India in England Jun-Sept 2014

Because I don't like him! I also don't feel he has it in him to up the run rate when required.

I would remove Cook and make Jimmy the captain. He sets all the fields for the fast bowling anyway. He's a proper northern lad (that won't mean anything to you!) and he absolutely loves it!

By the way, Andersons average in Aus is something like 38, so not that great. Broad is great in Aus though.

Anyway, Cook is staying and KP isn't coming back. So my WC 11 would be:

Cook, Hales, Ballance, Bell, Root, Butler, Moeen, Woakes, SOMEONE ELSE, Broad, Anderson

Possibly Finn as the someone else. My issue with that is Broad has stopped scorin runs, so its quite a long tail with Finn. I think Stokes has a lot of work to do, but could fill the 4th bowler role. I'd love to see PLunkett guven a go. He is another player treated horribly by the ECB and Cook along with Graham Onions. Keep an eye and Adam Lyth and Alex Leez from Yorkshire as well. Top players.

Yeah even the side you mentioned is quite good too, and on paper definitely not also rans. Its an excellent side. They need to handle spin better, but short of that, I do see them giving all sides a good run for their money. Thats why I said in one of the posts that its so hard to get the hang of how Group A will finish. Eng are not a side that I will say will finish 4th in the group and no higher. Ppl are underestimating Eng big time here.

Also that is what was so great about Ind's win. No one would be excited if Ind had beaten say B'desh in that ODI. Its Eng and they are good side which Ind beat comprehensively, and that is why everyone is so happy.

Well its a good thing in a way. We have been discussing alternatives to the present openers. It would be interesting to try options. Vijay can play limited overs, but like Dhawan he has had a long run of poor results in tests. (Dhawan has had a poor run in ODIs too). Vijay can definitely play limited overs cricket and is not exactly a pure test mold player as many have said he is. He has a long standing career in limited overs cricket.

Bit harsh don't you think ? 3 poor Tests where the whole team failed can hardly be called a long run of poor results. Especially when it comes after two brilliant knocks. And overall, out highest run scorer in the England Test Series.

Its an interesting move though. Will Dhoni pick Vijay or give someone like Rayudu/Samson a go

Giving someone like Samson a go would be interesting, Kohli too was 19 when he made his debut I believe.

Yes he was. Debuted as an opener as well.

I was actually referring to his run since SA. Yes two great knocks a hundred and that 95 at Lord's which is as good as a 100, but apart from that I think he has had very little noteworthy scores in SA, NZ and Eng in the last three tests.

I think Vijay should play, he is quite frankly someone who ticks two boxes that matter right now. Just played in Eng, so used to conditions and an agressive limited over player.

I don't know if he is availalbe for tomorrow, so that does put the opener slot into question. Dhawan because of Rohit's absence will get a start. The second opener if Vijay is available should be VIjay or it should be Rahane if Vijay is not yet there ready to play.

Samson/Raydu slot in at Rahane's spot. I would prefer Samson. I think he has great potential

Samson's debut would be something I would be keen for mostly because he is the only bright cricketer of our state currently. But knowing how Dhoni plans he would rather open with Vijay.Even if he choose Rayudu I would be with him.

Vijay had a 90 odd in one of the Tests in South Africa I believe.

Following the way how you judge players Dhawan would fall in poor group.Even Kohli also because after SA tour he has contributed little on overseas tests. However I would say we should stay with Vijay,Kohli and even Vijay in tests. In ODI we should take quick steps because WC is nearing but in tests we could wait for the players to gain experiences rather than panicking and changing everything all over.

I don't mind Vijay opening, as long as he really is our first choice backup opener after Dhawan and Rohit
