Indian Premier League - General Discussion

I know I'll get abuse for this, but Bairstow is a flat track bully. Get Goswami in, make him open and get Nabi in. The question of Bairstow playing ahead of Williamson ever is an absolute joke!

Pretty unbelievable that Vijay Shankar has failed to kick on from that 2018 season with the Daredevils which still has been his best season IMO.[DOUBLEPOST=1602609728][/DOUBLEPOST]
This might be curtains for SRH...

Quite unbelievable that no sixes have come so far.

EDIT : And of course it is Shankar who hits the first six.

Pretty much the only reason why SRH were in this game is because Williamson came in to bat so early due to the early loss of wickets. The current iteration of Pandey could have never done this. He couldn't take them over the line completely today but it is clear that he needs to be the number three in the games going forward.[DOUBLEPOST=1602610332][/DOUBLEPOST]

I think the current top seven is fine, just needs a repositioning of key personnel.

Thought it was done with Williamson gone. Maybe not just yet..

Rashid is well used to these type of situations. Still feel they've left a bit too much left.

That was a really lovely over from Thakur. Unrecognizable from the bowler struggling with accuracy a year ago.

Yeah, think if Bairstow had faced at least 10-12 more balls it would have been tighter. I'd say Rashid at 7 is one place too high.

And if Manish Pandey hadn't ran himself out. :lol

Really good over from Thakur.

I think Rashid at seven is just about fine. I rate him similar to Tom Curran who usually bats at seven in most T20 franchises, the one aspect that he could improve on is reining in his aggression sometimes. Would have been even better with the batting depth of a Bhuvi in addition to Nadeem to follow but a shame that we never got to see that. Bit surprised that he did not try to slog in the last two balls though, he usually has a lot more power than that.

Curran is a better player. Rashid looks like a good hitter and someone who can go early but I don't think he's got the range of shots.

Don't think Bairstow should be dropped, he's played a couple of good knocks and if SRH removes him, then that's one less power hitter in a lineup where no one is particularly known for their hitting abilities. Pandey has been decent at 3 but he's been playing a tad too slow. With the form Williamson is in, he needs to bat 3. Pandey should be tried at 4/5 IMO. The best knocks that he's played for India in T20I's has been done in the 4/5/6 position. Playing Manish at 5 brings some cushioning to the middle order and might allow Garg to play in a more natural position nearer to the top of the order.

Samad should be backed ahead of Shankar, who's only there for the experience and to be a sixth bowler. Samad has shown a lot more promise than Shankar and needs more consistent game time to get him used to the IPL stage.

I do agree on his style being very agricultural more often than not compared to a more established player like Curran. He does have the ability to hit it across the park though, I've seen him attempt plenty of unorthodox shots that indicates he has far more ability than teams trust him with in addition to his power hitting which is very unusual for a bowler. I saw Adelaide finally trust him with the finisher's role and he gave a couple of very good cameos. The same franchise also has Michael Neser who you would call the better batsman on paper and in terms of skill. In a T20, Rashid Khan IMO has been underutilized as more often than not, a quickfire 18(10) can be very useful from a number seven as long as the batsmen ahead of have built a solid platform. Imagine how good he could be if he's given a proper role with guidance.

Agree with every point in here and I've suggested the same till now. I wouldn't even hesitate having Manish at six as that is when he is most likely to appear with Samad being promoted for a quickfire innings assuming everyone in the top four plays to their potential. Bairstow's also won a game just a couple of games ago, SRH's 2018 side struggled with the lack of a reliable keeper-batsman and Bairstow is on form one of the best white ball cricketers in the world.

They have the problem of needing a Nabi or Holder in the team to balance the late innings batting and reliable bowling. But Warner is captain, Rashid is the star bowler, Bairstow has the best all time IPL average and Williamson is in good form. So any change to the overseas players might balance the side but probably weaken them.

I do think Pandey should be moved to 4 or 5. And they looked a better team with Samad and Abhishek.
