India not doing upto their standards...batting is letting them down.......bowlers are doing ok but...still they should do better (batsman).....SL have upper hand on the series....they will be touring to India soon...

India has to improve in every department inorder to do reach final and do well in the final.

:cheers

I don't think India will have too much trouble reaching the final and I doubt a full-strength West Indian team would walk over India and Sri Lanka in the subcontinent. They don't even have a decent spinner.

I have been watching the whole series so far and I would say India and Sri Lanka look the best sides for the final. We all know it.. But the thing is, the contest between India and Sri Lanka is heating up greatly and we are all going to witness a terrific clash in the final between them (hopefully India beats the Windies next game!). Here are my positives & negatives for India this series

POSITIVES:

Rahul Dravid's captaincy - He has been very aggressive and attacking. He was instrumental in India cramping Sri Lanka to 95/6. Or else, it would have been a very bad defeat.

Newcomers - Suresh Raina and Rao are very promising this tour! Raina has effected three run outs in three matches! His batting was crisp (not withstanding those dropped chances!). Rao was fantastic in that first match.

Ganguly's coming back to form - Slow or not, Ganguly is back in form for India in international cricket! That 51 is going to do him a lot of good. And who the hell said that the wicket is easy to bat on? It was two paced and the wind played a great factor. Dambulla is always a low scoring ground! So Ganguly's innings was very good.

Indian Bowling: The Indian bowling this tournament is a revelation. They have been very tight (except for Bhajji in the last match against Sri Lanka!). Pathan, Zaheer, Nehra and Balaji have all bowled very well. Now Kumble needs to be brought in to give some competition for Bhajji so that he tightens up more too!

NEGATIVES:

Yuvraj & Kaif's batting: What is Yuvraj still doing out there? He is now a liability in the team. He has been more out of form that in form! He needs a kick on his back! Kaif needs to be brought up the order when batting first. It was due to him that India couldnt score much in the final overs. He is not a hitter!

Inability to finish off: This problem still persists. Chappell needs a serious look at this! India after bringing SL down to 95/6 ideally should have finished this off! Instead they let them off the hook. You cant become the best if you cant finish it off.

Team selection: What the hell is Kumble doing out there in the bench? Why is he dropped? When is Dravid or Chappell finally going to give up and pick 5 bowlers (or 4 bowlers and an all rounder!). If Raina is an all rounder, why not give him the ball instead of Sehwag? Ganguly cant be faulted in the previous game because he is normally a good bowler with nearly 100 wickets to his name. But Sehwag was awful totally with the ball! Give it to Raina or bring in Yadav instead of Laxman and make it 4 bowlers and an all rounder!

I think India shouldnt have too many problems against the Windies (surprise can happen especially after Bangladesh beat Aussies but I hope India will win easily!). India should now use the next match against the Windies to sort out their flaws and get ready for the big clash on August 9th. They havent been too bad this series. Its just that a few players from Lanka have outperformed them. They have run the Lankans too close. The first match, it needed a Jayasuriya to win. the second one, India were truly on top until Jayawardena and Chandana turned it. I think Sri Lanka might have peaked too early. Its now time for India to bring them back to the earth with a thud. Jayasuriya, Vaas and Muralitharan will be back for the final. Its going to be a big challenge. A challenge that top quality sides normally relish. I am waiting for a mouth watering final between India and Sri Lanka and this time, India has to deliver the knock out punch that they should fine tune during the West Indies match.

Why not take a cue from the Australians and go for a ruthless approach right from the start? This way, chances of winning increase dramatically!

India are lucky the windies are not full strength because they would have lost the way they are bowling especly bajji.

I agree with this. Also Vaas is coming back for Sri Lanka. And he is a difference maker with bat and ball.

I really hope India can figure out a permanent solutiion to their batting order problems. I dont know what it will be, but maybe a rotation in the opening slot might help.

Just seems like that everytime that we lose the basics are what let us down. I just hope that they can be more consistent and be more positive. Hope they have the midset of making something happen rather than hoping for something to happen.

And I think if Lara was there and Windies changed their batting order with Shiv moved up, then India wud have no chance.

India has bowed well this whole tourney...It's just the part time bowlers that suck right now. Balaji bowled decently last match. But Nehra, Pathan, Zaheer, and Harbajan have bowled quite well. Except for Harbajan this last game....

Full squad or not, India should have no trouble dealing with the West Indies.
I mean they have had 2 very close games agaisnt Sri Lanka (the 2nd best ODI team in the world)

I just wish Sachin was playing...

Time and time again India makes the same mistake. They go for Bhajji (Who they think and hope is in great form) all the time instead of the veteran Kumble. What are they thinking??!?!?!?!?!!!

And I agree. Yuvraj needs to sit out a few games. Maybe then he might improve. And Kumble needs to come in NOW!! He shoulda been in from the 1st match. Chappell seems to be trying new things, but it appears that he has not corrected the old mistake in the National Team. I think he needs to write a list of what all mistakes India has been making over and over again for the past 3 yrs. After that he shoudl factor in the new ODI rules and maybe then we will have a winning formula for the team.

And I would also like to say that I wish Sachin was playing, but all of you tell me, has Sachin really been a factor in the previous 5 ODIs India played? ppl have been focusing so much on Sehwag and Dhoni because sachin has not been consistent since the world cup.

So I dont think we should look at what the team might be like IF Sachin was playing. I think this is what the team needs. They need to win big without their Old time hero. If they cant do that now then there is no hope for the future.

Well I think Chanderpaul came ti this forum cos he opened just like I was sayin!! The wicket of Jayawardene is huge for Windies. Only a miracle can save Sri lanka now.

if west indies win today and beat india they will be in the final with sri lanka
