India tour of South Africa

IDK why people are saying that ind cant chase 300+ against SA?
  • Fragile batting lineup
  • Too much reliance on Kohli and to some extent Vijay/Pujara
  • Pitted against an ever-threatening bowling attack
  • Poor overseas record
  • Too much reliance on Kohli and to some extent Vijay/Pujara
  • Because, it's India

Take your pick (was kidding about the last one though)

Because its bloody tough chasing 300 on a 4th/5th day track against a quality pace attack! 287 is 50 runs too many. That is what will be the margin of defeat. To have any shot at getting close, the openers and Pujara have to get half the runs. Dont't expect Kohli to do it all the time for you.
+1.
Don't think we can chase this one the batting lineup needs to do something extraordinary to get anywhere near the target against a very good SA attack on a day 4 and 5 pitch.

Post of the year award!

80-20 for South Africa!
98-2.

As I mentioned previosly, anything over 220 will be too much, it well 66 over that. At the max expect India to get about 245-260.

287 in the final innings is a mighty ask with a full batting lineup. What we have is 4 batsmen and a half. India would rather tell guys like Pandya to play like its an ODI chase. Draw is the least probable result here. However, given that this is largely a docile track, our seamers have done reasonably well to keep us in the game. In fact, thr bowling has given us a shot at winning in both the games. I don't remember us getting 200ish targets in SA in 2 consecutive games ever. If we want to call ourselves a top side, we've got to convert these to wins more often. However, we might rue the suicidal runouts in the first innings barring which we could've had a huge shot at a big lead. From my cricket watching experience, big first innings leads win you tests overseas more than anything else. Home sides are more likely to mount comebacks than away sides.

Slept late! Looks like I missed out on some good bowling or poor batting?

287 is quite possible for India to make but they are facing a quality pace lineup! They’ll fancy their chances though if Kohli stucks in he can singlehandedly win this game.

I predict Morkel and Maharaj to wreck havoc here. India would have loved the fear factor of someone like Sehwag at the top. Barring Rahul, we dont have a free flowing batsman in the top 3. That more often than not means that Kohli walks in to bat at 20 or 40/2.[DOUBLEPOST=1516112761][/DOUBLEPOST]The guys who have got runs this series have all been stroke players. I agree with Kohli's mantra of intent but Im afraid most of this lineup does not have the skills to score quickly without being reckless. Guys like VVS, SRT and Dravid were effective in scoring fast enough without risk.

Call me optimistic but I feel we're winning this one.

Rahul is the key here. If he gets 20 runs, he can go and make a big one. He has starting problem. Once he settles, he is dangerous.

This game can go any way. Need to get Kohli early

That Vijay dismissal was bad. We needed a good start a very good one. Now we have lost one wicket and back to starts we always had.

It's a monumental ask at the moment for India to win this one, especially with the ball staying low like the wicket of Vijay. SA must patiently bowl out swingers on the off stump anticipating an edge with the occasional in swinger.
My prediction at close of day 4 : IND 60/3

Your prediction is reasonable and I can see India 60/3 as we are already 16/2 :p
