India tour of New Zealand - Jan to Feb 2014

I don't know who's more annoying- ATMega169P for being a sore loser, or Biggs for being a royal asshat.

I do see Epic's point that just because India doesn't have DRS doesn't mean India deserves to have decisions go against them. However, at the same time, not as many decisions would go against them if they just accepted DRS. It is not a perfect system, but it is statistically, and objectively proven to be more accurate than a non-DRS system.

What's a Bangladesh? ;)

EDIT:

Fact Checks for you Mega; India in their last 10 away test series have not won a single match. Not one. Before you start labeling better teams as cheats, maybe take a close look at the facts. Hopefully it takes a good ol' schlocking from a "second tier" test nation to humble up the BCCI and make them realize they a) don't rule world cricket and b) don't get to decide who wins before a series starts. "Rankings" are meaningless. Best team wins on the day. India turned up treating this series as a joke, have been beaten and humbled every step of the way.

This is wonderful thing for Test cricket, whether you realize it or not. Enjoy your IPL's, we'll take the moral and physical international victories against a bullying cashed-up cricketing nation who can't win a match that doesn't involve guns for hire from around the world to bulk up a corrupt domestic 20/20 competition that's ruining young, test players all over the world.

West Indies, Bangladesh, South Africa and Sri Lanka are all on the phone to NZ right now thanking us for reminding the world any side can beat anyone.

That's the way cricket should be.

At the end of the day we have loosed it. NZ's first innings and our weak answer to it was enough to said that. Still I expected stupidly a bollywood/hollywood style comeback at the end. Batting and Bowling in second inning was fantastic in comparing rest of the tour. Well, not sure whether it would be continued or not in second match. Can't believe now. NZ beaten the top sides and defeated from a weak side than them. They are totally unpredictable at the moment. India can do much better at home only. Hope we'll show great spirit in next match. You need to win it guys, Come on! :thumbs And yeah, great day for test match as well with those up and down possibilities.

[Thanks to broadcasters for not including WASP thingy this time.:p]

New Zealand have obviously been a better team. Be it ODI's where they stopped Kohli's second innings spectacular run , the first, or be it here, dismissing Pujara in both innings cheaply, a rare sight again!

Our batting was hopeless in the first innings barring Rohit Sharma's knock, and bowlers looked clueless after restricting them to 30/3. So it was basically the second innings where we showed some fight. But tbh, batsmen are all to blame for.

Also tbf, New Zealand bowling fast bowling attack is really good, if not at par with the best.

People will criticise the decisions which went against their teams, only to prove a worthless point and bring forward the DRS discussions. Some decisions were bad, some were fine, some being absolutely fantastic.

In the end, what a game of cricket :clap That's what matters. Hope to see another thriller.

Well played New Zealand. They somehow sneaked through after they nearly made a mess of epic proportions. To give a side like India 407 to chase with more than 2 days to go was very risky, and they nearly paid the price for it. Not enforcing the follow-on was not a good decision. You can't let a few rare out of the world results (like the India vs Aus 2001 Kolkata test) in the past to influence your future decisions. But, NZ were the better team overall in this test match, and won the crucial moments.

India's poor bowling on Day 1 (and in NZ's 1st innings) lost the game for us more than our first innings batting. We definitely looked like we could have won the game today, but again irresponsible shots led to our downfall. But in a way, I am optimistic of our batsmen learning from all these overseas experience. Our batsmen have shown enough promise in these three overseas test matches recently (2 vs SA, this one vs NZ) to make us think that Indian batting has a potentially bright future. Persistence with this bunch will most definitely yield good results.

Its our bowling which needs work. And big work at that!

I regret not staying up to witness the seesaw-ing moments. Test cricket at it's best.

NZ fans are disgusting over this. Every time Indian cricket fans say something in defence of their team, they raise the BCCI Bogey.

Nonsense. We're the most cash rich cricket nation in the world. And we deserve a bigger voice in the ICC than it was earlier. If you want to boycott the IPL you're welcome to do it. And if you think the ICC is flawed, then welcome to boycott Indian team tours as well. Hypocritical cricket boards around the world want the money but bad-mouth the BCCI at the same time.

None of this has anything to do with India's poor performance in NZ. Dhoni's overseas record is shocking and NZ played well in their home condtions.

Congratulations to the winners.

I slept at 1 am .. and just when I was about to sleep , I remembered that the match starts at 3.30 am , got to sleep and woke up at 6 , almost missed the alarm (like yesterday when I thought I will nod off for 5 mins after turning of the alarm , and I slept till 9 and missed all the good stuff) .

Again , an awesome test match , NZ got wickets at crucial times which is why they won it , but India also fought well and credit should be given to them where it is due ...

Is there any effort at all to improve the quality of umpiring standards among umpires? Is there a system in place to evaluate umpires performance and if it is, how effective are they?

Maybe we can start looking to the enhancement of the decision making process of the umpire, and if necessary, work on methods to enhance their performance on field. Until some other technology better than the DRS is found, we can atleast improve the umpire.

It wasn't really all that close. Our tail enders are notorious for their poor skills with the bat. Once Jadeja was out with more than 80 runs to get, it was going to be hard, hard work for Dhoni and Zaheer didn't really inspire confidence, even though he flailed the bat a few times to get boundaries.

Cloning Taufel doesn't mean anything, its not a perfect solution. The question over other's quality will not be changed. I remember there was some talks about 'HD glasses or goggles' happened in newspapers and news channels. Is that true? And how much would it help an umpire to make decisions?

If I have to be totally objective, this Indian team isn't hard to beat overseas for teams that are reasonably competitive in their bowling unit. Our batting is strong but not really formidable as yet, with quite a few young batsmen still to find their feet entirely in overseas conditions. Then our seam bowling is weaker than most attacks around the world especially when our spin is negated. Zaheer is in his twilight and Ishant is inconsistent. With the exception of Shami, no fast bowler from India has inspired a lot of confidence. Our tail enders are incapable of holding one end up under any circumstances and we are prone to big collapses when our top order fails.

What do we really expect?

Of course, it suits the overseas teams to hype up the indian batting because it makes their team look so much stronger when they win.

I had already suggested that the short term remedy is to retire Dhoni from Test cricket and get a captain who really wants to be out there and compete over 5 days. Dhoni looks positive only in a ODI situation, even in a Test. Over the long term, we need a domestic cricket structure that produces quality fast bowling and batsmen who can stand up to pace and bounce.
