Indian Tour of Sri Lanka & Triangular Series, July-August 2010

Great!! great innings from Laxman.:clap:clap:clap

Well deserved century for him.On a fifth day pitch against Malinga,Randiv and Mendis is a great task.Raina also played really well, he showed he is the more appropriate test player than Yuvraj.

And India won the match and leveled the series.:clap:clap:clap

We have not gone their with our full strength side and our bowling attack has been anything but an experienced one. Inspite of all this, to go out there and square the series has to rate as a very special win. Our batting has been very impressive as well. Tendulkar looks sublime and solid at the same time these days. He has become like the Wall and Tendulkar of old put together these days. VVS has shown us that he still is the `go to` man when it comes to such crunch situations. Raina has come in at difficult times in all his 3 innings and has shown temperament in all of those knocks. Sehwag has done nothing wrong either. Dravid has been the only one to have struggled but I think we can give him some space with series against Australia and SA coming up.

Coming to our bowling, although they`ve not set the world on fire, they have stuck to their task. We cannot really blame them for the SSC performance as that was a disaster of a test match track. Sharma is getting back to good rhythm as well. Ojha has looked like a wicket-taking option and hopefully it keeps Harbhajan grounded. Mithun has looked honest at best and he should get better with time. Zaheer and Sreesanth getting back will strengthen our bowling and with Gambhir getting back, our batting will also get stronger.

We have now not lost a test series since August 2008. Dhoni`s unbeaten run in test series continues. If we go back to all test match series since the 2007 World Cup, we have only lost 2 series since then. Its not entirely illogical that we are ranked up there in the rankings.

If any NZers aren't watching the rugby/are on PC as well as watching the rugby:

Sri Lanka A are 3 down in their chase of NZ's 276. Oram and Watling scored the runs, while Mills has taken the wickets.

So, our drought in Sri Lanka ends with a stylish victory, eh? Not bad at all. :p Nice going by Laxman, Raina, and Tendulkar as well. We shouldn't have let the Sri Lankans wag their tail yesterday and steer the total to 250+ in the first place, but when you have a bunch of reliable batsmen, there is never much to worry about.

+1

Raina is the guy. Hopefully, his decent performances in Tests will see the door being slammed in the face of Yuvraj Singh who could never really translate his great potential to consistency in the longer format of the game.

Where is the one who posted that,"with this strong batting line up everything under 300 will be easily chased by IND".
I'll tell you that spinning and bouncing 5th day subcontinent pitch has more power in deciding the result than the mighty batting line up.
Hello hello :-p

We have a great batting lineup , and they didn't let me down. Thank goodness for that.

Match winning partnership by Tendulkar and Laxman and Raina and Laxman. Laxman played very great innings in tight situation. I had doubts about Raina before of how he will perform in crucial situation but he has done well and proved he is far better than Yuvraj.

Great win for India. After all, Sachin and Laxman played with their determination and Raina supported them till the end.

Who cares about the India-SL test :P New Zealand are ripping through the Sri Lanka A batting lineup :D

Solid win for India that it must be said, I was really gearing up for watching todays play but my stream cut out five minutes into todays play :( Ah well. I still hold reservations about Raina and whether or not he'll cut it as a test match player but he played well in both test matches so you really can't fault the lad.

Indeed :p Quite a lousy performance this so far from the Sri Lankan A team, much like the Presidents XI on Tuesday.

It's a weak side, even for an A squad. Maybe on another day you could get scores out of Tharaga, Kapugedera or Mendis, but it's hard to imagine that sort of a side ever scoring 250.

I'm over the moon with this victory. Best test match I have seen in a long time. With India letting Mendis get all those runs and then sinking to 53/3 (essentially 4 with Ishant at the crease) I had a sleepless night as I could not believe we had let 6 wickets in the morning session go to waste. But Tendulkar, Laxman, and Raina have saved the day :D.

Raina, what a find. I never thought he was cut out for the 5 day game. But he has shown temperament and skill; that too in trying conditions. All of his innings have shown confidence, elegance, and a sense of belonging to test match cricket. He has a long way to go yet, i'd like to see how he does in England and SA first, but he is definitely better than Yuvraj.

Big props to Abhimanyu Mithun. He stepped up and bowled well, went wicketless, but kept at least some pressure on the Sri Lankan players. He bowls a solid line and length, can take the ball away from the right hander, and shows heart even on placid tracks. I was really impressed by his batting, without his efforts throughout the series we would have lost 2-0. Hope he gets more chances.
