India tour of Zimbabwe(over and can be closed)

Dint expect the Minnows to show this much maturity. They have improved certainly.I feel that they need someone like Heath Streak or Flower Brothers to guide them now, with Andy busy in England,i think the other one Grant must find some role in the team. That would make them much better.

Chigumbura playing really well, If Zimbabwe can get to 240 then they have done really well considering the slow start.

Grant Flower is the batting coach. Heath Streak was bowling coach, but they couldn't pay him. He's there to help them if they need him though, plus he's running an academy for juniors. Gary Brent is doing the bowling coach duties at the moment for free, during the off-season.

Great batting from Raza & Chigumbura. Raza sounds like a great bloke & very intelligent, nearly became a pilot. pleased to see him do well.

We've managed to dismiss Dhawan cheaply, would be nice if we got a few more before they reach our target. :)

Sorry,i was unaware about the batting coach being Grant Flower.I am not really following the sport like before. And yes if they cant spend much for Streak, they can rope in people like Andy Blignaut too..he was a very good cricketer at one point of time.Zimbabwe team needs some intense training, the players look very committed indeed.:thumbs

Rohit gone but Kohli is the big wicket Zimbabwe need. Will be intresting to see how Utseya & Mutombodzi bowl in tandem together.

So as usual from Kohli. Another ODI century by him and leading the team from the front. It is also so good to see Raydu playing well and getting a half century on his ODI debut. Well this is not a good performance by Zimbabwe in bowling, if they bowl like this than this series won' be as interesting as I thought about it.

Kohli's 15th century in 109 matches,Viru took 251 matches and Youhana took 288 matches.

Second as the skipper.

As expected, Kohli gives preference to RCB's Unadkat over Mohit Sharma. So people who blamed Dhoni for giving preference to CSK players, well you have two RCB players under Kohli's captaincy

Good win though for India. Especially heart warming to see Rayudu bat well. He needs more games and more confidence through good scores for him to work towards cementing place in the side. Pujara should get his chance soon too.

Drop Raina for the second match, bring in Pujara.Simple!

Not because Raina scored a 0 today but we need to experiment with Pujara.

So as soon as we have Dhoni back in the middle order, this is the reserve list for middle order.

Ambati Raydu
Cheteshwar Pujara
Manoj Tiwary
Yuvraj Singh

Ambati Raydu looked very solid out there today so I hope he can continue his performance like this and grab this opportunity given to him. We have seen Cheteshhwar Pujara in the tests before and know he can be very solid bat in the middle order. Manoj Tiwary is also a very good player if he can avoid his injuries. I don't know why but I still feel Yuvraj Singh is still good for ODI team. When he is completely fit, he is very hard to ignore for limited overs format. So the middle order reserve list looks good to me. Even though both Raydu and Tiwary have to still prove themselves by performing consistently as International level, I think they are good enough to do so.

----------

For the openers reserve list, we have the likes of:

Ajinkya Rahane
Murli Vijay
Abhinav Mukund
Gautam Gambhir

Ajinkya Rahane has opened for India before in limited overs and is very talented as we all know so he has to be there. I am really not sure about Murli Vijay because I have never liked his style of batting. He is too slow for ODI's but seems like Dhoni have him in his list for reserve opener so can't do anything about it. I just checked Abhinav Mukund's record and he has a pretty good record as an opener with an average of about 49 which makes him a contender in this list. As I have said about Yuvraj, I still think Gambhir can still come back in the team and contribute to the Indian team.

----------

Reserve team:

Gambhir
Rahane
Pujara
Tiwary
Yuvraj
Raydu
Karthik
Amit Mishra
Varun Aaron
Praveen Kumar
Parvinder Awana

This looks pretty good team as well.

You want Gambhir and Yuvraj in the reserve but not Sehwag?

:ind: wins the game very comprehensively but good fight showed by :zim: and also well played ambati rayudu.

You did need to quote the whole post but yeh I obviously thought about him as well. He can obviously come back but he needs to show that he is in form at domestic level. I also don't think he is in selectors radar anymore. In the probable name for the recently concluded tri-series, they had Gautam Gabhir in the list but Shewag was not even there in 21 member list. Yuvraj and Zaheer are currently training with a personal trainer and it is definately hard to ignore Yuvraj at his full fitness because he has been one of the biggest match winner for India in the ICC tournaments. Sehwag can certainly come back but looking at his age and form, I am not too convinced about his case.

Mutombodzi did not impress me at all today, I would bring Cremer back in for the next game.

Waller once again fails, If only Ervine was available.

Well, what?:rolleyes
It was quite clear as a selection, even if Dhoni was the captain. Unadkat has a played an International Test before, and as for Mohit Sharma, I mean who is he even? How well has he done in the domestic circuit before? Unadkat has been in the fray, no matter how bad he is/was, but he's been decent in the domestic.

PS- I'm not saying Unadkat should be always in or whatever, I don't rate him as a good bowler either, but just that I didn't understand how can you infer without a clue that Kohli preferred RCB guys?
