India's tour of Australia - December/January 2015

Slightly off topic, but another such knock from Vijay + another failure from Dhawane might result in Vijay getting called up for the ODI opener slot in the tri-series. A couple of good showings there and a World Cup call up could be on cards.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Vijay's name in the World Cup squad (the final squad of 15). And nobody can question the selectors for picking Vijay in the WC squad (they can't blame the CSK/Chennai connection, blah blah blah). Due to his starry IPL showings, Vijay has proven that he can be very flamboyant and free flowing. And with his stupendous show in the England tour and this tour, he has shown that he can fight it out there and play long innings.

India need 500 here. But for that, Rahane and Rohit have to absolutely survive the first hour of Day Two. If they can do that, Rahane should get his ton and India should be well set to punish Australia for another day on this pitch. With the bowling attack we have, 500 is definitely required. We lack an extra spinner (we have to make up with the likes of Rohit and Vijay bowling their lollipops) and our fast bowlers will toil on this wicket. Only worry is, Aaron and Yadav should not get injured.

Dhawan might just be on his way out. Similar show of form in England too is not going to help him. Although, KL Rahul is in Australia, I seriously doubt that he is going to get a game. Vijay has been prolific on overseas tours in the previous year. I agree with Sai when he says that Vijay might just make the squad for the World .

On the other hand, I really want to see what Rohit can do now. He has been given a long rope for quite a long time. If I remember correctly, on our previous tour to Australia, MSD had rested a few seniors in order to give Rohit certain games during the tri-series. Yes, he does have 2 double tons to his name, but Test cricket is a different ball game altogether. It remains to be seen if Rohit can repose that faith.

Back to the game, India have started off well. A lot depends upon tomorrow morning's session. A score of 450 will be quite good for India. For the first time in the last 4 years, I can safely say that we have a bowling attack capable of taking 20 wickets. Lets hope for the best.

I'm just going to drop in some statistics:
  • 2015 runs at 29.63 in 42 matches, with two centuries (Aged 23)
  • 1691 runs at 38.43 in 25 matches, with four centuries (Aged 24)
  • 2978 runs at 42.58 in 45 matches, with seven centuries (Aged 25)
  • 9482 runs at 42.90 in 149 matches, with 21 centuries (Aged 35)
  • 13981 runs at 52.16 in 188 matches, with 44 centuries (Aged 37)
All of these are first-class career records of Australian cricketers, but only the first of them is as a Test batsman.

I'm just going to drop in some statistics:

I don't follow the point ? Mitchell Marsh is not worthy ?

Unless I am completely missing the point, you are comparing a young-middle order-batting "allrounder" with old horses like Voges and Hussey, an opener Carters. Don't know much about Burns.

I'm not specifically saying that Marsh is not worthy, just that the numbers dictate that he shouldn't be holding down a top-six place in the Test side, although, in fairness to him, he has made a decent start to his Test career with the bat. If the numbers are to prove to be a fair reflection of his abilities, then Marsh needs to play as an all-rounder and contribute with both bat and ball, something which he patently isn't doing. He's finally taken his first Test wicket in his fourth Test, with what sounded like (although I've only skim-read Cricinfo so I might be wrong) a filthy long-hop, so he's hardly playing as an all-rounder.

Regarding the other batsmen highlighted, I've included each of them for a reason. Firstly, Carters: a young opening batsman, who could theoretically slot in at number three with Watson moving down to number six; not suggesting it's a good idea, just floating it out there. Secondly, Burns: a talented young batsman who is capable of batting anywhere from 1 to 6 and doing a good job. Thirdly, Voges: probably reaching the latter years of his career, but still good enough to be worth a place in the side. Finally, Hussey: never has and never will play a Test match, possibly the best Australian batsman ever not to do so.

There's no specific point to the post, I just raised them all because I found it interesting.

Rohit is still struggling! I don't see how we are going to get 400 runs.[DOUBLEPOST=1418863073][/DOUBLEPOST]
Rohit to get a century today.

Let alone a century, just hope he gets a half century![DOUBLEPOST=1418863181][/DOUBLEPOST]
I don't think the Indian team will be thinking about 500 just yet. Things can change dramatically if we screw up the morning session. Rohit just doesn't instill that confidence in me that he could survive. And Rahane has been a very scratchy starter as has been visible in the 3 innings so far. So fingers crossed for a "safe" morning session :)

Yeah I don't have faith on rohit. I think raina should be given a chance instead of rohit.

WHAT THE HELL, WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE ROHIT JUST SCREW OUR PROGRESS UP? THE GUY JUST DOESN'T HAVE THE ATTITUDE TO LEARN. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MANY CHANCES HE WILL GET.

Terrible morning so far for India. Both Rahane and Rohit go for almost nothing. It would be a miracle if we get to 400 from here. Even 350 looks improbable now. Just hope its because the wicket has got quicker and with more movement off the conditions.

Ashwin and Dhoni are doing really well. Let's hope they carry on. Ashwin's a better batsman than rohit, he times the ball better and his strokes look more elegant and he actually plays sensibly unlike rohit. Rahane played his part but it would have been good had he stayed longer but he got a great delivery.

I dont want to jinx Ashwin (feet on wood), but he is VVS Laxman re-incarnated. What a beautiful test batsman, this guy is!!! Stupendous. If only he can back it up with a good bowling performance, he can be magical for India. The kind of batting Ashwin is displaying is worthy of giving him a proper batting spot in India's test team.

I think you are confusing his test form, for his ODI form. Dhawan's recent ODI form is excellent. Since the Eng ODI series, in 10 matches he averages 60.22 in ODIs, with 1 100 and 4 50s (91 and 97*).

His last three innings are 113, 79 and 91. He is a given for the WC squad, on this form and run. Yes his test run has been avg, but in ODIs he more than holds his place.

It looks like I am not allowed to post good things about Indian batsman here in PC while the game is on. Everytime I do that, the guy I talk about gets himself out. :mad:facepalm:(

Bad luck for Dhoni, but excellent bowling from this debutant, Hazelwood. He looks really good. Hope Aaron and Ishant can swing around and get India past 400 here. Could have been 450+ but India would still take 400. But wonder why Ishant Sharma has not been taking his batting as seriously as he used to before? Yadav comes ahead of Ishant????

All of yesterday's good work undone in one session again.[DOUBLEPOST=1418867557][/DOUBLEPOST]In a small consolation kinda of way, if India get out that little bit before lunch, where the side next has to bat those irritating little number of overs, then that would be ideal.
