^ I agree the Kiwis are a super side. They don't have any superstars yet, although Kane Williamson will be one soon, but they are a very complete team.

I am finding it impossible to see how Group A will pan out with both NZ and Aus in there as well as SL who are one of the favs. I would still not totally rule Eng out though. On their day they could win.

I think India should play tests in the blue too and white ball. A change of outfit and suddenly they start taking slip catches now !! In tests edging the ball was one of the safest shots for England.

Nothing that has happened either on Wednesday or so far today has been a surprise. We have never been any good at ODIs. The selectors still pick the squad based on Test performances and there is a distinct lack of public interest in this form of the game, so the ECB are happy for us to be useless at 50 overs cricket as long as we're doing well in the Tests.

if they were picking on test performances, then ballance (who has an ODI average of 52 and a strike rate of 90) would be in this team when he isn't for some reason

I think Eng are overthinking this. Get your best batsmen in the side. Even if they score slow. They may not get 300 every match but will still get to defend 250-270 most times. Its better than 227 for sure.

Not playing Ballance makes no sense, he looks such a compact player.

All said and done 227 is not a piece of cake, Ind still need to bat well. Dhawan I think needs to score here.

The highlight of Eng's innings for me has to be Raydu appealing for that LBW against Cook, that was one of the most memorable appeals I have seen. Of course he did later get Cook, which is also memorable.

I mean getting out to part time spinner is one thing, but getting out to the most part time of part time bowlers is another. Raydu has kept wickets for teams in the IPL for full seasons! You cannot get more part time than that.

ya especially with the one batsman position changed, one coming in to side and two out of form, that leaves us with raina and dhoni, with jadeja and ash as addons.The pitch is giving decent turn too.
