India in England Jun-Sept 2014

The T20 world cup or ODI world cup? Cricket differs from the recently concluded world football cup since there are three different formats of cricket played!

Since following cricket I have noticed that many commentators, writers, coaches, managers and players themselves saying that test cricket is the pinnacle of cricket in general.
So much so the pinnacle of cricket that the ICC struggles to get a tournament off the ground and running for the format; 2013 - cancelled, 2017 - cancelled, I'm sure 2021 will follow suit as well.

How a Test championship didn't predate the World Cup is just beyond me.

To be fair England did suck in the first 2 matches!

What is the general thinking between India fans of what to do with Kohli? Surely he's making himself unselectable?

Its not that we have anyone better outside. Rohit Sharma scoring when it matters has`nt happened anytime in my living memory. Just hoping for Kohli to show up in the second innings. I thought he went a bit overboard with his 'I don`t have anything to prove' statement before the series began. That, for me was a bit cocky for someone on his first tour to England. Test cricket bites back at you pretty instantly when you become cocky. We`ve seen that time and again.

Dravid:
"You don't mind the odd sledging. People are getting confused about the difference between sledging and actual what is abuse here. And people have said 'oh lets move on' or 'lets walk away from this' but I think we can move on from sledging. We've been there, we've all played cricket games where you walk in and somebody uses the odd expletive when you get beaten and says 'any chance of you nicking one', you know ' your feet are stuck in cement' stuff like that. You could go on and on about stuff like that, I'm sure that's fine.

"But when you walk off the field abusing someone and making it personal, then I think that's the danger when you do cross that line and things can happen where you get physical. So you've got to be very careful when you cross that line, and sort of stay within what is acceptable behaviour."

"The message we've given out at the moment, the game has given out, is that it's okay to do this stuff [abuse], which I think is wrong. I think there needed to be some sort of action taken," Dravid told ESPNcricinfo. "Some punishments needed to be handed out.

"We all know from Bruce Oxenford's report what Jimmy [Anderson] has said, the words that he's used. That is on the report and no one is denying the fact that there was that kind of abuse and England is claiming that Jadeja turned and so we must bring that into the equation as well, but at the end of all of this, we have seen no punishments handed out."

I think this game is over for us now. For us to have a chance, we needed to get a couple very early and Dhoni`s reluctance to bowl Aaron first up has let them settle in. We are now in for a day long leather chase. What started as a promising test series is now heading downhill very fast.

Now begins what is going to be an inseparable partnership between Bell and Root. I fear its going to be like the Clarke-Ponting partnerships of 2011.

Get the fearsome tweak in, now for some short stuff at Ali's throat from Aaron.

I would argue that the pinnacle for Cricket in England is the Ashes, not the World Cup. I actually think that 50 over cricket is dead.

I think the win at Southampton was huge for the new guys' confidence. They hadn't won a test yet, remember. I still think its going to the wire, this one.

Well I am sure the Ashes feels more Important, because England have felt the Euphoria of winning an Ashes, once they win the world cup, I am sure they will realise that an Ashes doesn't come close to winning the world Cup (The 50 Overs, one). The t20 world cup is more a fan service thing than anything.

Also 50 over cricket dead ... really? All major cricket tournaments are still 50 overs ... WC, CT, Asia Cup. You are clearly taking T20 too seriously. T20 is fan service. On a tour no one even cares, what the result was in the T20 fixtures. Its always the Test series, then ODI seris and T20 series, who cares?

50 overs obviously. And yes Individually Test Cricket tests a cricketer most, but as a team, winning the 50 over World Cup is (wwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy x 10000000000) bigger than winning some random test series.

Zim, don`t worry. We will still allow you to reach a safe score of 350+ with Woakes and Root starring in a 150 run partnership.

England lead by 8, if India want to really put a positive spin to it, they can tell themselves, they were 8/4, England are 8/5 :D

We are overdoing the short stuff to Ali. Bhuvi does not have enough pace to bowl someone out with short stuff. Dhoni must get Ashwin into the attack now.

And thats how you do it ... have been super excited about Aaron from the start of the series, what a player !!

I hope this reminds people in the Indian setup how much they failed with the team selection. With all due respect to Pankaj Singh, he should never have been on that flight to England ahead of Umesh Yadav. Imagine Yadav and Aaron bowling in tandem on this track. Along with Bhuvi, Shami and Ishant they should form the nucleus of our pace attack. If we do rotate among these bowlers, our attack won`t be very friendly as it is now.

Coming back to this game. England are running away with this game now. A lead of over 30 now and with dangerous batsmen like Butler, Broad and Woakes in the lineup, the lead is easily going to surpass 150. We must somehow manage another wicket before lunch to be in the game. I would be tempted to give Jadeja a bowl here before lunch against Butler.

India bowling very well. England batting poorly. It either seems to be one way or another. 1 more wicket and India are right back in to this.
