Story India's Journey In International Cricket - vs New Zealand - 2nd Test

It Was A Relief Win For Us - Sachin Tendulkar

It was a relief win for us said Sachin Tendulkar. We have been poor in our last series against Australia and showed we lack some technique. After getting out on 150 odd runs we were not in a good shape and we desperately needed a win. Stephen Fleming is new and he just maintained the right atmosphere which was lacking this last one year. We needed motivation and he just did that.

Sachin also praised the youngsters Virat and Saha. He said "Both of them batted brilliantly in the second innings and without their efforts this win was just not possible. Virat Kohli really has a good future in test's too and Saha could just provide us the stability which we are missing down the order since plenty of time now. :spy"

It will be great to win the next match too and win the series 2-0. It would do a great word of confidence for us and we would be on track for retaining he number one title from England.

INDIA win the toss and elect to BAT first

It was the start of second test between India and New Zealand in this 2 match test series. India are out of a magnificent win in first test and New Zealand wont be too disappointed. Leaving the last innings the whole match was dominated by New Zealand

Ross Taylor before the match said "Well when played like Sachin Tendulakr plays result is forced in other direction. We did not do anything wrong, we dominated the whole match but it wasnt our day that day and we should not feel demotivated. We have talked and are ready to forget the past and give the same tough fight once again."

Virender Sehwag said "Every day and every time we cannot have Tendukar saving us. We played poorly and many need to step up. We have a good bench strength and there is serious competition. Only Kohli and Tendulkar were consistent in the last match and including me no one performed. New Zealand are a strong side and I have said things before we should not take them lightly."

India win the toss and elect to bat first this time. Both the squads are unchanged

2nd Test @ Motera, Ahmadabad

New Zealand Flattened On A Flat Batting Surface

India were batting first on the Motera Stadium of Ahmadabad. Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were for a change able to provide a good opening stand as they both reached their 50 partnership and Sehwag absolutely smashed all Kiwi bowlers out of the stadium.

Gautam Gambhir's poor run of form continued as against the run of play Kyle Mills bowled an absolute ripper of a delivery and cleaned up Gambhir's stump. India lost their first wicket on 62. Cheteshwar Pujara was the new man in and with not good first test would love to play well.

India continued to pile runs on as Sehwag hammering all lose deliveries bowled by Kiwi's for boundaries and Pujara being the perfect partner sensibly rotating the strike. Another partnership which crossed 50 runs and could not go on as Virender Sehwag was caught and bowled by James Franklin on 63 of just 40 deliveries. Not many runs were scored and Pujara's defensive was broken as Mark Gillespie cleaned his stumps and India were now at 121 for 3 with Laxman and Tendulkar on strike.

Lot of pressure on Laxman as he was low on runs and Tendulkar was back from the brilliant match winning 100. Both of them slowly and steadily built a huge century stand as Kiwi's were flattened. India were on 242 when the 120 runs partnership was broken. VVS Laxman was unfortunately run out but would be happy scoring 59 runs and facing 163 deliveries.

Kohli continued his good run of form as he scored 62 before getting out and the late attack by Wriddhiman Saha ensured India scored 456 runs.

That was a true 'Sehwag-ish' knock from Viru. :D
And I'm happy that Saha performed so well. If he continues his good form, I sense a possible end for MSD in the longer format of the game.

Zaheer & Umesh Give India A Upper Hand

After posting a mammoth first innings total of 456 runs, it was New Zealand's turn to bat on the Motera's track which had cracks showing up. New Zealand started off nicely as the openers put up a nice 61 runs partnership. It was Umesh Yadav who picked up the first wicket and Martin Guptill was dismissed for 20 runs. Not much resistance shown from Daniel Flynn as New Zealand lost their second wicked on 87 and skipper Ross Taylor on 89. New Zealand from a good position of 61/0 were 89/3.

Tim McIntosh the surprise pick of this series continued his good form in India as he scored his second fifty in three innings he has played. Mean while constant pressure was build up by Umesh Yadav and Zaheer Khan. Umesh had already picked 3 wickets and Zaheer soon picked his first as a rare loss of concentration by Tim McIntosh helped India break through. Jesse Ryder and James Franklin then built a partnership which looked threatening.

A strong partnership of 62 runs between Frankling and Ryder was broken by Pragyan Ojha whose off spin bowl just picked up from crack and a simple catch at slip was caught by Pujara. Jesse Ryder soon bought up his 50 but none could really bat along as New Zealand were bowled out at 250 runs giving a healthy 206 runs lead to the Indians. Indians surprisingly did not enforce the follow on and decided to bat.

Nice work by Zaheer and Umesh bagging 4 wickets each.

Good update this, but I suggest you to use different pictures. You used the same image of Umesh Yadav in one of the previous updates too and seeing the same images can be a little boring for people who follow the story.

Coming back to the story, I feel that India should have enforced the follow on. Probably Sehwag has other plans. Maybe he wants to come out with full aggression and give the Kiwis an impossible target to chase down and then bundle them out quickly.

Will follow this advice :) Thanks mate :cheers

I like the presentation. It looks neat and easy on the eye. Writing can be improved but, it's alright. Scorecards are a distraction though. :p Maybe simpler ones would do? Just a personal opinion.

And, I like that India haven't enforced a follow on. 206 is not a big lead and I'd think Sehwag wants to come out and rattle the Kiwis. I expect a flying start by the Indian openers.

I know mate, even I am not happy with the scorecards. Have something in mind but for that this series needs to be ended :)
