What if that ball had carried?
Would that be out?

Jeez.. not another umpiring controversy. :facepalm

4 games, 2 controversies. We are in for a bumpy ride with this type of umpiring

And there is no way to take a side on this. On one hand, technology has been used for the good, and on the other hand its almost like a bonus review after RR wasted their review in a very poor manner

And then ofcourse, we have the issue of this being an absolute howler

I assume it would have been given that the only reason it went upstairs was due to the ball clearly bouncing.

On the other hand if that had not hit the bat, should they not check for a lbw?

3d umpire must be thanking his stars that it did not copy

Because there was definitely no bat involved

There is a clear decision though, that was not out plain and simple. The only reason to take the side of Chennai would be a potential lbw shout which I think was worth checking too from the third umpire. Surely if you can check the catch, you can check for the lbw.

Agreed pretty much. I really dont understand this rule of only checking for what the umpire is asking or just reviewing his decision. Even on that short run, apparently the rule says that third umpire is not supposed to be called upon for checking short runs - which is nuts

Is that the rule for sure? I remember India playing New Zealand and Trent Boult once called a short run after seeing it on the big screen later and it was reduced to the dismay of Kohli.[DOUBLEPOST=1600790116][/DOUBLEPOST]Ngidi really looks off colour ever since that injury. His speeds have dropped massively and without it he looks really predictable. Looks like batsmen have also realized that he no longer bowls at that pace and are just waiting for the slower ones to appear.

I wanted to see six consecutive sixes. :(

30 of the last over .. never seen Ngidi lose the plot like that. Surely this is RR's game now unless we see a Watson special ?

And what a knock from Samson yet again in IPL. Comparison with Pant will be brought out again for a place in the national squad. Both young, both explosive, both not the best when it comes to keeping and both quite inconsistent. And I think they will both be aware of this unsaid competition between the two

This might be an IPL specific rule :facepalm - will have to check the ICC handbook to see what it says

Third umpire Paul Reiffel didn’t intervene because he does not have the powers to do so. According to the IPL rules, a third umpire is in charge of adjudicating no balls, run-outs and stumpings. In case of reviews, when given out or not out, players take a call on whether they want to challenge an on-field umpire’s decision and go to the third umpire.

The difference is that Pant for the most part has been consistent to semi-consistent in domestic cricket despite his relative struggle internationally in white ball cricket while Samson is just inconsistent. I want Samson to make these scores regularly before he is considered to have a serious shot at the national team.

Rajasthan made the right move to prioritize the powerplay with Uthappa not being sent until they ran out of batsmen. Yet Chennai send in Vijay out of all people when they have Faf, an exciting prospect in Gaikwad who nearly scored a double century for the A team and Sam Curran. This might end up really ugly.

God damn it MSD, just come out and bat will ya
