Mafia: Discussion, History and Waiting List Thread

Again I have to agree there but the thing is, there are players like me who were not great at this game from the start and if I go back at that time, I would have much preferred to play few games with other newbies and get myself good at this game and then I can play with other experienced players. I mean, anyone can make mistake at this game (like I just made in Video Game Mafia) but it's not about mistakes. It's about learning this game and I think it is much better to have a game with mostly newbies and few experienced players. By this, the newbies wont be lost in the game and can learn from senior players at the same time and then they can play in the game with senior players as well.

There you go Aditya. Making the game seem like some complicated thing which takes years of experience to truly master.

You read. You discuss. You suspect. You lynch.

That's all that the game requires. Sure, you make mistakes. You may bark up the wrong tree. Or, you might finally get that scumbag who's killing everyone. It's all part of the game, and which makes it so much fun.

Exactly. But, the problem is people don't get how to read, discuss, suspect and lynch if they feel they aren't up to a certain level in the game. Take the newbie mafia as an example. They're posting there, lots of it. I can only assume the reason behind it to be as they're all of same level. They have no fear of making some mistake. That's how they learn. Following a game if you're not playing also helps great deal.

What User said and they get lost in a game full of those players who have played this game before. Some members don't even know about the roles, I was one of them. A newbie mafia is just a good stage for newbies to play this game and learn about the roles and all that is required and as User said, learn to read, discuss, suspect and lynch.

That's exactly my point. They themselves don't feel they're that good, and are over-whelmed. But what is there to be overwhelmed about? There's no such thing that a certain discussion is of a higher level than another. Just be confident in yourself, post what you feel is right and wrong, and if you'r e over-confident, persuade others to your way of thinking. The only catch is to use logic and common sense.

As to the technicalities of the game - just read a couple of past games, and the links on the first post of this thread. They explain everything clearly.

I do think some people are a little cruel to the newer players and whoever they perceive to be 'bad'.

Also a lot of this game is down to communication and it's pretty obvious some people are either a bit younger and/or English is not their first language so they struggle to make themselves understood and this in turn brings suspicion on them. It can't be fun when you're forced to claim or are lynched on day one practically every game because someone doesn't like the way you post.

Fixed. ;)

There is no benefit to townies in convincing other townies that they are rubbish players, or that the 'mistake' they just made was huger than it was. This also extends to the coming on once a day to post how "we haven't got anywhere". In a perfect world, all such posts would automatically draw suspicion, as they are transparently anti-town. Unfortunately when I draw up my mental FOS list on this basis, half the players are on it already on Day 1.

I'm also planning on running a Conspiracy 365 mafia game later in the year. It's a book series which doesn't have much information on their site and doesn't even have a wikipedia page so unless you've read the series, a lot of it will be based on gameplay rather than the characters you claimed. And again, mafia will be given fake claims as they can't really research other characters.

Thought of doing a game which focuses more on gameplay than roles and characters. I know Smurf tried one and it flopped, but I'm aiming is a one that'll definetly succeed.

I would rather prefer myself to do that. Although I do like the idea of somebody co-modding with me.

Would anybody want to have a look at the roles?

----------

Forget those roles, anyway will do the game only after Hedger and Aditya's games and in the meantime, I think co-modding with Hedger would be a good idea. What do you say Hedger?

Sorry, but I prefer modding by myself. Means I actually have to do stuff. I co-modded the Simpsons Mafia game but apart from doing the roles, I barely did anything in game and MaD pretty much done it all. However if you want, you can have a look over me and learn, check my roles and I'll explain the balance of the game a bit, then I'll do all the writeups and go over them a bit with you. If you do that, then you'll likely learn a bit and then you can decide if you want to mod a game or not.

And atm, I'm reading through the whole series again to get all the characters :p I read 4 yesterday so another 8 to go and then I'll read the new book that I got yesterday :p
