India Board President's XI v England A - 4 day match - at Bangalore - 1991/2

Pitch:
- 89 - Badly prepared wicket with both umpires and skippers already talking about preparing written complaints that this is offered as a Test match surface.
The pitch is dusty and uneven and must surely help all types of bowler right from the start.
The match will go ahead, but under protest.

Day 1 Starting Pitch: - 7 - Uneven Bounce

Day 1 Weather: - 2 - Hot and Sunny

Toss: England

With the wicket set to heavily favour spin later in the match and 3 spinners in their lineup England A won an important Toss and batted first on a pitch offering Uneven Bounce.
A half century to captain Hugh Morris got the visitors off to a good start and with the top 6 all making starts and Hegg making 42 England A posted a solid first innings score of 271.
Legspinner Sairaj Bahutule was the pick of the bowlers with 4-49 while Venkatesh Prasad bowled accurately and took 2 wickets for the India Board President's XI.
With the weather on Day 2 Hot and Humid and aiding Swing the England A seamers Mark Ilott and David Capel will be in the game when home side begin their reply.

India Board President's XI v England A - 4 day match - Bangalore - 1991/2

In Humid conditions aiding swing the England A opening bowlers Mark Ilott and David Capel ripped through the home side's top order to reduce them to 53/5.
The home side were rescued by a brilliant 155 from VVS Laxman in the first representative game of his career as the India Board President's XI reached 260 all out early on Day 3 to trail by just 11.
Laxman dominated the England A attack hitting 16 fours and 1 six in difficult batting conditions on a pitch still offering Uneven Bounce and received good support from allrounders Kapoor and Bahutule.
The England A spinners had bowled poorly on a pitch not yet Taking Spin, and will be hoping for a better performance in the 2nd innings when things are more in their favour.
Left arm Medium Fast bowler Mark Ilott picked up 5-66 and Capel 3 wickets but England A will begin their 2nd innings with much left to do to win this match.

India Board President's XI v England A - 4 day match - Bangalore - 1991/2

Leading by just 11 after the 1st innings England A lost 4 wickets to the New Ball before the pitch turned nasty after Lunch on Day 3 and started Taking Spin.
Offspinner Ashish Kapoor took 5-28 to finish off the England A side for just 118 with only 4 batsmen in double figures to leave the home side needing 130 to win.
The target leaves England A hoping for a similar collapse from the home side to start their tour with a win.
The poor form of the England A batsmen in this game leaves them looking short of middle order options in their squad, but with Moxon able to bat at Number 3 their may be a reshuffle.

India Board President's XI v England A - 4 day match - Bangalore - 1991/2

The England A spinners put a poor 1st innings performance behind them and took full advantage of a pitch Taking Spin to bundle the home side out for 96 to give the visitors a hard fought 33 run win early on Day 4.
Robert Croft claimed 4-18 and Mike Watkinson 3-16 to hand their side victory and raise morale ahead of what could be a tough tour.
Sairaj Bahutule was the only resistance for the home side as the the England A spinners reeked havok on a very helpful pitch.
The good form of the England A bowlers in this game was a definite plus for the visitors with only legspinner Ian Salisbury failing to impress.
VVS Laxman was named Man of the Match for his brilliant 155 in a losing cause in what was a low scoring match.

England A won by 33 runs

Given the poor form of Salisbury and the longer length of the Tour you can call up left arm spinner Min Patel as 18th player if you like, you might need him on these pitches, especially if a spinner gets injured.

If that's ok then sure. Just didn't have any part-timers in the batting options presented.

You can call up Kim Barnett for experience and his ability to bowl some Leg Spin if you like, he is a decent option for Number 3 as well, he is also an option to open as he did at County level for a long time.
Barnett toured Sri Lanka with England B in 1985/6 and played for England in 1989, also toured South Africa on the Rebel Tour after 89.
Add an extra seamer and take your squad to a round 20 if you like, Domonic Cork is probably a good option, he debuted in ODIs during the 1992 England Home season and toured with England A in 1991/2.
Cork is also handy with the bat.
You might need 20 players for this Tour because there are 6 Unofficial Tests, some India A players will leave before the series ends to play for India in Sharjah.
I will add an extra match before the Unofficial Test series starts so you can give everyone a game.

Do you still want Min Patel to take it to 19?
No thanks. Honestly, if you look at Kim's 1991 CC averages. He bowled 200+ overs at took 20wkts @ less than 25.
If he had been on that initial list. He would have been in the 17.

His bowling card in this game is pretty good, he has some Well Flighted bonuses which make him handy on a flat pitch and has some Turn as well, tends to bowl too many bad balls but might be a wicket taker.

@Welwyn

Breaking News...Kim Barnett called up for England A Tour

After being unlucky to miss the England A probables list, experienced Derbyshire batsman Kim Barnett has been called up late for the England A tour of India by team management.
The selection is as much for Barnett's handy legspin bowling as his batting and he might get plenty of overs on Indian pitches if the main bowlers fail to strike.
Barnett had an excellent County season with bat and ball in 1991 and seems the perfect fit for the conditions.
His baldness equates to vast experience.
