Mafia: Discussion, History and Waiting List Thread

They can if they want but I don't see much point. I was just thinking for newbies, it's more for them to just learn the basics and it doesn't really help people's skills when people start claiming the main characters and after a process of elimination, work out who the mafia is.

Yeah, that is right.

We can have themed games too. That's what I mean when I posted we will go step by step. Like 2-3 basic games and then some small themed games. Then, we can have a bunch of players with some nice skill.

Maybe even having few experienced players will be great for the game. Firstly, it will get the discussion started on day 1 and secondly the members in the mafia team can be helped by those experienced players so this will be a great learning experience for them (newbies). If I run tennis mafia, I wont mind have having some experienced members take part.

I like reading the simple games - like the one User is modding atm. However, I don't think newbies need a game just for themselves. Because in all honesty, mafia is a very easy game to play, and there isn't actually much skill needed. I think most newcomers are overwhelmed, and over-complicate things. All you need to do is read, pick-up on something you think is fishy, point it out, and discuss. That's it.

And you can learn a lot by just reading past games. That's how I learnt, and you pick up a lot of things.

I kind of agree with you but not every newbie is as good as Papa_Smurf. :p There has been cases in the past where newbies have joined a game and later they have either acted very stupidly (which messed up the whole game) or they get frustratingly inactive. The newbie mafia games we're having at the moment, will improve their mafia game tactics, will let everyone know about which member is actually active and interested in these mafia games. :)

My exams are over and I'm free. Spoobir is next to run his mafia game so I was wondering if I can just run this tennis mafia for newbies and maybe some experienced players (if they are interested). Why I'm more interested in running this themed game for newbies is that, it hasn't took place before so we don't know whether this will work or not. Giving it a try wont be a bad idea and the best thing is, while I prepare roles for tennis mafia there really is nothing to be confused about as no one knows which player will have what kind of role.

Yeah, I'll not be running it now for sure. Three games at a time will be stupid. :p

Alright, I'd prepare the roles for the game. I'm planning to have a 8 player game, not too much not too less either just perfect for this kind of a theme where the roles are gonna be confusing, will be damn interesting to guess which players are in the mafia team, believe me. :p I'm hoping for 2 to 3 experienced players getting involved in this. :)

As I won't be taking part in Spoobir's game, I'll make sure I do in yours.

That would be great for the game. Cheers bro! :cheers Colin is taking part as well. That means just one more experienced player needed and then it's all about newbies. :)

I know what you mean about Colin being experienced, but I am curious. He hinted when he joined the LOTR game that he had played elsewhere, but we've heard no more about that. :spy

Count him as newbie, your choice. :p

Yeah, he says he has played elsewhere. But, where? That is yet to be known to us.

I'm not that good. Plus, there have been several players who have good from the word go: Ollie, LongLegs, Abhas, Spoobir, barmyarmy, 6ry4nj, Themer etc...
