India in England Jun-Sept 2014

We are utterly crap......we play such an old fashioned shambolic type of cricket. Awful really.....and so out of touch......

odds on someone involved with england saying that they'll "build on the positives" from this game?

I honestly think that you'll struggle with Scotland, the way that you are playing at the moment ;)

Dhawan is back in in his game, fantastic ruthless performance by india, something of a rarity.

Well that was a pretty good performance by our openers. It would have been even better to see Dhawan getting the century but it's good to see him in the runs. Rahane's inning was a pleasure to watch.

The tests and ODI's are just so vice versa. India were so bad in the tests, England vice versa in the ODI's. Its a competition as to who can play the worst ever cricket.:p

Dhawan's comeback to runs is a satisfying sign. Wish Kohli got more of a hit. But Rahane is just superb. Shami also back in his elements.

Also this might put some pressure on our previous opening combo of Rohit and Dhawan.

saying that "we've got to back our beliefs" is fine after a few unlucky losses, but after you've been thrashed in three straight ODIs, then you've got to say something else

Rahane is one positive for us from this tour. Throughout the test series, he never looked at sea against any bowler. It was disappointing that he did not kick off to achieve bigger things after that hundred at Lords. It is safe to say that we have one of our openers for the WC decided. The conditions in Aus/NZ might be different but Rahane is`nt a slogger either. Rohit will have to fight for his spot now and its going to be really interesting to see the choices we make going into the WC.

While this is nowhere close to the joy I felt as a fan after the Lords test, it is a good display nevertheless. The core of the WC squad is now in place. I would now like Sanju Samson, Karn Sharma and Yadav to get a game at Leeds. Bhuvi, Rahane and Ashwin/Jadeja can all take a break.

Having said that, England have looked clueless. Whats more worrying from the English perspective that this is almost 90% of their WC squad as well. Broad might come in for one of the seamers but I don`t see much of the personnel changing for the WC.

Looking ahead to the WC, as an Indian fan the only sides that really worry me are Aus,NZ and SA. Australia for their overall firepower. NZ for their tactical nuance, batting firepower and an underrated seam attack. SA is well, class. India would be glad that they don`t have to face SA in the Q/Fs and if we can avoid the two hosts in the Q/Fs we might well reach the semis. From then on, it really becomes a lottery.

Rahane with that technique and that kind of batting, should definitely open for us in the WC. Rohit with his fishing technique should occupy the middle order spot. Rohit can belt it in the end with Raina and Dhoni. Also with Rayudu in the mix, Rohit better stay on his toes.

Even though England looked so bad and out of depth, these crushing wins can only be got by a good ODI side. I think India are that - a good ODI side. Not sure if its the effect of the new support staff but I would definitely retain them till the WC (including Ravi Shastri; even though we will miss his firebrand commentary for the WC). Shastri is a lucky charm. He has been the commentator in all our major wins. Hope he stays!

Ye that's the unfortunate thing for both sides across the two formats. Their ineptness has masked each weaknesses & we will not know how truly good ENG test team is again until the Ashes. And IND coming off previous bashing in NZ & SA - that probably is their real level heading into the W-Cup. Although TBF to IND, you guys have shown to be a tournament team in recent ICC competitions.

Look at this stupid question, skypsorts Ian Ward asking ENG fans on twitter :facepalm

Question people. You have one choice. World Cup win in Australia this winter, or Ashes win next summer? And NO!! It's either or not both....

Going by your logic now, MS Dhoni must be fully responsible for India's success in the ODI's? He's the leader of the ship! ;)

Keeping aside our earlier argument, I'm completely in agreement with you about Rahane. I think he's an extremely gifted batsman and in my opinion, after Kohli, he's the best we've got across all formats. The reason I want to see him open and why I think he fits the bill is that he has the technique as you pointed out, but also the stroke play if needed to bat at the top. I don't think Rohit Sharma is more capable of facing the likes of Johnson, Anderson and in particular Steyn in adverse conditions.

I don't think Dhawan is back to where he was. Runs are encouraging, but he's been a yo-yo after his earlier heroics. I for the life of me can't phathom why Uthappa was given such a short rope, after a brilliant couple of seasons and the best IPL by an Indian batsman ever.

As far as Shastri goes, he's not done anything out of the ordinary. India have, will and will always be a good limited overs team as long as they keep playing the amount of cricket they do. The bonus is that Dhoni aside, this is an incredibly young yet experienced team. MSD's age has had no bearing on his form or fitness either in this format.

I repeat, like I had said in my earlier post that India is the best ODI team in the world. You can dig as many stats as you want, when it comes to majors, they're a settled and confident unit. England will struggle!
