India tour of New Zealand 2020 - 5 T20Is, 3 ODIs, 2 Tests

I think the team combination for a change is on the money. I think this should be our approach in SENA conditions. Not sure about Ashwin ahead of Jadeja. I bet you if I were Saha or Pant I wouldn't have a clue what's going on and now coming to the crux of the matter-

There is a wealth of batting talent in our country. There is also this pathetic lust to live in the past and instead of calling Pujara a Pujara, often things like 'next wall' or 'next Dravid' are thrown about. (just sighting an example)

From the moment I've seen Shaw bat, I've said that he's not ready. I'm an MSD fan so any lectures on technique would be rich but you need some sort of it to play the new ball in these conditions. If you notice, Shaw's right foot has an itch to go away from the leg stump to allow him to play through the off side. He's a short stalky chap so I think he could pull but I bet his technique is basically built around playing through the off side and he's always going to be a fierce cutter.

Unfortunately, cover driving is perhaps the greatest risk in the first session of the first test. Sehwag's don't happen everyday and he too had his share of inconsistency in these conditions. This was a golden opportunity to reward Rahul and he absolutely has the technique to bat anywhere in the world.

Vihari can score all he likes on the dust bowls but if he's going to feel scared to get on the front foot here then he's not making very many runs. His dismissal was the most telling as he was simply hanging back for the bumper. Just poor! Kohli got out a lot like I'd have expected Rohit to get out. Just a nothing shot to a ball that deserved to be just thrown back and re-bowled. Careless shot from a skipper and the best batter in the side.

Actually, I'd love to captain against Shaw.

Have any swing bowler from NZ bowl (I think CDG will eat him alive), have a short mid wicket catching, leave cover open and a packed slip cordon with a deep point.

He could hole out at that deep point, he could flick one to short mid and he might hit me for 5-6 boundaries but if it's swinging he will eventually nick off. If not, he's also a prime candidate to get out lbw against an in swinger.

Just don't see him having the game at this present moment to open the batting, not for India in the very least.

Might be a bit early but looks like we are heading towards an innings defeat.

Too easy at the moment - boundary scored off almost every over apart from Ishant the others looked lackluster on a wicket that is getting flatter as the match progresses.

You don’t feel NZ are in the ascendancy?
Hence in New Zealand (for Tests),
India = England if we consider the performance in their first test here from 2019.[DOUBLEPOST=1582373739][/DOUBLEPOST]Lovely from India. Should have played Jaddu as he would have done something for sure.

This match is gone most likely so for future matches,
Agarwal
Easwaran/Panchal
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Jadeja/Vihari/Gill
Pant/Saha
Ashwin
Ishant
Shami
Bumrah

They are not even in the 15 member squad so how will they be available ?[DOUBLEPOST=1582375610][/DOUBLEPOST]

If India can bowl New Zealand out under 250 which is still possible as they are 5 down, they could gain control. I felt the pitch have flatenned out marginally. Still a lot is left in this match.

For the next series or future
Don't think there was any problem with the team selection this time. It was rather the way they played. Senior players like Pujara and Kohli threw their wickets away. Pujara's dismissal could still be excused as he was trying to spend some time out there. Kohli's dismissal was worth to be criticized. It does often happens with him when he is playing well and is looking difficult to get out.

1. First test in South Africa tour back in 2018, Morne Morkel was in the middle of a great spell and he bowled a short one to Kohli early on in his innings and he didn't really came in good position to play that ball.

2. When we toured England in Lord's test he went at an delivery that was way too wide and fell to Woakes being caught at slip.

3. Similar dismissal happened in our tour down under when in the Adelaide Test Kohli got out to I guess Josh Hazelwood.

From 225-7 NZ scored 348 the tail wagged again it doesn't matter who the opposition is now the last 4 tail enders scoring runs is a very familiar sight.
