India tour of Australia - 2018/19

This is exactly the type of post that irritates, annoys and aggravates me. Most of the reg posters here are fans of Indian cricket. It would take someone extremely stupid to 'hate' Rohit Sharma. Most of us are just frustrated that he hasn't become the test cricketer he should have. I am not someone who sees thing as black and white.. he has had some injuries, some good balls but mostly it's been his inability to control his instincts that have got him out. Any dimwit would prefer to see Sharma bat over Vihari and Nair but he's the least deserving of that spot followed by Vihari and then Nair.

Didn't say anyone over here has anything to do with it. Read a lot against Rohit after the way he performed in South Africa and few people were like why he is getting chances throw him out of the team and bring back old senior players (who too were dropped due to poor and inconsistent performances). It's just that people see him play one or two innings and say he isn't good enough but if you look into the wider aspect he hasn't got a run longer than 2-4 Tests (where others too didn't do well either). And instincts and temperament gets developed the more matches you play. Yes Vihari is talented and certainly ahead of where Rohit was in his time but at the end of the day both of them deserved equal chances. And Nair hasn't been that good either. He hasn't even scored 15 runs in innings other than his 300 also he wasn't that good a FC player as he is a List-A player. But it's a blessing in disguise for Vihari to get another chance this early :thumbs

Starc will roll out the batting if this is the track. Mind you they are playing in their home conditions. The problems are more towards their young batting skills rather than some extra genuis bowling. If they find it right on their batting and if Khawaja clicks, the story can be very different.

What track,I didn't saw any track or pitch.
It's a ground covered with grass:p

That green patch is the pitch according to Cricinfo, I seriously cannot differentiate between what is the ground and what is the pitch. Also for tomorrows match if that is the pitch, it will be a 2-3 day game. Aussies will find it tough seeing our bowling is more lethal compared to theirs.

Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins can be deadly on these tracks. They consistently bowl 140+ clicks and they will cause many issues to the Indian batting too. Really, it seems every batsman will find it tough.

Bhuvi HAS to play. This pitch could be enough to get his juices flowing with such a green track. And he is capable at batting at 8 too. Ashwin's loss might not even be felt if India bowl first on this greentop.

You're seriously underplaying their bowlers there, buddy. In fact, I would go on to say that their bowlers are a level above ours. I've feeling that Starc will bowl his heart out in this Test given that there were questions raised over his performance in Adelaide. Cummins and Hazlewood are as good as bowlers as well in their own backyard.

He gets frustrated when he is unable to score against the old ball in friendlier conditions and gets out to horrible shots. You really thing he will have the patience to stick around after having played and missed 10 deliveries in a row? He neither has the defensive game nor the temperament to survive as a Test opener (atleast not overseas). This is not ODIs where you have powerplays and free hits

Well.... Ashwin's absence is a tiny blow but seeing the pitch, the impact is negated to a good extent. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar should come in for Ashwin and Vihari for Rohit. Vihari with his off spin can be the part time backup in case it is needed (I hope it's not, seeing the pitch). It's actually better that Shaw has not recovered. I wouldn't throw him in straightaway on a pitch like that which cannot be differentiated from the rest of the ground.

If that pitch is retained, its going to be a matter of who shoots the other side out faster. And in that case, the batsmen are almost going to become almost immaterial. So the XI now looks like this (well almost...)

M Vijay
K Rahul
C Pujara
V Kohli
A Rahane
H Vihari
R Pant
B Kumar
I Sharma
M Shami
J Bumrah

How long have you followed test cricket? I am replying seriously here since I have not seen your posts before. Test opening requires a dramatically different set of skills than ODI or T20 and Rohit Sharma is NOT AT ALL possessing of those skills. Why do you think Sachin Tendulkar never opened the batting in test cricket even though he was a legendary opener in ODI's? Same reason.

Do you think Bumrah deserves a place in the team? Looking at your XI, the team is strong but Bumrah is the weak point. He is a very weak Test bowler, he is a specialist T20/IPL bowler. The likes of Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are far more effective than Bumrah in test cricket.

I don`t know how we`d fit him in but it would be really tempting to play Umesh ahead of Ishant for this test.

Ya see his career in odi in 2007-2012 At NO.6 and Now See The Improvement. Same Way In Test He Will Be Improved

Opening in tests with 3 slips, a gully and a short leg is not the same as facing some defensive bowling in ODIs on mostly flat tracks.

If he opens in Tests and then We can see whether he is fit for opening or not

Bhuvi in for Ash, Vihari in for Sharma as he can bowl a bit, i.e, if the pitch doesn't change.

Only green wickets are sporting. Turning tracks are made to suit the home team! Biggest cricket hypocrisy! The pitch in Adelaide was perfect. It had everything for everyone- batters, fast bowlers, spin bowlers.

Also, I feel Aussies pacers are more lethal than the Indian counterparts. It all comes down to who can bat longer and that decides the match.

But happy to see anything like this and not flat tracks which Aussies normally rollout.
