India tour of England 2018

The series has been lost purely because of the captaincy and the team management. Wonder if the selectors and BCCI will be bold enough to clip Kohli's wings and give Shastri and his team a far greater punishment. For India, this series was of extremely significant importance and winning this was supposed to be the 'start of correcting our series win record overseas'. And yet we have lost it, should mean that heads should roll and powers clipped.

For starters, Sanjay Bangar needs to be sacked. The batting has lost us this series and despite the improvement showed in Trent Bridge, the batting has collectively failed in this series. And again despite the improvement shown with the catching in Trent Bridge, R Sridhar also needs to go. These guys are Shastri's yes-men and now with the series lost, its the right time to show them the door. Bharat Arun could possibly escape the axe because the bowlers have been the bright spot of this series.

Kohli needs to be put on notice for the Australia tour and be told in emphatic terms that 'anything less than a series win in Australia will lead to him being sacked from the captaincy role for test cricket'. He will still continue to lead India in ODI's and T20's since the World Cup happens next year, but for test cricket, he should be sacked if he can't win us the test series in Australia this year. We've lost in both SA and England

People will rave about us winning the odd test but considering the teams SA and ENG have and the bowling attack we have, we should have won in SA and ENG!! As @SaiSrini said- Our talent is so enormous we should be winning, not competing.[DOUBLEPOST=1535906428][/DOUBLEPOST]I remember I said at the start of the series that we need to start the series with 6 batters, a keeper and 4 bowlers. This will probably be our combination in the last test! :lol

Curran is the man of the series for me.. He has owned the series with his fearless batting.. Though I did not enjoy his batting in the series as India has been on receiving end :p but I am sure in the future England series he will be the player I will be looking forward to..
Also I know that future series he might not do as well with the bat and make us all wonder how on earth did he do so against India but thats how we are successful in creating talents for other countries and making them have a good performance against India..

Overall love his approach to the game and his fearlessness should be backed and I really like how England management have made him approach his game so which has made all the difference..

On the other hand I liked how Pant played this innings as thats the kind of player he is and needs to be backed and he will mature on how to approach and which deliveries to hit with experience..

Personally not liking Mestri and management as its trying to create something we are not and losing individualistic mindsets in the process.. We have been positive in bowling but have lost way here and there which needs to be rectified as well..But batting wise the guys who play cricket on weekends would have connected the ball well , which was my feeling seeing how our batsman played in the series..

The whole series has been great challenge for the team and looking forward to last test now.. Really want the squad to be tested and modified for future series..

Congratulations to England on winning both ODI and test series..Easy to say they played better cricket..

Nair and Shaw must come in for Dhawan (Although Rahul performed poorly, his catching is the one thing that we will surely miss) and Pandya.

Perfect time to introduce Shaw to the team. Next series will be against Windies and I am sure Dhawan will get a meaningless ton there and keep his spot. So, Shaw has to come in and get adjusted before we tour Australia. I will be really unhappy if he doesn't play next match and the series against Windies. I will go one step further and say that I want to see even Mayank instead of Rahul against Windies. That's how bad Rahul has batted in this series. Never really looked comfortable. Although I highly doubt Agarwal will get a look into the team.

Even though Pant hasn't performed well, I won't mind seeing him against Windies. Need to give more time to him.

And for gods sake get Pandya out of the team. Not a batsmen nor a bowler. Get Nair in asap. Nair deserves it.

Shaw
Rahul/ Agarwal
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Nair
Pant/Saha
Ashwin
Bhuvi
Ishant
Shami

Bumrah, Jaddu and Yadav as backup bowlers. Vihari as backup batsmen. It's time the selectors stop dreaming and make some challenging decisions. And seeing how we play Windies, it's perfect time to make these changes.

If the top order and Rahane are performing well, maybe we can try an all rounder. But who is there ? Can Vijay Shankar be a good choice ? No idea how his domestic records are. Only thing I remember is his T20 match against Bangladesh.

I repeat once again that Shaw has to come.

PS: This is not a rant from the series defeat but some logical changes that must happen.

Oh. And congrats to English fans. Sam Curran is the main reason for this win. Happy for the young lad.

**later on it was confirmed asprin was right in stating no attempt at reverse psychology as England beat India in the 2018 test series 4-1. Kohli was stripped of captaincy and Shastri reinstated as opening batsman**

@asprin this prophecy could yet still be fulfilled on all counts :p

I understand that India supporters will feel that some in the side have under-performed and this is no doubt true but I wouldn’t want to take anything away from an England side that has shown masses of character at a time that everyone seems to be keen on bashing them......well done England I say: Lets use this as a jumping block to better things!

I am sure many Indian fans outside this forum (this forum has a lot more saner people than outside, though some non-Indians here might find even that laughable :D ) will say "Edgabston and Southampton was very close and we won comprehensively at Trent Bridge, and so we fought hard and should treat it as something better than what Dhoni's side achieved in 2014".

According to me, this excuse would be total rubbish. First of all, this India side had all the resources to inflict a series defeat on England. Second, England were themselves in a hole as far as their test form was concerned and were grappling with a lot of issues themselves. Despite the home advantage for them, we played the T20's and ODI's first to get used to the conditions. Everything was loaded supremely in India's favor and yet India managed to lose this series 3-1 with one test still to go. To me, this is a HUMILIATION and should be treated like one. I would lose further interest in following Indian cricket if Mr. Kohli continues to enjoy the same powers that he currently wields in Indian cricket. In the past, many a captain of India have been sacked after series defeats overseas. Kohli might not receive that treatment immediately but should definitely get it if we dont beat Australia in Australia. Also Kohli's role in the ouster of Anil Kumble, under whom we got onto a great run in tests and were ready to take on the overseas challenges, should now be brought back square into the limelight and that should be a significant blot in the results he has achieved so far.

