India in England Jun-Sept 2014

Also useless decision by ECB to keep Woakes, now that Stokes is fit again.

Wait, what ? This is for warmup or for the actual Test series

I said that cause dhoni wants to bat higher if i heard correctly and we need some stabalizing down the order if our top order fails

Dhoni is actually the reason why we can't play 4 specialist bowlers and an all-rounder outside the subcontinent, and when he starts pulling his weight with runs and proves he's first of good enough to bat at #7 in those countries, then we can talk about pushing him up to #6.

I would like to go with Pandey instead of Ishant. Do we need a pathetic experienced bowler ?

Good News ! Shami is bowling in the second innings although he bowled none in the 1st innings due to some injury/strain.

I would change the bolded players to (in order):
Dhoni
Jadeja
Binny

PS: Yea .. I am including binny. Atleast the guy is getting some wickets !!

According to the guy from Cricinfo on the BBC Radio coverage of the tour game: India's team is likely to be this. Please note that this was said at lunch and I'm typing this at tea so I'm probably making a few mistakes.

1. Dhawan
2. Vijay
3. Pujara
4. Kohli
5. Rohit Sharma
6. Can't actually remember - its not Rahane though
7. Dhoni
8. Jadeja
9. Shami
10. ...Kumar?
11. Ishant Sharma

I definitely though that they don't think that Gambhir will play; that India will go for four bowlers and not pick Binny; that they're looking at Rohit Sharma over Rahane (although that might be wrong as he's batting in all three batting innings); that Ishant Sharma looks locked in and that they don't like Ashwin. The latter isn't that surprising: it took the BBC quite a while to realise that the person they thought was Ashwin bowling was actually Vijay which says a fair bit about how impressive Ashwin's bowling currently is...

Jadeja and Binny, both have picked 2 wickets in this match but Jadeja has a better economy.
For me the equation is simple, i.e. if the pitch is too much seam friendly, go for Binny, and if not, go for Jadeja.

1. Dhawan
2. Vijay Gambhir
3. Pujara
4. Kohli
5. Rohit Sharma

Why go for Vijsy, when you have Gambhir ?

His argument was that Vijay has opened all three batting innings in the tour matches; while Gambhir only appeared down the order in one game and retired on 53. They're talking again about it now and are pretty much saying that its a question between playing that eleven or taking out the number six and playing Binny at eight (probably shuffling Jadeja to six). I'm not a dedicated follower of Indian cricket; so I can't get into a huge debate about this. Perhaps after this series, though!

Definitely sure that some random guy doesnt know what the Indian XI would be for the first test. I am sure even the team management must be thinking about it right now. This is what I believe the XI might be:

Vijay
Dhawan
Pujara
Kohli
Dhoni
Rahane
Jadeja
Ashwin
Kumar
Ishant
Shami

^^ Jadeja is there. I would pick Binny and Jadeja both. It gives Dhoni the confidence of batting deep and having 3 frontline bowlers + 2 bowling allrounders.

Jadeja can be swapped with Ashwin, but I would rather stick with Jaddu

Just saw Ishant' second innings figures. 0/10 in 7 overs. I guess that books his place for the whole series, until he gets injured

Binny shouldn't have even been picked for this tour... :facepalm

My goodness, Dhoni is not good enough to bat at #5 lol.

But he has been picked !

And he has actually done well against Derbyshire. Not to forget his BD tour performance. I would rather have not-so-talented, performing players in the team over talented, non-performing players
