Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Calling off the tournament would be a knee-jerk reaction. 10 Pakistani players also tested positive but we flew to England and played them.

Pakistan can also afford to call up ten replacement players which I doubt CSK can. :p

Each team has its own SOP along with the one given by BCCI. It depends on how the players follow these SOPs. I read somewhere that RCB, RR and Hyderabad have started their training campaign after a strict 6-7 days of quarantine.

And CSK is one of the teams that didn't kick start their training. 1 player and few of the staff in CSK have tested postive. Since all the teams live in 8 different locations, it is safe for them to follow their own SOPs and even if there is any loophole(like in case of CSK) they could easily find the root cause.

It is certainly the hotel staff that seems to have infected CSK members. Because, players have been monitored from the time they left India till the time they reached UAE and 6 days of quarantine. So it seems to be the hotel where they got infected. If some foreign players flew from their home to UAE directly, that is a different thing altogether. But aren't the players supposed to get tested once they reach UAE?

So close.....

A slightly different case, don't you think so? This involves multiple teams = more players = more staff = higher chances.

I agree though that the tournament will probably be not canceled given that there's still time for the players to recover if I'm not wrong. But one wonders if the current precautions in place did not help in avoiding infection, who is to say it won't happen again and with a larger audience at play?

I've been saying the same so long. You have infections happening all over the world in sports leagues with far more money and with the rumoured increase in cases in UAE (can anyone confirm?), this might get messy if not dealt with properly.

I have a question.

What if this thing happened mid tournament?

What will happen then?

Indian players were tested twice; once at Dubai airport and once before flying to UAE. In fact, this is the UAE's tourism policy that everyone from Pakistan, India etc has to be tested twice; once before boarding the plane to UAE and once after reaching UAE.

The COVID-19 test which produced positive results was the 3rd one for Indian players and the second one for others.

On the other hand SC wants us to give Final year University exams as stated under UGC guidelines. And they have given the cut-off date to be 30th September. What if any of the student get affected ? The basic sense that Indian Government lacks.

Highly unlikely to happen as players would have been tested at least 3/4 times by then. If it did, the tournament most likely gets postponed. Or it would possibly go on with some sort of compensation for the team whose players tested positive, like 2 extra points or something.

Most likely, the tournament would be postponed and many BCCI, hotel staff, or even players, who broke the protocols would be allotted letters of thanks, due to their incompetence which led to many players testing positive.

Schools are opening in entire Pakistan from 15th September as well, given that there are no more spikes in the number of carriers of the pandemic

The place where I stay is getting 10k cases on daily basis. There are so many places around here where there are cases.

The reason must be significant enough for him to miss the entire tournament, especially after his retirement announcement. Hope it's not on the negative side.

Sad to here 12 Support Staff , Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad tested positive for COVID 19.
:(
Hope other players stay safe!
