India tour of New Zealand - Jan to Feb 2014

For anyone who wanted to hear the comments I said Doull made its here, not sure whether you could listen to it outside of NZ though, can someone check??

Simon Doull: Windies tour & boxing with Cairnsy - On Demand Player - Radio Sport - New Zealand's Premier Sports Station

Also I think a lot of Indian fans are underestimating just how good our bowling attack is (when a lot of you say theres no Bond), a lot hinges on Vettori being available but Southee and Boult are probably the 2nd or 3rd best opening duo in the world. They've also both taken a lot of their wickets on flat pitches.

Yea it can heard in my area of ENG. Its notable how Doull right way just plainly said that if coach Hesson wish to have green tops happens - NZC will loose a lot of money.

As been discussed its a disappointing state of affairs - that NZ simple cricket aim to just have conditions to have optimum home advantage is going to usurped by off field dynamics.

Yep, its a shame really. Doull has been a commentator at every IPL and Champions League so far and knows how important it is to keep the BCCI happy. I'm just kind of surprised he was so upfront about what he said, probably no need to worry when its on a local radio station though.

I think this may be the last series of MS Dhoni as the test captain.
His captaincy in test matches, especially overseas has been terrible.

A good player in ODIs and T20s but very disappointing in tests. Dhoni just hasn't got it in himself now for test cricket. His personal batting form has been horrendous too.

Good Joke..:lol

He will be captain, till 2019 World Cup, in all formats.

If that were to happen which I very highly doubt, who would take over? Kohli?

Are you kidding? Dhoni is already nearing 33, and will be 38 in 2019. Definitely Dhoni wont last till then.

I actually agree with Yudi that Dhoni needs to go from the test side. He's a legend as far as the shorter formats go, but in testsm he's exposed and cant do much.

I remember Dhoni making a statement some years back, not sure in a serious manner or just for fun but i remember he said something like he will retire from test cricket in 2013 and continue playing ODI and T20 for much more time. Actually this would really suit him. Dhoni can play test cricket in Indian tracks but almost everyone including bowlers can do that, so i seriously feel MSD should call it a day as far as tests is concerned. I have always loved MSD but never a fan of MSD-The test cricketer.

On the other hand, it seems very likely that Sehwag's career is coming to an abrupt end. He is really struggling. Even Gambhir for that matter is struggling badly in the domestic too. Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj- end of the road?

I am looking forward to Sturat Binny. He has been an utility player for Rajasthan in a couple of IPL seasons, agree its a totally different ball game but if you look back Roger Binny was a very succesful bowler in foreign conditions who was a very mediocre bowler in indian conditions. I hope Binny Jr. has some genes of his dad and can bowl well in the Kiwi conditions. The only wish i have is Binny Jr. however exceptional he plays in ODIs should not make a test debut. Please spare test matches! I already cant dare to see Raina play test matches.

Sehwag is pretty much done but I see Gambhir making a comeback.

It is pretty sad actually to see Viru struggling in domestic arena, I couldn't recollect any batsman( including curent members ) with capability to score 300+ so fluently for India! But at end of the day, it is survival of the fittest.

Small grounds of NZ definitely miss our big hitters like Yuvi & Viru, if and only if they had been in their prime form.

Pretty much agree that Dhoni needs to retire from Test cricket. Not only his batting, but also his captaincy is poor. His temperament is not suited for the long innings required of Test cricket and it's obvious that he is making too big an attempt to change his natural game and failing at that. His footwork is awful for tracks that provide movement off the seam or when the ball is swinging around.

On the other hand, his captaincy is also questionable in my view. He is just too negative, especially overseas: he retreats from the game very early on when India doesn't dominate and gives the opposition a whiff of blood, going for the kill. We need somebody with the aggression like Virat Kohli to take over.

Dhoni is and always was a flat track bully when it comes to Tests, and I really don't see much wrong with that, especially for someone who plays the role of the wicket-keeper in a side with 6 specialist batsmen, and as far as his captaincy goes, I'm torn, I seem to always be blaming our bowling side more for our downfall than the captain.

What are those stats btw, Tests, ODIs and T20Is?

Remember reading a piece I don't know where exactly, but the author was basically of the notion that by keeping Pujara away from the ODI setup and sending him on countless A tours as captain, the selectors were grooming him to takeover from Dhoni on the Test side of things, which I thought was quite interesting...

That's what I would wish for. Pujara for tests and Kohli for ODIs and T20s is the perfect combo for the future. But I think it's too early for Pujara right now. Maybe Kohli can lead the test side for a year or two and then Pujara takes over.

Just wondering who you guys think would be a better option than Dhoni? The last time I remember someone keeping instead of him was Saha I think, and that was a while ago.
