Like how Sanjay and Ravi Shastri were pointing out, the pitch which India played yesterday was a typical Kiwish pitch. The way it looked it surprised the Indian batsmen with seam and movement.. Remember in SA? We struggled against quality pace on those kind of tracks.

So I am afraid, if NZ are going to select such pitches like yesterday, we can expect the result in 4 days too. So I am still keeping the fingers crossed. :upray Playing on flat tracks and winning it is not a problem... but giving them a tough competition in all kind of tracks is what you call it a 'Quality!'.

You can expect a result in 4 days as we did at Jo`burg in 06 and Perth in 08 and there is a decent possibility of it being in India`s favor. You still seem to be stuck in the 90s mindset where an away game would mean a defeat in all likelihood. This is a side with a different mindset as you saw in the ODI series, even in seamer friendly conditions. If the conditions in the test series are similar to what we saw at Auckland, the Indian bowling attack would be quite a handful for the Kiwi batsmen.

When did we dominate the Kiwis on a seamer friendly track? I only can remember dominating the tracks which is batsman friendly and struggled to the core on typical kiwish pitch.

You cannot argue just because we won 3-1 in ODI. If you had watched the full match yesterday, you would have understood what I am talking about. There was a good debate between Sanjay Manjrekar, Ravi Shastri and Charu Sharma regarding how India can survive if the tracks chosen for test match is similar to their last ODI game. It's gonna be tough for India is what they felt.

You cannot deny the facts. I know it's not a team which was in 90's, it has taken a new shape :) But the consistency on foreign conditions is yet to be tested! Lets see :onpc

Me thinks Dravid should come back in place for Rohit Sharma. I miss his solidarity.

Dravid coming back to the ODI team is simply a step in the wrong direction. All we really need to do is drop Pretender Sharma and get someone else in, anyone else.

We have won in seamer friendly conditions in England, West Indies and South Africa (Jo'burg was seamer friendly for the most part).

IMO, India will manage quite well with the batting in the tests if its seamer friendly. Sachin and Laxman are very well equipped and on form too. Dravid has had an international hundred at Mohali and has started this NZ tour with a hundred in the warm up game. He is the best ever player for seaming conditions. Sehwag can bat in all types of conditions since his aim is to give a quickfire start. Gambhir is the tricky part, but he will be tested and we will see how he copes. Dhoni must be wiser from his experience in Australia where he failed badly. Yuvraj, ??????

Regarding bowling, no need to say anything. Zaheer and Ishant should relish it if the conditions are seamer friendly. If they pick Balaji, he should relish the conditons too (in fact should help him since he is coming back from injury; I know ur hatred for Balaji). Spinners might not get much purchase but when the seamers are doing it, why worry? Even in seamer friendly conditions, India are the favorites.

True! I would instead go for Badrinath or Cheteshwar Pujara (tough to see him not on for the tests here in NZ)

The answer.

Virender Sehwag
Gautam Gambhir
Suresh Raina
Yuvraj Singh
Subramanium Godinath
MS Dhoni
Yusuf Pathan

What a lineup

Well Rohit Sharma is in for Tendulkar. This is obviously considering that Sachin is being rested, as he is usually for 40% of any series.

I agree with deerkick, Dravid coming in is a step in the wrong direction. India have gone with a policy of youth, exuberance and good fielding over the old guard of Ganguly and Dravid. Rohit is an interesting case, because the talent is obvious to all and he showed his talent in the IPL but he can't seem to convert to ODI cricket, yet.

I feel they should try out Badri in place of Rohit. Badri is an even better fielder than Rohit (who is a brilliant fielder) and Badri is a much better technically sound batsman who is not afraid to hit the big shots if needed (he showed that in the IPL for CSK).

Badri could possibly captain India one day (he has that capability). But if he is not brought in within the next year, he can kiss his dreams of becoming a top player for India goodbye.

Hopefully a good/close test series..
ODI's were great to watch, and i am glad the NZ team saved face in the final ODI.

*whoosh*.

:p

When did you change your supporting player from Karthik to Badrinath? " Karthik is a legend! " is what I remember you saying some time back ;)

We have won in seamer friendly conditions in England, West Indies and South Africa (Jo'burg was seamer friendly for the most part).

Hopefully, we can do the same on Kiwiland as well. I am keeping my fingers crossed until i see the surface of the pitch.

The test match starts @ 3.15 as per Indian's time. whooops, I have to keep alarm and get up. Its too tough! May be I will stay overnight in office and will come @ 3 to home :p Lets see.

And regarding Rohit Sharma, I still believe he has plenty of cricket left with him. The way he played with Sachin in CB series makes me to have belief in him still. Com'on guys, he may be in bad form but we cannot tolerate another talented player getting rusted like Irfan Pathan  I would also like to see Badri in the team as well.

My 11.

McIntosh
Guptill
Flynn
Taylor
Ryder
McCullum
Franklin
Vettori
Mills
O'Brien
Martin

I would use Patel over Martin if the pitch looked like it would offer lots of spin. I think India could fall into the same trap as they did with Krejza with Patel and over-attack him getting themselves out.