It's not like we dont have options. Rahane, Pujara and Ashwin are capable leaders if given the opportunity.

Woah... I think I am probably getting too old for this generation's thinking. This post-match interview of Kohli has gotten on my nerves very badly
http://www.espncricinfo.com/video/clip?id=24557685

I can't believe I am hearing the captain say "I cant think of too many negatives for India". The perennial and biggest negative of not being able to close out the lower order/tail, the repeated failure of the openers, the selections of inexperienced and out of character players for India's lower order. These are all not negatives? And after a second consecutive overseas series defeat (out of the 3 that we are expected to play in a cluster), an attitude of "we didn't do anything wrong, they were just better" sounds so wrong to me. Maybe I am wrong and maybe I am old school, but this attitude just doesn't sit with me.

Only 2 main things to point out from this test:
first is the difference in the bowling of moeen ali and ashwin
Ashwin should be disgusted at himself seeing how moeen was able to trouble the best batsmen in the world and seeing how he himself was not even able to get a 19 year old out , forget about troubling the english batting lineup on a turning pitch and being a veteran who has taken 300+ wickets
Second was definitely the difference in the lower order batting of both teams.
As an Indian I was ashamed to see how illogical was our lower order batting
It is not a given that if you are young and in your early 20s then you cant bat logically and should get away with it as well just bcoz you are inexperienced
Dude , you are putting the whole series on the line with your batting failures in both the innings.Doesnt it hurt ur ego
Pandya and Pant were not even understanding the importance of playing according to the situation
Just coming out and playing shots like fools.
Had they batted sensibly in the first innings we would have had a lead of atleast 100 or more than that
And then there is a 19 year old boy of England who has already shown how to play with the tail and also how to play with a senior player and string a partnership.
completely understanding the match situation.
Funny part about this series is again we have lost a series bcoz of wrong team selection
Happened in SA and now in ENG too.
they keep giving endless chances to dhawan no matter whosoever comes and goes in the team.
They keep pulling pujara and rahane in and out of the team and making them nervous about their position in the team.
They just cant get this thing in their head that every time when they will tour overseas someone in the team will be new to those conditions.
They cant keep on saying that next time we will surely do well bcoz an experienced team will be touring there.
How can they predict who will be playing in the next test series which is 2-3 years down the line
Ravi shastri said before the SA series that the next 1-2 years will define our test cricket.
Well we have already lost SA series without a decider.
We lost 2-0 and then made it 2-1
And we have lost the ENG series as well without a decider.
Its 3-1 and can be 4-1 or 3-2 , doesn't matter one bit
What is still left?
To lose the upcoming AUS series and then the NZ one.
We are on the right path.
And I want to see what will our dear coach ravi shastri say after the NZ series.
It will be a hilarious moment if he says that next time when we tour we will surely win atleast one test series bcoz we will have an experienced team by that time
If you are a no.1 team then its not just about giving a tough fight and just brag about it.
Even west indies gave a tough fight to england when they came here recently and also won a test match.
What is the difference then.
If you really want to show what no.1 means then do it like the Australians did in the 90s and post 2000 era with warne , mcgrath and lee, do it like south africans did in graeme smith's captaincy where they had a record of not losing a single overseas series for a couple of years or so.
Every team is no.1 on their home turf. But winning away from home is what separates the best teams from the good ones.
I would be fed up after this series if I hear someone say in the press conference that we are the no.1 test team in the world and we have proved that.
After this series loss the whole cricketing fraternity will understand that test rankings are just numbers and not the real indicator.
If you want to know the reality then watch the damn game and forget the numbers.

I think I'd give Shaw a go alongside Rahul in the last test. Pujara, Kohli, Rahane and Nair to follow. Pant at 7. Jadeja would be my spinner and the same three quicks unless Bhuvi is fit.

I think playing Kuldeep at Lord's was daft and he should have played here. May be, even at the oval if it's dry.

Selection has been horrible right through but Kohli is in my mind one of the greatest batsman of all time for India. At this point in his career, he's better than even Tendulkar.

Presume you are talking only stats wise? If so stats are not full picture surely and curious how many other Indian supporters feel the same way?

Of course he's not talking statswise, statswise Tendulkar is all but unbeatable.

I don't give a rat's puny about stats. Never have, never will. He has this unbelievable habit of making runs when the country needs it most. Also, he's standing amongst a lot of ruins while Sachin had a batting line up India never had or will have to support him. In limited overs, I already believe Dhoni and Kohli have won us more games than he ever did.

The only thing that amazes me is how can someone who reads the game so outstandingly with bat in hand be so poor in the field. A leader he is not, that was known the day Kumble went. The thing that is most fascinating about our away losses recently are we would have won because of his brilliance and are losing because of his sheer stupidity.

yeah exactly , what a dumb thing to say that he cant see too many negatives. hahahahahaha . delusional or what. wins one test and he starts thinking woohoo mission accomplished. and that is why india will never succeed away. Australia will smash them. despite being without smith and warner
