Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Wonder what's going on with Tewatia, Warner, Khaleel all arguing in different directions.

When you have the opposition at 80-odd for 5 and then go on to lose the match by 5 wickets, that's an indication of great partnership by the batsmen. SRH should have won but were outplayed by two young players.

Not sure if anyone would be agreeing with me but Manish Pandey's innings cost your side today. It's all well and good making a fifty that boosts your stats but that innings would have never been a match-winning one without excellent bowling efforts. He should have definitely added 10-20 runs more with the amount of time he spent there. Williamson at three would have ensured that had happened instead of losing his wicket to Unadkat out of all the people. Can't be relying on your bowling unit to bail the team out everytime especially with the star domestic pacer out of the tournament.

And isn't there a way for RCB to keep ABD off keeper duties? It's likely affecting his batting.
Gurkeerat is neither batting nor bowling. Bring Parthiv in place of Gurkeerat and Ali in place of Finch.

Parthiv
Paddikal
Virat
ABD
Ali
Morris
Dube
Sundar
Udana
Saini
Chahal

Is it just me or does Prithvi Shaw looks a more sober version of young Ravi Shastri?[DOUBLEPOST=1602425193][/DOUBLEPOST]

I agree. Would prefer KW at as well but Laxman and Co seem to think otherwise - perhaps wants to strengthen the middle order.

It's so funny that Cricinfo lists Khaleel as a Left Arm Medium, while he has bowled past 140 kmh today :lol

He's definitely not left arm fast. Probably fast medium.

Regardless of the speed, he's a treacherous bowler and he remind me a lot of a left handed Venky Prasad. Most overseas batters will be queuing up to have a piece of him.

If Williamson is to bat at four, then the top three need to be a lot more aggressive. You're sacrificing a fifth bowler in Nabi for Williamson's batting and yet the way the top three have been batting in the last two games has been very reminiscent of the games where everyone knew that you could dismiss the openers and win on most days. I've previously suggested a NZ top four that had Williamson at four but the key to it was that Seifert, Munro and Guptill would all try to score at a rate that allows a 200 plus total to be achieved on most days. Losing a wicket or two wouldn't matter in that situation as long as you did your job of aggressive scoring as you always had the cushion of a Williamson down at four. It would be similar to England's XI against South Africa in one of the games where they chased down 220 odd with Malan at four whilst the rest of the team was filled with hitters.

I don't think Hyderabad have that luxurious list of hitters which does mean that Williamson has to face the majority of the balls IMO. Nobody would seriously suggest that a Rahul or Kohli bat at four while having a weaker overseas option up before them. In that case, why shouldn't the same logic be applied to a situation in reverse? It is ineffective usage of resources if anyone ever thinks that Pandey can match what Williamson potentially could do if they face the same amount of deliveries consistently. At the moment it feels like Williamson is there as the 'break glass in case of emergency option'. If that is to be the long term plan, why not try to play in that 'high risk, high reward' method so that the glass gets broken more often?

Most bowlers who tend to bowl 140 and plus consistently with the ability to hit close to 150 seem to be called fast these days like Cummins. Khaleel is most definitely capable of that. I think he was thrown onto the international stage too soon just for his variety, there is a half decent bowler in there somewhere if he can get his consistency issues sorted out. Tough to blame him or any of the bowlers today for the loss when the batting could have done more.
