India's Tour Of Sri Lanka- August 2015

While bashing Rohit is the 'cool' thing to do, how about we consider that he hasn't got a long run in the side? He's got no continuity, in the sense he's picked for one game and dropped for the next.

I assure you there is nothing 'cool' about bashing a guy who in his last 14 test innings averages 21 with just two 50s. Also what the hell do you mean by picked for one test and dropped for another.

He played all tests on the Tour To SA and NZ. In those 8 consecutive innings he had scores of 14, 6, 0, 25, 71, 19, 0, 31*. Averaging 23 !! What was the team supposed to do not drop him based on this form.

Naturally he was not a regular starter in England. I mean what kind of an idiot would pick him in the side after that run. Anyway somehow things worked out that he again had to be recalled in Aus and he. played the last three tests, and then also the one against B'desh and now SL. So again he has played in 5 consecutive tests. So I dont know what you mean by chopping and changing constantly. He has got plenty of regular runs in the side. What has the 'potential' boy done - 43, 6, 32, 0, 53, 39, 6, 9, 4. An average of 21.

So stop telling me his has not gotten a regular run in the side. He has had plenty of regular runs, with 8 consecutive and then 9 consecutive innings. He has had plenty of chances to prove himself. And you want this guy to get even more chances. :facepalm Why what is so special about him? What great potential do those averages of 23 and 21 seem to be hiding. The guy had more chances than anyone else would have. He has been around for 7 fking years. Enough talk of potential. After 7 years you are judged on performances and not potential, and for Rohit the performances speak for themselves.

It's better to give him chances against sides like Sri Lanka than throw him to the wolves in England/S. Africa/Australia. Perhaps give him 5 more games and then judge.

Also I find this part to be nonsense. So by your own admission the guy cannot perform overseas in tough conditions, and so should be given 'easy' games against SL to cement his place. I mean what kind of an argument is that. If the guy can't take the heat, by your own admission, all the more reason for him to be kicked out of the team at the earliest. This last bit is gutless nonsense of the highest order.

Don't know why Naman Ojha isn't picked. He has performed at a high level in Ranji and for India A, and is superior to Saha from a technique POV.

What an absolutely uninformed post. Who ever told you Ojha was more sound than Saha? They both consistently perform in the domestic circuit. There's not much to choose. If anything, Saha has got more runs when the team has needed it. In fact, on absolute green tops. As far as technique goes, he's far more inept than Ojha is. Not just against pace, but also spin. Saha did pretty okay this game apart from the sitter he dropped. No need to bash someone in such a young career. India should have chased 175. Period.

If anything, there bowlers bowled like sh!t when Chandimal took it to them. Ashwin bowled brilliantly through out the game, but once Chandimal took it to them, he was clueless. He resorted to t20 style bowling and fields. I'm criticizing him because he's someone who can be a true legend because of his attitude, but he seems to really let the pressure get to him.

Also, if you pick people based on IPL performances (Harbhajan Singh) then you're bound to get results like this. The only issue is that a few hundred of us will rant about it on some forum because we give a damn about test cricket but if he can bowl some magical over in an IPL game he will be picked. I have no idea why you wouldn't pick a Rasool who's done better than Harbhajan in the domestic circuit. It's good in a way. Our board is so far up their rear end because of all the money we make that they can't care less.

Really want to see an interview with Ravi Shastri now. He's the worst thing to happen to Indian cricket in terms of coaching.

Alright well lets not forget that Chandimal was clearly lucky to even get to double digits. He was out in a clean manner twice in the single digits. Ashwin had him caught at bat pad and then I think the second way he was out was when the ball ricocheted of Rohit Sharma's shoe and someone caught it. On both occasions the ruling was against India. Whatever happened happened, but I'm just saying that Sri Lanka did get some luck there unfortunately at the wrong time for us. Also, I think Harbhajan needs to be continued with, he will find his bowling once he plays consecutive matches. You can't just have him play a match and then if he only gets a wicket then you drop him? Makes no sense to do that. I mean is Rohit being dropped? No he isn't. Kohli made it clear in his press conference that Rohit will get another shot. I don't really agree with that but it is what it is. I don't understand why he is being chosen over a technically correct Pujara.

Guys on the wrong decision thing ... it was a two way traffic. Yes Chandimal got away, but then again we also had one of their openers caught behind in the first innings, when he had clearly not edged it and it had gone off his arm guard. Then Herath in the second innings was given out caught at slip when again he had not edged it and it had come off his thigh pad or something.

These things happen, usually even out.

The reason we lost was because India played with effectively 10 players, the 11th being Rohit who cant be arsed to score, because one of the selectors or all of them love him. Well okay obviously the batsmen should have gotten 176 and didn't. DRS is being given too much importance here, and is not worth the time that people spend (me including at times) discussing it.

Just score the runs no debate, win, enjoy.

So one of the few batsmen who scored runs has been ruled out of the Test - Dhawan is out. No replacement named for him, so its possible that Vijay is fit.

Rahul gets another lifeline and he really needs to make it count. From Kohli's words it seems like Rohit will continue his run of good fortune in the second test

Not worried about Dhawan's loss as Vijay has had a splendid run in tests in the last year (especially overseas) Hope he is fit enough to play.

Pujara for Harbhajan?

Shastri says, he wants to continue the team to continue its "attacking" mentality. Plus the amount of hooplah made around the 5 bowler strategy means it won't be ditched after one game.

I am guessing, the two changes we will see : Bhuvi or Binny for Bhajan; Vijay for Dhawan.

Stuart Binny is the most hopeless selection possible. He's neither a bowler, nor a batsman. Hell, I didn't even think he warranted a place in the RR XI by the end of the IPL.

I am sorry but Dhoni spent a lot of his career facing charges of favoritism, to the likes of Raina and Jadeja. However I think I am now going to start accusing Kohli of doing just the same.

Why is Rohit still in the team. Are Kohli and Rohit best buds or something. I refuse to believe that anyone in his sane mind would keep playing Rohit over and over again ahead of Pujara. Not only that, the guy is such a coward that he can't even come and play in the position he is picked for. An early wicket and the fker is pushed down the order and Rahane sent ahead. If the team doesn't ahve the confidence to be sent at 3, why is he playing ahead of Pujara.

And Stuart Binny what the fk has the whole management been smoking. I don't care for the result, maybe India will win, perhaps even win by an innings and a gazillion runs, but still this selection is unacceptable. Rohit and Binny are not the future. Especially Rohit, we have wasted enough time on the guy.

For some reason I keep picturing all conversations of Rohit being dropped from the team, between the Team management and Rohit going something like this -
