centric world, which they dont and probably will not realise till they win the World Cup.

Perhaps when England win the world cup there view may change, similarly when India embrace test cricket and become a world dominating side the great Aus/SA/Eng/WI sides of the past then Indians may think the world cup is just a bonus in the game of cricket.

I am disapointed in two players, of which I expected more Shami and Kohli. Shami should have been given more play in this series to grow whilst Kohli seems to be battling some demons of his own, cuz he is extremely talented I think limited overs cricket is getting the better of him. The rest of the Indian lineup was expected to fail with perhaps the exception of Bhuvaneswar, still think he played in helpful conditions so I wont go on his train as yet. MSD for man of the series for me!

The only thing getting me through this performance is that soon WI will come to Ind !! I am seriously thinking of giving the Aus series a skip, pointless watching a team go through the motions. After its a good 8 series run to look forward to.

India love test cricket so I don't know what you are talking about. If anything the least love Ind fans have is for T20.

Also winning the Ashes is not equal to being a world dominating side, so I dont know what you are trying to say.

Also, you clearly forget that India have had a great run of dominance, in tests and have been the #1 test side in the world, have beaten everyone in that run too. 2003 -2011 India lost a total of only three test series or two, I am not sure, and this is both home and away. In Int'l test cricket over a period of 8 years, thats about as good or dominant as a run gets. Can you name many better runs than that over 8 years for any side? So its not like Ind have to experience a good long test run, as you are trying to imply ... still World Cup is better, and thereis no debate on that.

Eng though most definitely still have to experience winning a world cup. and when that happens you will figure it out. However if this is really the attitude of the Eng supporters and fans, then that may not happen for a long while and Eng will continue to live in an Aussie centric world.

[DOUBLEPOST=1408195071][/DOUBLEPOST]The only explanation for all the catches is India are trying to drop all their catches for the next one year in the same match.

The West Indies didnt lost a test series in 17 years, Australia held on to the number one spot in test cricket for close to two decades, that it what you call a world class team, and mind you the present day South Africa are right up there also. So in your little perfect world of India holding down the number one ranking for a short period (which was very questionable 'calculations') and have never won a series on SOuth African or Australian soil gives them the right to be mentioned in the same breath as these great teams is beyond me, either you are plain stubborn or just havent gotten your facts right, the latter we can help since it affects most Indian supporters.

India only 3 or so years after the great year of '2011 have performed so badly. They're almost guaranteed a 3-1 licking against a relatively young English sided. In fact as I post this the 5th test may most likely wrap up by the third day with an English win.[DOUBLEPOST=1408195750][/DOUBLEPOST]

This is what you guys are looking forward to a home series against the number 8 ranked team in the world, pathetic.

I know about those two runs, everyone does, but they are expectional runs. Thats why I said, apart from those two do u know of any better runs than the one I mentioned. SA have never won in Ind, so by your logic, they are not on par with the legendary WI side. Its your 'must win everywhere' logic not mine. Still a good run they are on and u clearly admit that. So by your own logic, you don;t HAVE to win everywhere to be considered dominant. All this by your logic. So yes Ind didn't win in Aus and SA, but they won everywhere else and beat these sides at home. Also you are saying, India were #1 cos the math went wrong, that is pathetic.

Also stop acting like only winning in AUs or SA matters and the rest of the places, are in some way inferior to these tours. That is about as bit a load of nonsense as any.

You can try and live in denial all you want, but the fact is India had a great run for 8 years, and were #1, and we have experienced that and World Cup is better than being #1 test side. That is not to say we don't want to go on another similar run that would be fking great, when that happens, but still World Cup >.

However in your little world if winning the Ashes is everything then continue living in that well, what do I care.

Also what do u mean Ind have performed poorly after 2011 for the first time. Ind have been on a torrid run , since 2011. A good Ind test run is coming though. I know this side has lost the series in the head already, and Aus tour will be another torture in all likelihood. Once that bullet is bitten though, Ind have a run of 8 series to look forward to where the worst possibility is a draw. And why not, Ind have put in the hard work on away tours, away to Eng, Aus (soon) and SA and NZ (earlier in the year). So its soon time to sit back and cash in on the calender.

What on earth is happening suddenly? I have never a deader side on the field than this Ind side till half hr ago (well I have, when the visiting sides are chasing leather in India, but still), and suddenly whts up? Are England trying to deliberately doing this to keep some interest alive :D

Next up is Moenn ALi who is the closest thing Eng have had to a walking wicket this series

Love your enthusiasm but the series is done and dusted now. A side that drops 50% of its slip catches, gets bowled out for <150 so often does not deserve to draw the series. We have been pathetic. Butler and Root will cream us again from here on with Jordan and Woakes joining in the fun.

I am not saying Ind will draw this series, Eng have been too dominant, but even so it was a good run. On a run as torrid as the one we are having, small victories are sweeter still, and equally frustrating. Why can't you perform like this more often !

To this you @Untouchables666 replied -

The 'run' I said I am 'looking forward to', if you learn how to read English, is after the Aus tour. WI is before the Aus tour. (You really should get that English teacher, like I once suggested).

After Aus tour, Ind host, NZ, SA, Aus and Eng ... Now you called this run pathetic ... :D Why are Eng that easy to beat when they are on their travles, that looking forward to beating them is pathetic :D
