India's Tour Of Sri Lanka- August 2015

I am not DRS' greatest supporter, atleast till balls crashing into stumps, keep getting ruled n.o. via the Umpire's call route. However yes I do find the new trend of not giving no balls, not so great. I don't blame it on DRS per se, however the trend is definitely not something that is on.

Also I think what BCCI can do, is to have DRS in the traditional sense, but they can let the Umpires voluntarily consult technology in those decisions. In any case BCCI has always been in favor of DRS resting with the Umpires and not the players. So if they do tht it would be consistant with the BCCI stance, and we will all also get to see how it works out.

Does anyone feel that umpiring standards have gotten worse ever since DRS (not criticizing DRS, I support it).

Its almost like the umpires are lazier now - the no-ball thing is prime example of it. We never had umpires double checking for no-balls in the pre-DRS era, did we. Because the umpires were actually looking at the bowler's foot. I think they only way something will be done about this is if one of the big3 lose a final or semi by 1 run in an ICC tournament where a no-ball wasnt called

On top of that, you would think that since they do not pay attention to the no balls anymore, they would atleast have a couple seconds extra to see what happens at the striker's end better. But that is equally bad.

No, the umpiring has gotten slightly better in fact. Not significantly, but slightly. The issue is that there is so much scrutiny these days. NO-ball checks are done so that they get more stuff right at the business end. It's a collective decision made by the ICC. Personally, I've watched cricket for nearly 23 years now and I've not seen an umpire of the calibre of Simon Taufel.

And yet, I have seen a lot more no-balls not being given on regular deliveries (which are not wickets) since this no-ball referral started.

frankly it feels like they are just being lazy since they can rely on technology (one of the biggest negatives of technology in general). The Amit Mishra wicket the other day which was checked for a no-ball - 75% of his foot was behind the line. Was pretty obvious the umpire paid no attention whatsoever to where the front foot landed when the ball was delivered.

yes, obv such decisions could be overturned with drs. but, drs is not there, so it's becoming a lazy (albeit obvious) point to make. we know such decisions can be overturned with drs, but it is not me/you who is in charge of such things. i'm just saying the match could be very different if those 2 decisions (the 1st one was pretty bad, but the 2nd one was an absolute howler) were actually given out.

i have a feeling kohli wants drs too, so hopefully there will be some change on that front.

Then he will stare at the 3rd umpire after he's given out! :D

I have been reading this a lot - Kohli supposedly liking DRS and being expected to stand up for it against the BCCI

Did he say something about this ? or just wishful thinking ?

On the whole no-ball debate I will say that atleast in this particular test, the Umpires were calling no-balls on the spot. Their off-spinner was called for no-ball 5 or 6 times.

Also I just realised how come there is not one SL supporter on this board. Actually if you think abt it, its mostly India, England and Pakistan fans here. Then it really falls down. 4-5 Aussies, 1-2 kiwis, 1-2 SA fans, 1 Zimbabwe fan, thats it. A few B'desh fans, i now recall, 1 WI fan, thats it. I have never seen an SL fan on the board. Weird.

I believe the point is Southfrican fan from South africa

Otherwise I am a saffer fan too

We all like SA, hell I like all good cricketing sides. However the point is that the love I have for the Indian side, being that I am an Indian, is irreplaceable. So I meant an SA fan in the same way I am an Indian fan.

I think for India fans now would be a good time to start panicking :) Though in all fairness had Rohit gotten a score of some sort, I would have panicked a lot more, for all the failures he would have in the next few innings.

As it was so aptly posted above, Rohit is Rohit and Pujara/Rahul are not Rohit. So there could still be reason for us all to have some Rohit panic in the next few tests.

Look, as much I hate the guy, even I am happy to give credit where it is due. For instance I am happy to accept that Rohit deserves his place in the ODI side. He has done well since he started opening.

But why must he get into the test side as well. I get it he had potential, but after 7 long
years of being around, how can a guy be getting into the side on 'potential' and not 'performances'.

I think that playing a large rock ahead of Rohit would not be a bad idea. The ball may end up hitting the rock and deviating for a few runs.
